Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common dementia,is characterized by potentially neurotoxic aggregation of Aβ peptide and tau protein,and their deposition as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs).Tau aggregation also occurs in other common neurodegenerative *** dementia(FTD)can be caused by tau mutations that increase the susceptibility of tau to hyperphosphorylation and aggregation,which may cause neuronal dysfunction and deposition of NFTs.17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin(17-AAG)is a potent inhibitor of heat shock protein 90(Hsp90),a cytosolic chaperone implicated in the proper folding and functions of a repertoire of client proteins.17-AAG binds to Hsp90 and enhances degradation of Hsp90 client *** sought to determine whether 17-AAG can reduce Aβ and tau pathology in the brains of AD and FTD model mice expressing Aβ or P301L mutant tau,*** were randomized to receive 25,5,or 0 mg/kg 17-AAG thrice weekly from age eight to 11 *** was performed by rotarod test on motor function,on the area occupied by plaques in hippocampus or NFTs in medulla tissue sections,and on mortality.A high dose of 17-AAG tended to decrease NFTs in male mice(p=0.08).Further studies are required to confirm the effect of 17-AAG in diseases of tau aggregation.

BACKGROUND Although important for determining long-term outcome, pathologic stage of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is difficult to predict before surgery. Current state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using gadoxetic acid provides many imaging features that could potentially be used to classify single HCC as pT1 or pT2. AIM To determine which gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI (EOB-MRI) findings predict pathologic stage T2 in patients with solitary HCC (cT1). METhoDS Pre-operative EOB-MRI findings were reviewed in a retrospective cohort of patients with solitary HCC. The following imaging features were examined: Hyperintensity in unenhanced T2-weighted images, hypointensity in unenhanced T1-weighted images, arterial enhancement, corona enhancement, washout appearance, capsular appearance, hypointensity in the tumor tissue during the hepatobiliary (HB) phase, peritumoral hypointensity in the HB phase, hypointense rim in the HB phase, intratumoral fat, hyperintensity on diffusionweighted imaging, hypointensity on apparent diffusion coefficient map, mosaic appearance, nodule-in-nodule appearance, and the margin (smooth or irregular). Surgical pathology was used as the reference method for tumor staging. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify predictors of microvascular invasion or satellite nodules. RESULTS There were 39 (34.2%;39 of 114) and 75 (65.8%;75 of 114) pathological stage T2 and T1 HCCs, respectively. Large tumor size (≥ 2.3 cm) and two MRI findings, i.e., corona enhancement [odds ratio = 2.67;95% confidence interval: 1.101-6.480] and peritumoral hypointensity in HB phase images (odds ratio = 2.203;95% confidence interval: 0.961-5.049) were associated with high risk of pT2 HCC. The positive likelihood ratio was 6.25 (95% confidence interval: 1.788-21.845), and sensitivity of EOB-MRI for detecting pT2 HCC was 86.2% when two or three of these MRI features were present. Background Heart failure （HF） is a physically and socially debilitating disease that carries the burden of hospital re-admission and mortality. As an aging society, hong Kong urgently needs to find ways to reduce the hospital readmission of HF patients. This study evaluates the effects of a nurse-led HF clinic on the hospital readmission and mortality rates among older HF patients in hong Kong. Methods This study is a retrospective data analysis that compares HF patient in a nurse-led HF clinic in hong Kong compared with HF patients who did not attend the clinic. The nurses of this clinic provide education on lifestyle modification and symptom monitoring, as well as titrate the medications and measure biochemical markers by following established protocols. This analysis used the socio-demographic and clinical data of HF patients who were aged 〉 65 years old and stayed in the clinic over a six-month period. Results The data of a total of 78 HF patients were included in this data analysis. The mean age of the patients was 77.38 ± 6.80 years. Approximately half of the HF patients were male （51.3%）, almost half were smokers （46.2%）, and the majority received 〈 six years of formal education. Most of the HF patients （87.2%） belonged to classes II and III of the New York Heart Association Functional Classification, with a mean ejection fraction of 47.15± 20.31 mL. The HF patients who attended the clinic （n = 38, 75.13 ± 5.89 years） were significantly younger than those who did not attend the clinic （n = 40, 79.53 ± 6.96 years）（P = 0.04）, and had lower recorded blood pressure. No other statistically significant difference existed between the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the two groups. The HF patients who did not attend the nurse-led HF clinic demonstrated a significantly higher risk of hospital readmission [odd ratio （OR）： 7.40; P 〈 0.01] than those who attended after adjusting for the effect of age and blood pressure. 本文从一名内部人士的视角来说明在香港参与补习的生活经历,分别以学生、补习导师和研究人员的角色,对影子教育普遍存在的几个问题给予分析并获得启示。本文采用自传式叙事研究方法,数据来源于作者的事件回忆录,受启发于自身作为学员和导师时使用的教材、自己的视频录课,以及研究项目的反思日记。基于作者在补习行业扮演不同角色的叙述,本文讨论了几个主要问题,包括(1)影子教育对主流教育积极和消极影响的反思,(2)缺乏对补习教师和广告质量的严格规范,(3)影子教育如何加剧教育不平等以及一些补习机构和非营利组织如何解决这一问题。就作者所知,本文是唯一一篇从作者自身作为学生、导师和研究人员的个人经历来讨论影子教育问题的文章,它从内部人士视角阐述了香港补习行业的实践和政策发展。

Fulminant ulcerative colitis associated with steroid-resistant minimal change disease and psoriasis: A case report

Photocatalytic disinfection has been well-studied for water treatment. however, the post-separation of photocatalyst remains a major challenge for practical application. This study developed a novel method for photocatalytic disinfection, which used a "partition system" to retain the photocatalyst. Cadmium indium sulfate （CdIn 2 S 4 ） coupled with regenerated cellulose membrane gave the best performance. 4 log-reduction of a Gram-negative bacterium, Escherichia coli, and 5 log-reduction of a Gram-positive bacterium, Microbacterium Barkeri, （initial cell density 2×10 5 cells/mL） were achieved within 4 and 6 h, respectively. Scavenger study revealed that H 2 O 2 is the major reactive species for bacterial inactivation in the "partition system". The study provides an alternative cost-effective method for the application of photocatalysis in water disinfection.

A 43-year-old Chinese patient with a history of psoriasis developed fulminant ulcerative colitis after immunosuppressive therapy for steroid-resistant minimal change disease was stopped. Minimal change disease in association with inflammatory bowel disease is a rare condition. We here report a case showing an association between ulcerative colitis, minimal change disease, and psoriasis. The possible pathological link between 3 diseases is discussed.

Background:Currently,surgical resection is the mainstay for colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)management and the only potentially curative treatment *** tools can support patient selection for surgical resection to maximize therapeutic *** study aimed to develop a survival prediction model using machine learning based on a multicenter patient sample in hong ***:Patients who underwent hepatectomy for CRLM between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2018 in four hospitals in hong Kong were included in the *** analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards(CPH).A stepwise selection on Cox multivariable models with Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator(LASSO)regression was applied to a multiply-imputed dataset to build a prediction *** model was validated in the validation set,and its performance was compared with that of Fong Clinical Risk Score(CRS)using concordance ***:A total of 572 patients were included with a median follow-up of 3.6 *** full models for overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)consist of the same 8 established and novel variables,namely colorectal cancer nodal stage,CRLM neoadjuvant treatment,Charlson Comorbidity Score,pre-hepatectomy bilirubin and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)levels,CRLM largest tumor diameter,extrahepatic metastasis detected on positron emission-tomography(PET)-scan as well as KRAS *** CRLM Machine-learning Algorithm Prognostication model(CMAP)demonstrated better ability to predict OS(C-index=0.651),compared with the Fong CRS for 1-year(C-index=0.571)and 5-year OS(C-index=0.574).It also achieved a C-index of 0.651 for ***:We present a promising machine learning algorithm to individualize prognostications for patients following resection of CRLM with good discriminative ability.
