Phase separation and coarsening of NiAl(β′)intermetallic in quench-aged Fe-Ni-Al alloys

The coarsening behavior of four quench-aged Fe-Ni-AI alloys with different Ni and Al con tents is *** alloys were solubilized at 1100℃for 24 h,water-quenched and aged at 850℃for periods ranging from 1 to 100 h to promote phase separation and *** two alloys with the highest combined Ni and Al contents(>35 at.%)showed signs of spinodal decomposition,while the alloys with lower Ni and Al contents followed a classical nucleation *** Ni and Al contents promoted an increase in NiAl(β′)phase fraction in concordance with phase equilibrium *** alloy with the highest[3'fraction presented a completely interconnected *** coarsening ofβ′particles in the other three alloys followed the predictions of the Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner(LSW)*** general trend was an increase in the coarsening k.netics with higher Ni and Al *** highest hardness was found in the alloys with higher fraction albeit these compositions are less resistant to coarsening and have been reported to present a low room-temperature ductility.

AIM: To investigate visceral fat accumulation in association with the risk.of small bowel ***: We retrospectively investigated 198 consecutive patients who underwent both capsule endoscopy and CT for investigation of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(OGIB) from January 2009 to September 2013. Despite the recent development in radiometric dating of numerous zircons by LA-ICPMS, mineral separation still remains a major obstacle, particularly in the search for the oldest material on Earth. To improve the efficiency in zircon separation by an order of magnitude, we have designed/developed a new machine-an automatic zircon separator（AZS）. This is designed particularly for automatic pick.up of100 μm-sized zircon grains out of a heavy mineral fraction after conventional separation procedures. The AZS operates in three modes：（1） image processing to choose targeted individual zircon grains out of all heavy minerals spread on a tray,（2） automatic capturing of the individual zircon grains with microtweezers, and（3） placing them one-by-one in a coordinated alignment on a receiving tray. The automatic capturing was designed/created for continuous mineral selecting without human presence for many hours. This software also enables the registration of each separated zircon grain for dating, by recording digital photo-image, optical（color） indices, and coordinates on a receiving tray. We developed two new approaches for the dating; i.e.（1） direct dating of zircons selected by LA-ICPMS without conventional resin-mounting/polishing,（2） high speed U-Pb dating, combined with conventional sample preparation procedures using the new equipment with multiple-ion counting detectors（LA-MIC-ICPMS）.With the first approach, Pb-Pb ages obtained from the surface of a mineral were crosscheck.d with the interior of the same grain after resin-mounting/polishing. With the second approach, the amount of time required for dating one zircon grain is ca. 20 s, and a sample throughput of 〉150 grains per hour can be achieved with sufficient precision（ca. 0.5%）.We tested the practical efficiency of the AZS, by analyzing an Archean Jack.Hills conglomerate in Western Australia with the k.own oldest（〉4.3 Ga） zircon on Earth. Two-Phase Flow Regimes and Discharge Characteristics of a Plasma Electrohydrodynamic Atomization

Experimental investigation was conducted to study the flow regimes and discharge characteristics of plasma electrohydrodynamic atomization （EHDA） for decane （CloH22） under pulsed applied negative voltage. The experimental parameters were set as the flow rate of decane from 0 mL/min to 10 mL/min and the DC charging voltage from DC 0 V to 12 V with a pulse repetition rates of 200 Hz. The flow regime of decane was observed and the volume-to-electrical charge ratio was measured. Unlik. a conventional EHDA system, the results show that a corona discharge was initiated at the edge of the hollow electrode at a specific corona on-set voltage of -17 k. or -20 k. in the case with or without decane flow, respectively. This phenomenon was defined as plasma EHDA.

On Switching of a Flip-Flop Jet Nozzle with Double Ports by Single-Port Control

This research deals with the oscillation mechanism of a flip-flop jet nozzle with a connecting tube, based on the measurements of pressures and velocities in the connecting tube and inside the nozzle. The measurements are carried out varying: 1) the inside diameter d of the connecting tube;2) the length L of the connecting tube and 3) the jet velocity VPN from a primary-nozzle exit. We assume that the jet switches when a time integral reaches a certain value. At first, as the time integral, we introduce the accumulated flow work.of pressure, namely, the time integral of mass flux through a connecting tube into the jet-reattaching wall from the opposite jet-un-reattaching wall. Under the assumption, the trace of pressure difference between both the ends of the connecting tube is simply modeled on the basis of measurements, and the flow velocity in the connecting tube is computed as incompressible flow. Second, in order to discuss the physics of the accumulated flow work.further, we conduct another experiment in single-port control where the inflow from the control port on the jet-reattaching wall is forcibly controlled and the other control port on the opposite jet-un-reattaching wall is sealed, instead of the experiment in regular jet’s oscillation using the ordinary nozzle with two control ports in connection. As a result, it is found that the accumulated flow work.is adequate to determine the dominant jet- oscillation frequency. In the experiment in single-port control, the accumulated flow work.of the inflow until the jet’s switching well agrees with that in regular jet’s oscillation using the ordinary nozzle.

Pancreatic cancer continues to be a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide and there is an urgent need to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to reduce the mortality of patients with this disease. In pancreatic cancer, some tight junction proteins, including claudins, are abnormally regulated and therefore are promising molecular targets for diagnosis, prognosis and therapy. Claudin-4 and-18 are overexpressed in human pancreatic cancer and its precursor lesions. Claudin-4 is a high affinity receptor of Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin(CPE). The cytotoxic effects of CPE and monoclonal antibodies against claudin-4 are useful as novel therapeutic tools for pancreatic cancer. Claudin-18 could be a putative mark.r and therapeutic target with prognostic implications for patients with pancreatic cancer. Claudin-1,-7, tricellulin and marvelD3 are involved in epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT) of pancreatic cancer cells and thus might be useful as biomark.rs during disease. Protein k.nase C is closely related to EMT of pancreatic cancer and regulates tight junctions of normal human pancreatic duct epithelial cells and the cancer cells. This review focuses on the regulation of tight junctions via protein k.nase C during EMT in human pancreatic cancer for the purpose of developing new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for pancreatic cancer.

As-cast Hk.0 steel was aged at 700, 800, or 900℃ for times as long as 2000 h. Microstructural characterization showed that the primary M_7C_3 carbide network.contained a substantial content of manganese, in agreement with the microsegregation of manganese calculated by Thermo-Calc using the Scheil–Gulliver module. The dissolution of primary carbides caused the solute supersaturation of austenite and subsequent precipitation of fine M_(23)C_6 carbides in the austenite matrix for aged specimens. During prolonged aging, the carbide size increased with increasing time because of the coarsening process. A time–temperature–precipitation diagram for M_(23)C_6 carbides was calculated using the Thermo-CalcPRISMA software; this diagram showed good agreement with the experimental growth k.netics of precipitation. The fine carbide precipitation caused an increase in hardness; however, the coarsening process of carbides promoted a decrease in hardness. Nanoindentation tests of the austenite matrix indicated an increase in ductility with increasing aging time.
