We examined the degradation of dibromophenols （DBPs）, i.e. 2,4-DBP, 2,6-DBP and 3,5-DBP by ultraviolet （UV） irradiation and estimated the relationship between degradability and molecular orbital properties of each dibromopbenol. The removal of DBPs under a UV lamp system was successfully performed in an aqueous solution. After 5 min of irradiation, the initial DBPs concentration of 20 mg/L was decreased to below 1 mg/L, and about 60% of bromide ion was released. A decrease in the concentration of dissolved organic carbon （DOC） suggested the mineralization of DBPs, The mineralization may occur after release of bromide ions because the decrease of DOC was slower than the release of bromide ions. The degradability of 3,5-DBP was slightly lower than 2,6-DBP and 2,4-DBE Molecular orbital calculation suggested that the electrophilic frontier density and the highest occupied molecular orbital （HOMO） energy may be related to the degradability of DBPs.

We explored the possibilities of whole-genome duplication （WGD） in prokaryotic species, where we performed statistical analyses of the configurations of the central angles between homologous tandem repeats （TRs） on the circular chromosomes. At first, we detected TRs on their chromosomes and identified equivalent tandem repeat pairs （ETRPs）; here, an ETRP is defined as a pair of tandem repeats sequentially similar to each other. Then we carried out statistical analyses of the central angle distributions of the detected ETRPs on each circular chromosome by way of comparisons between the detected distributions and those generated by null models. In the analyses, we estimated a P value by a simulation using the Kullback-Leibler divergence as a distance measure between two distributions. As a result, the central angle distributions for 8 out of the 203 prokaryotic species showed statistically significant deviations （P〈0.05）. In particular, we found out the characteristic feature of one round of WGD in Photorhabdus luminescens genome and that of two rounds of WGD in Escherichia coli K12.

The existence of excess sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)molecules in a single-walled carbon nanotube(SWNT)solution dispersed by hybridization with SDS leads to unstable atomic force microscopy(AfM)*** this study,we demonstrate sequential dialysis against pure water in order to remove excess SDS molecules from an SDS-SWNT hybrid dispersion.A 1:102 volume ratio of SDS-SWNT dispersion to water in the dialysis was found to be effective in realizing stable AfM observations of the SDS-SWNT hybrids despite imperfect filtering of SDS via *** the other hand,the SDS-SWNT hybrids were stable even when this volume ratio was 1:***,the SDS-SWNT hybrids were present in the solution even when the dialyzed samples were stored for 14 *** results reveal that dialysis under optimal conditions enables improved handling of SDS-SWNT hybrids,particularly for stable AfM observations.

L1_(0)-ordered feNi alloy with a high uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and large magnetic moment is a promising candidate for rare-earth-free permanent magnets ***,the synthesis of this chemically ordered phase remains a longstanding challenge because of its low chemical order-disorder transition temperature(200-320℃).Although a non-equilibrium synthetic route based on a nitrogen topotactic reaction has been proposed as a valid approach,the volume fraction and degree of chemical ordering of the product phase are ***,we propose a promising approach that promotes the efficient formation of L1_(0)-ordered nitride phase in feNi nanopowders by introducing a quenching treatment during a low-oxygen induction thermal plasma *** quenched feNi nanopowders possessed much smaller powder sizes(40.4 vs 74.0 nm),exhibited higher number densities of nanotwins(39.8%vs 24.1%)and formed much larger volume fraction(33.6 wt.%vs 0.6 wt.%)of ordered phase than the unquenched ***,quenching-induced high-density nanotwins led to the dominant coverage of serrated{001}crystal facets over the surfaces of the feNi *** unique features substantially accelerated the formation of the L1_(0)-ordered nitride phase in the feNi nanopowders because the{001}crystallographic orientation had the highest nitrogen *** work provides not only a valid synthetic approach for mass production of the L10-ordered nitride phase in feNi nanopowders but also novel insights into the crystal-defect-assisted nitridation of nanomaterials.

A case of a 53-year-old female patient with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia （RLH）, clinically designated as pseudolymphoma of the liver is described in this article. The patient was admitted to our hospital for further evaluation of hepatic tumors incidentally discovered at another hospital. Various diagnostic methods, including ultrasonography （US）, computerized tomography （CT）, magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） and hepatic angiography displayed three small lesions in the liver with outstanding findings consistent with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. Surgical resection was performed and the three lesions were microscopically diagnosed as RLH of the liver. The lesions comprised a massive infiltration of lymphoid cells with follicles and hyalinized inter- follicular spaces. Immunohistochemical examination revealed that infiltrating lymphocytes had no prominent nuclear atypia and polyclonality. RLH of the liver is a very rare condition and only twelve cases have been reported in the English literature. Majority of the reported cases were middle-aged women and about half of them had some immunologic abnormalities such as autoimmune thyroiditis, Sjogren＇s syndrome, primary immunodeficiency, primary biliary cirrhosis. Since they are olden clinically misdiagnosed as HCC, surgery is the choice of treatment for these patients. Although their pathology resembles malignant lymphoma, the clinical course is completely benign. The authors propose that RLH of the liver can be discriminated from HCC by its clinical features.

from the viewpoints of environmental protection, support for the aged and ensuring the right to mobility, there is a need to develop a new type of mobility vehicle that provides more effective transportation. The authors propose an inverted pendulum vehicle with pedals as one of the forms of personal mobility vehicles （PMVs）. In this paper, the steering performance of the inverted pendulum vehicle with pedals is discussed based on experiments on a prototype. from the experimental results, it was confirmed that the errors from the five subjects for the target trajectory and the five-grade evaluation of the maneuverability were similar. finally, we created an inverted pendulum vehicle with pedals to which was added a reaction actuator for the steering system. from the experimental results, it was found that setting appropriate feedback gains for the handle steering angle and its rate of rotation, which control the right and left wheel driving torques, resulted in greatly improved maneuverability. Case of colonic intussusception secondary to mobile cecum syndrome repaired by laparoscopic cecopexy using a barbed wound suture device

A 27-year-old man with recurrent right lower quadrant pain was admitted to our hospital. Ultrasonography and computed tomography examination of the abdomen revealed a target sign in the ascending colon, which was compatible with the diagnosis of cecal intussusception. The intussusception was spontaneously resolved at that time, but it relapsed 6 mo later. The patient underwent a successful colonoscopic disinvagination; there was no evidence of neoplastic or inflammatory lesions in the colon and terminal ileum. The patient underwent laparoscopic surgery for recurring cecal intussusception. During laparoscopy, we observed an unfixed cecum on the posterior peritoneum(i.e. a mobile cecum). Thus, we performed laparoscopic appendectomy and cecopexy with a lateral peritoneal flap using a barbed wound suture device. The patient's post-operative course was uneventful, and he continued to do well without recurrence at 10 mo after surgery. Laparoscopic cecopexy using a barbed wound suture device is a simple and reliable procedure that can be the treatment of choice for recurrent cecal intussusception associated with a mobile cecum.
