The use of insect meal in aquafeed formulations has recently gained *** knowledge about the inclusion levels for pikeperch(Sander lucioperca),a promising candidate for intensive aquaculture in Europe remains,however,*** the present study,4 isoproteic(45%dry matter)and isoenergetic(21 MJ/kg)diets were formulated,including a control diet(H0)containing 30%fishmeal(FM)on an as-fed basis and the other 3 diets in which FM protein was replaced by defatted black soldier fly(Hemetia illucens)meal(HIM)at 25%,50%,and 100%(diet abbreviation H9,H18 and H36,corresponding to an inclusion level of 9%,18%and 36%,respectively).The feeding trial was performed in triplicate groups of 50 juvenile pikeperch(mean weight,68.7 g)fed with experimental diets for 84 d during which the growth performance,nutrient digestibility,fillet quality and economic and environmental sustainability of rearing pikeperch were *** findings indicated that pikeperch in H0,H9,and H18 groups displayed better results regarding growth performance indices,except for survival rate where no significant difference among groups was recorded(P?0.642).A significantly lower organ-somatic index,including hepatosomatic,viscerosomatic and perivisceral fat index,was found in fish in H18 groups than other groups(Pd the digestibility of the nutrients and resulted in an almost linear reduction in the apparent digestibility coefficient of dry matter and *** the fillet quality,dietary HIM negatively affected the protein and ash contents of the fish fillets,while the crude fat remained *** HIM did not significantly modify total saturated,monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in the fillets of fed pikeperch(P>0.05)but did reduce total n-3 fatty acids(P?0.001)and increased total n-6(Pduced the environmental impacts associated with fish in-to-fish out ratio but entailed heavy burdens on e

Application of interface material and effects of oxygen gradient on the performance of single-chamber sediment microbial fuel cells(SSMFCs)

Single-chamber sediment microbial fuel cells(SSMFCs) have received considerable attention nowadays because of their unique dual-functionality of power generation and enhancement of wastewater treatment performance. Thus, scaling up or upgrading SSMFCs for enhanced and efficient performance is a highly crucial task. Therefore, in order to achieve this goal, an innovative physical technique of using interface layers with four different pore sizes embedded in the middle of SSMFCs was utilized in this *** results showed that the performance of SSMFCs employing an interface layer was improved regardless of the pore size of the interface material, compared to those without such layers. The use of an interface layer resulted in a positive and significant effect on the performance of SSMFCs because of the effective prevention of oxygen diffusion from the cathode to the anode. Nevertheless, when a smaller pore size interface was utilized, better power performance and COd degradation were observed. A maximum power density of 0.032 mW/m^2 and COd degradation of 47.3% were obtained in the case of an interface pore size of 0.28 μm. The findings in this study are of significance to promote the future practical application of SSMFCs in wastewater treatment plants.

In this study, two "quarter-size" mini-cyclones were developed to remove particles larger than 1.0 and 0.3 μm under a very low flow rate of 0.3 lpm, and two small impactors were also developed to remove particles larger than 0.3 μm at a low flow rate of 0.3 lpm. They are ideal devices to adapt to current instruments to prevent particle contamination/interference or work independently as a personal sampler. The geometric configuration of the mini-cyclones is referring to the Extra-Sharp-Cut cyclone (ESCC) series [1]. However, the mini-cyclones were newly designed to reach the cutoff sizes (d50) of 1.0 and 0.3 micro-meter under 0.3 lpm, and the empirical equation provided by Kenny and Gussman cannot be used for predicting the d50 of these mini-cyclones. The nozzle dimensions of the small impactors are referring to the seventh stage of the Microorifice Uniform deposit Impactor [2]. The performances of the mini-cyclones and the small impactor were evaluated in terms of penetration and pressure drop. To acquire the penetration curve and determine d50, the upstream and downstream particle distributions of the mini-cyclone and the small impactor were measured by Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS, TSI Inc., Model 3096) and Aerodynamic Particle Sizer (APS, TSI Inc., Model 3321). For mini-cyclone performance evaluation, four different flow rates, i.e., 0.3, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 lpm were tested. In general, the d50 decreases with increasing the aerosol flow rate. On the other hand, the pressure drops of both mini-cyclones and small impactors increase with the flow rate in a quadratic form. The performance of mini-cyclones was also compared with that of existing personal sampling cyclones. Further, empirical models to estimate the performance of the prototype mini-cyclones (i.e., the 50% cutoff particle size and pressure drop) were also established.

Aphthona whitfieldi Bryant (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is a major insect pest of Jatropha curcas L. (Euphorbiacae) in Burkina Faso and other countries in West Africa. The insect pest feeds on the roots and the leaves of the plant. When the attacks are heavy, the plant may lose all its leaves and die off. Unfortunately, little information is available on the biology of this insect pest. A study was conducted on the biology of this insect pest in the Sissili province, South Burkina Faso and resulted in the knowledge of some of the biological features of the insect pest. Aphthona whitfieldi was reared from 13th July to 22th October 2015. Larvae and pupae were collected in J. curcas plantations near Léo, the capital city of the Sissili province, and brought to the laboratory for rearing. The insects were observed daily and the dimensions and the duration of each stage were recorded. We recorded two larval stages (1st and 3rd): a pre-pupa and a pupal stage. The pupa was free and white milk-like. Both the pre-pupa and the pupal stages lasted for five days. The 1st instar larva was smaller than the third one.

Refined Agent Model Using Shape-Based Grained Structure: Application to Membrane Molecules

Multi-agent model is well-known to suit design of complex systems. This paradigm allows describing autonomous entities to interact together directly or through their environment. It is specially adapted to design 3d simulations taking into account spatial constraints on agents. In this work, we have designed a multi-agent model which adds a feature to the classical representation of agent: a body, encapsulating a physical model of the agent. We have applied this model to lipids and proteins belonging to the inner mitochondrial membrane, a biological membrane. Information provided by atomic structures is available through international d.tabases and has been used to design a shape-based grain model for the agent body. We selected a model with three grains per molecule in which each grain is characterized by a type determining how they interact together and consequently the agent behaviors. Lipids and two kinds of protein structures have been described within this model allowing us to simulate their organization in membranes.

Candidate Eclipsing Binary Systems with a δ Scuti Star in Northern TESS Field

The existence of pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries has been known for decades. These types of objects are extremely valuable systems for astronomical studies as they exhibit both eclipse and pulsation variations. The eclipsing binaries are the only way to directly measure the mass and radius of stars with a good accuracy(≤1%),while the pulsations are a unique way to probe the stellar interior via oscillation frequencies. There are different types of pulsating stars existing in eclipsing binaries. One of them is the δ Scuti variables. Currently, the known number of δ Scuti stars in eclipsing binaries is around 90 according to the latest catalog of these variables. An increasing number of these kinds of variables is important to understand the stellar structure, evolution and the effect of binarity on the pulsations. Therefore, in this study, we focus on discovering new eclipsing binaries with δ Scuti component(s). We searched within the northern Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS) field with a visual inspection by following some criteria such as light curve shape, the existence of pulsation like variations in the out-of-eclipse light curve and the Teffvalues of the targets. As a result of these criteria, we discovered some targets. The orbital variations were first removed from the TESS light curves and frequency analysis was performed on the residuals. The luminosity, and absolute and bolometric magnitudes of the targets were calculated as well. To find how much of these parameters represent the primary(more luminous) binary component, we also computed the flux density ratio of the systems by utilizing the area of the eclipses. In addition, the positions of the systems in the H-R diagram were examined considering the flux density ratios. As a consequence of the investigation, we defined 38 candidate δ Scuti stars and also one Maia variable in eclipsing binary systems.
