Potent antioxidant peptides derived from honey major protein enhance tolerance of eukaryotic cells toward oxidative stress

Honey is known for its medicinal benefits and receiving renewed attention as natural *** on health benefits of honey attributed its antioxidant activity to phenolic compounds,but the contribution of proteins and peptides to the antioxidant activity of honey is *** aim of this study was to explore the contribution of proteins and peptides to the antioxidant activity of honey,which remained obscure for *** honey proteins(THP)were isolated by dialysis method and hydrolyzed through simulated gastrointestinal *** hydrolysates were fractionated using size-exclusion *** antioxidant activity was determined by using superoxide radical-scavenging,DPPH reduction and intracellular ROS *** was shown to exhibit superoxide-scavenging activity but its pepsin-hydrolysate(HP-p)showed superior scavenging *** HP-p produced five peptide fractions(P1~P5)when fractionated on Sephacryl S-100 size-exclusion *** five fractions showed superoxide-scavenging activities and DPPH reducing activities,whereas the slow-eluting peptide fractions(P3 and P4)were the most ***-TOF/MS analysis identified a pentapeptide(TSNTF)as the dominant peptide in the active fractions P3 and *** colonic epithelial cells treated with P3 and P4 peptides exhibited lower intracellular ROS,when oxidative stress was induced by H2O2 or diethyl maleate(DEM),indicating strong tolerance to oxidative *** viabilities of human cells or yeast cells were largely decreases under oxidative stress,but treated cells with P3 and P4 showed higher viability compared with the untreated *** results are the first to describe a novel antioxidant peptide from honey that confer ex vivo anti-oxidative function within a complicated milieu of eukaryotic cells and pave the way for its potential as nutraceutical or therapeutic peptide for risk-reduction of oxidative-stress and related diseases.

Potential antioxidant bioactive peptides from camel milk proteins

Camel milk is traditionally considered to have medicinal characteristics that it has potential health benefits and could help to treat several illnesses. Particularly, it is closest to human breast milk and has high levels of nutrients and bioactive components. The aim of this study was to explore the antioxidant peptides derived from protein fractions of camel milk. Camel milk proteins(CMP) were fractionated into camel casein protein(CCP) and camel whey protein(CWP), which were hydrolyzed with pepsin to produce peptic digests P-CCP and P-CWP, respectively. RP-HPLC was used for fractionation of the peptides from the P-CCP and P-CWP. The antioxidant activities were evaluated using superoxide anion generating system of xanthine oxidase(XOD)and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) scavenging assay. Active peptides were analyzed using matrixassisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS) whereas a number of antioxidant peptides, with masses ranging from 913 to 2,951 Da, derived mainly from alpha-casein, lactophorin and lactoferrin, were identified. When yeast cells are used as a system for modeling mitochondrial disease, the peptides in caseins and whey fractions significantly enhanced the tolerance of yeast cells against peroxide-induced oxidative stress. The results show that both caseins and whey proteins of camel milk possess bioactive peptides with significant radical-scavenging activities and thus herald a fascinating opportunity for their potential as nutraceuticals or therapeutic peptides for prevention and treatment of oxidative stress-associated diseases.

Experimental investigation of the influence of carbonated water on sandstone and carbonate rock properties

Laboratory measurements using nuclear magnetic resonance,scanning electron microscopy,and gas porosity and permeability analysis were conducted to acquire a petrophysical interpretation of the Carbon Tan Sandstone and Savonnieres Carbonate for potential carbon dioxide storage in subsurface *** relationships between pore structures,such as pore-size distribution,pore geometry,and porosity/permeability,were investigated near and far from the *** operating pressures of 2500psi(17.24 MPa)and temperatures of 176F(50℃),carbonated water was injected into a composite core constructed of two similar core samples bounded by a compact disc located between *** current results showed that a strong calcite dissolution took place near the injection position of both rock samples and led to improvements in the primary intergranular permeability and porosity,while the carbonate sample showed significant improvement compared to *** durable heterogeneous dissolution of calcite grains also led to the creation of new pores as intra-granular *** at deeper depths from the injection position,it noticed an insignificant development in pore structure and its populations as well as rock hydraulic properties of both rock *** conclusion,the study revealed that the injected carbonated brine had a valuable impact on fluid-formation interactive,which improved rock's inlet properties compared with outlet.

Assessing roles of geochemical reactions on CO_(2)plume,injectivity and residual trapping

With increasing CO_(2)concentration in the atmosphere,CO_(2)geo-aequestration has become a popular technique to counter the dangers of global warming resulting from high levels of CO_(2)in the *** paper examins sequestration parameters such as CO_(2)plume behaviour,residual gas trapping and injectivity as a means of achieving safe and successful CO_(2)storage in saline *** precipitation/dissolution rates are used to establish a relationship between these parameters and geochemical reactions in saline *** achieve this,mechanistic models(6 models with different inputs,created using CMG e GEM,2016 and WINPROP,2016)are simulated using input data from literature and studying changes in fluids and formation properties as well as mineral precipitation/dissolution rates in aquifers when subjected to different conditions in the different *** results from the models show that high CO_(2)dissolution,which creates large CO_(2)plume,leads to high mineral dissolution/precipitation as results of increased fluid-rock interactions(geochemical reactions);whereas injectivity,although enhanced by CO_(2)-water cyclic injection,does not show much increase in bottom hole pressure when mineral trapping(thus geochemical reactions)is introduced into the *** study on residual gas trapping shows that high residual gas saturation leads to reduced mineral precipitation/dissolution due to the reduced amount of dissolved CO_(2)in ***,rapid changes in the bottom hole pressure at high residual gas saturation means that a formation that fosters high residual gas trapping,rather than CO_(2)dissolution in brine,is more likely to experience injectivity issues during the sequestration process.

Cardiac involvement in disseminated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma,successful management with chemotherapy dose reduction guided by cardiac imaging: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Secondary cardiac involvement by lymphoma has received limited attention in the medical literature, despite its grave prognosis. Although chemotherapy improves patients' survival, a subgroup of treated patients dies suddenly due to myocardial rupture following chemotherapy initiation. Reducing the initial chemotherapy dose with dose escalation to standard doses may be effective in minimizing this risk but the data are limited. We report on the successful management of a patient with disseminated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL) involving the heart using such *** SUMMARY An 18-year-old male presented to our hospital with six months history of progressive dyspnea, orthopnea and cough. On physical examination, the patient was found to have a plethoric and mildly edematous face, fixed elevation of the right internal jugular vein, suggestive of superior vena cava obstruction, and a pelvic mass. Investigations during admission including a thoracoabdominal computed tomography(CT) scan with CT guided biopsy of the pelvic mass,echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging led to the diagnosis of disseminated DLBCL with cardiac involvement. The patients were successfully treated with chemotherapy dose reduction followed by dose escalation to standard doses, under the guidance of cardiac imaging. The patient completed chemotherapy and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant. He is currently in remission and has a normal left ventricular *** Imaging-guided chemotherapy dosing may minimize the risk of myocardial rupture in cardiac lymphoma. Data are limited. Management should be individualized.

Selective androgen receptor modulators(SARMs)are a class of nonsteroidal drugs that are favored over anabolic androgenic steroids(AASs)for their tissue-selectivity and improved side-effect *** drugs have been evaluated for treatment of various diseases including muscle-wasting disorders,osteoporosis,and breast *** lacking approval for therapeutic use,SARMs are widely used recreationally as performance enhancing drugs by bodybuilders and *** recent years,cases of drug-induced liver injury(DILI)secondary to SARMs have begun to emerge,but little is known regarding their *** this review,we provide current knowledge regarding DILI from SARMs.A literature search was conducted regarding SARMs and liver injury to evaluate relevant cases and *** have been associated with a cholestatic syndrome congruent with that of DILI from AASs,and it consists of a bland cholestasis in which there is minimal bile duct injury,inflammation,or *** present with an insidious onset of jaundice with marked hyperbilirubinemia and mild hepatic enzyme *** clear treatment exists,although patients typically show improvement with cessation of the offending *** the novelty of these drugs,further study is necessary to understand diagnosis,management,and complications of SARM-related DILI.

Integrated Mineral Analysis of sandstone and dolomite formations using different chelating agents during matrix acidizing

Mineral analysis plays a major role in the successful matrix acidizing as it shows the change in physiochemical changes in the formation due to the reaction with fluids *** of the reservoir can be altered by injecting mineral acids during matrix *** various complications are connected during the application of these acids such as environmental hazards,corrosion of pipes and tubings,precipitation of fluosilicates and fast spending of *** mitigate these problems,chelating agents have been applied as an alternative by different *** this study,three different chelating agents EDTA,GLDA and HEDTA were applied to stimulate sandstone and dolomite *** pH value of these chelates ranges from 1.7 to 3 and is measured before and after core flooding to observe physiochemical *** flooding experiments under 180F temperature were performed at a constant flow rate of 1 ml/min on core samples having dimensions(3 inch1.5 inch).Porosity,permeability,Inductively Coupled Plasma(ICP),and TESCAN Integrated Mineral Analysis(TIMA)were employed to measure changes in formation properties such as morphology,topology and *** reacted sample of acids was analyzed for sodium,potassium,calcium,aluminium,magnesium,and iron using the ICP technique to find the capability of these chelates to remove positive *** found to be effective in chelating iron,calcium and magnesium and it also removed some amount of aluminium ions from the sandstone *** and porosity analysis concluded that HEDTA is more efficient in creating new big pore *** analysis confirms that HEDTA is effective in dissolving quartz and other positive ions while dissolved a large amount of calcium and sodium from the sandstone as compared to other *** analysis also concluded that HEDTA is effective in increasing porosity of sandstone formation while GLDA is effective in dolomites.

Modeling interaction between CO_(2),brine and chalk reservoir rock including temperature effect on petrophysical properties

Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))capture and sequestration through CO_(2)enhanced oil recovery(EOR)in oil reservoirs is one of the approaches considered to reduce CO_(2)emission into the *** injection of CO_(2)into a subsurface geological formation may lead to chemical reactions that may affect the formation pore structure and *** this study,the effect of CO_(2)ebrineerock interaction on the rock petrophysical properties and mineral volume fraction was numerically investigated during CO_(2)injection into a chalk reservoir rock.A 3D numerical modeling and simulation were conducted using COMSOL®Multiphysics commercial software of computational fluid dynamics(CFD)to simulate CO_(2)ebrine core flooding process in a chalk *** model was validated against a coreescale experimental data from *** differential pressure data matched the literature experimental data closely and consistently indicating good agreement between *** effect on the performance of CO_(2)ebrineechalk sequestration was also evaluated in the present *** indicated that porosity was only slightly affected by temperature increase during CO_(2)injection in contrast to permeability that was substantially affected by ***,chemical reactions enhanced as temperature increased leading to significant increase in ***,carbonated brine sequestration excelled at elevated temperature due to increased acidity which governs the sequestration *** developed model maybe considered as a reliable tool to optimize various operating parameters of CO_(2)ebrine sequestration.

The Schrodinger equation defines the dynamics of quantum particles which has been an area of unabated interest in *** demonstrate how simple transformations of the Schrodinger equation leads to a coupled linear system,whereby each diagonal block is a high frequency Helmholtz *** on this model,we derive indefinite Helmholtz model problems with strongly varying *** employ the iterative approach for their *** particular,we develop a preconditioner that has its spectrum restricted to a quadrant(of the complex plane)thereby making it easily invertible by multigrid methods with standard *** multigrid preconditioner is used in conjunction with suitable Krylov-subspace methods for solving the indefinite Helmholtz model *** aim of this study is to report the feasibility of this preconditioner for the model *** compare this idea with the other prevalent preconditioning ideas,and discuss its *** of numerical experiments are presented,which complement the proposed ideas,and show that this preconditioner may be used in an automatic setting.
