Medicinal plants have played an important role in treating and preventing a variety of diseases throughout the world. Metabolic syndrome had become a global epidemic, defined as a cluster of three of five criteria： insulin resistance and glucose intolerance, abdominal obesity, hypertension, low high-density cholesterol, and hypertriglyeeridemia. The current review fo- cuses on Indian medicinal plant drugs and plants used in the treatment of diabetes and hyperlipidemia. Though there are various approaches to reduce the ill-effects of diabetes and hyperlipidemia and its secondary complications, plant-based drugs are preferred due to lesser side effects and low cost. The current review focuses on twenty-three medicinal plants used in the treatment of Diabe- tes mellitus and nine medicinal plants used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. The wealth of knowledge on medicinal plants points to a great potential for research and the discovery of new drugs to fight diseases, including diabetes and hyperlipidemia.

The fruit of Manilkara hexandra(Roxb.)Dubard is one of the most underutilized fruits of India and in Gujarat *** is popularly known as‘Rayan’.The fruit and seed of Rayan were analysed for their total phenolic and flavonoid content,phenolic compounds and total antioxidant capacity with six different assay *** results indicated that the methanolic extract of Rayan fruit being a good source of phenolic(811.3 mg GAE/100 g fw)and flavonoid(485.56 mg RE/100 g fw)***,eleven known phenolic compounds were tentatively identified for the first time from the fruit and seed of *** LC–MS/MS analysis of fruit revealed the presence of major phenolic compounds such as gallic acid,quercetin and kaempferol,while quercetin,gallic acid and vanillic acid in *** presence of quercetin suggests health *** fruit of Rayan was also proved to be a better source of antioxidants as measured by FRAP,RPA,DPPhRSA,ABTSRSA and hRSA except NORSA in comparison with that of *** current study explains that *** is a relatively good source of antioxidants such as phenols and flavonoids for diet.

Development of novel materials with desirable properties remains at the forefront of modern scientific *** learning(ML),a branch of artificial intelligence,has recently emerged as a powerful technology in optoelectronic devices for the prediction of various properties and rational design of *** halide perovskites(MhPs)have been at the centre of attraction owing to their outstanding photophysical properties and rapid development in solar cell ***,the application of ML in the field of MhPs is also getting much attention to optimize the fabrication process and reduce the cost of ***,we comprehensively reviewed different applications of ML in the designing of both MhP absorber layers as well as complete perovskite solar cells(PSCs).At the end,the challenges of ML along with the possible future direction of research are *** believe that this review becomes an indispensable roadmap for optimizing materials composition and predicting design strategies in the field of perovskite technology in the future.

The hydrogenolysis of carbon–oxygen bonds is an important model reaction in upgrading biomass‐derived furanic compounds to transportation *** of these model reactions,namelyconversion of5‐hydroxymethylfurfural(hMF)to the gasoline additive2,5‐dimethylfuran(DMF),isespecially *** this study,bimetallic Cu‐Co catalysts supported on CeO2,ZrO2,and Al2O3were used for the selective hydrogenolysis of hMF to *** structures of the fresh and usedcatalysts were studied using X‐ray diffraction,the Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller method,transmissionelectron microscopy,temperature‐programmed reduction by h2,temperature‐programmed desorptionof Nh3,and ChNS *** structures were correlated with the catalytic ***‐Co/CeO2catalyst produced mainly2,5‐bis(hydroxymethyl)furan via reduction of C=O bonds onlarge Cu *** Cu‐Co/Al2O3catalyst gave the best selectivity for DMF,as a result of a combinationof highly dispersed Cu,mixed copper–cobalt oxides,and suitable weak acidic ***‐Co/ZrO2had low selectivity for DMF and produced a combination of variousover‐hydrogenolysis products,including2,5‐dimethyltetrahydrofuran and5,5‐oxybis(methylene)‐bis(2‐methylfuran),because of the presence of strong acidic *** reaction pathways and effectsof various operating parameters,namely temperature,h2pressure,and time,were studied to enableoptimization of the selective conversion of hMF to DMF over the Cu‐Co/Al2O3catalyst.

Introduction: Thumb carpometacarpal joint arthritis can cause significant pain and limitation in activity. Patients who are unable to obtain symptomatic relief from anti-inflammatories, splinting, and cortisone injections may be indicated for surgical treatment. The earliest form of surgical intervention was trapeziectomy alone;since, numerous adjunctive procedures have evolved. In this study, we conduct a literature review comparing outcomes of simple trapeziectomy to other interventions for thumb carpometacarpal arthritis. Methods: A literature search using the PubMed/Medline database was conducted. Inclusion criteria were the following: 1) the study was a primary study written in English, 2) treatment options were surgical and compared trapeziectomy with other forms of surgical treatment for thumb carpometacarpal arthritis, 3) the study was a randomized controlled trial, 4) the study included outcomes such as pain, physical function, range of motion, and/or strength. Included studies were then compiled into a table for further review. Results: 11 studies met inclusion criteria. All studies were randomized controlled trials and demonstrated level II evidence. Surgical procedures in these studies included ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI), flexor carpi radialis suspension, carpometacarpal joint denervation, and carpometacarpal joint arthroplasty. No significant differences were found between trapeziectomy alone versus adjunctive surgical procedures when comparing patient-reported outcomes, patient satisfaction, range of motion, grip strength, and key/tip pinch strength with follow-up ranging from 1 year to 18 years post-operative. Discussion/Conclusions: In our review of the evidence, we find no significant differences in patient-reported outcomes, patient satisfaction, range of motion, grip strength, and key/tip pinch strength both in the short- and long-term post-operative periods. Esophageal diverticula are rare findings that have an estimated incidence of 1 per 500000 people per year,even though acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a relatively common medical emergency with an incidence of up to 150 per 100000 people per year and a mortality rate of 7-14%.An 83-year-old man presented with hematemesis and *** upper endoscopy revealed an esophageal diverticulum,within which was an adherent *** of the clot identified a bleeding vessel within the diverticulum;this was successfully clipped and hemostasis was *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first case report of a bleeding epiphrenic esophageal diverticulum that was successfully managed endoscopically with hemostatic clips *** rare,our case serves as a reminder that bleeding epiphrenic esophageal diverticula can present as massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding and urgent endoscopic therapy can be life-saving.

Intermittent androgen deprivation therapy （IADT） is an alternative to continuous androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） in prostate cancer patients with nonmetastatic disease. ADT is associated with numerous side effects such as hot flashes, sexual dysfunction, anemia, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome and premature cardiovascular disease. IADT was developed with the intention of improving the quality of life and to delay progression of prostate cancer to castration resistance. The benefits of slightly improved quality of life by IADT compared to ADT were demonstrated in multiple clinical trials. IADT was noted to be noninferior to ADT in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer but in studies performed in patients with metastatic prostate cancer, the results were inconclusive. Our recent studies suggested that the administration of 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors during the off-cycle of IADT can significantly prolong the survival of mice bearing androgen-sensitive prostate tumors when off-cycle duration was short. This review discusses the survival benefit of 5 alpha-reductase inhibition in IADT in animal models and the potential translation of this finding into clinic.
