Ultrahigh-speed distributed Brillouin reflectometry

Optical fibre sensors based on Brillouin scattering have been vigorously studied in the context of structural health monitoring on account of their capacity for distributed strain and temperature ***,real-time distributed strain measurement has been achieved only for two-end-access systems;such systems reduce the degree of freedom in embedding the sensors into structures,and furthermore render the measurement no longer feasible when extremely high loss or breakage occurs at a point along the sensing ***,we demonstrate real-time distributed measurement with an intrinsically one-end-access reflectometry configuration by using a correlation-domain *** this method,the Brillouin gain spectrum is obtained at high speed using a voltage-controlled oscillator,and the Brillouin frequency shift is converted into a phase delay of a synchronous sinusoidal waveform;the phase delay is subsequently converted into a voltage,which can be directly *** a single-point measurement is performed at an arbitrary position,a strain sampling rate of up to 100 kHz is experimentally verified by detecting locally applied dynamic strain at 1 *** distributed measurements are performed at 100 points with 10 times averaging,a repetition rate of 100 Hz is verified by tracking a mechanical wave propagating along the *** drawbacks of this ultrahigh-speed configuration,including the reduced measurement accuracy,lowered spatial resolution and limited strain dynamic range,are also discussed.

Sequence Validation Based Extraction of Named High Cardinality Entities

One of the most useful Information Extraction (IE) solutions to Web information harnessing is Named Entity Recognition (NER). Hand-coded rule methods are still the best performers. These methods and statistical methods exploit Natural Language Processing (NLP) features and characteristics (e.g. Capitalization) to extract Named Entities (NE) like personal and company names. For entities with multiple sub-entities of higher cardinality (e.g. linux command, citation) and which are non-speech, these systems fail to deliver efficiently. Promising Machine Learning (ML) methods would require large amounts of training examples which are impossible to manually produce. We call these entities Named High Cardinality Entities (NHCEs). We propose a sequence validation based approach for the extraction and validation of NHCEs. In the approach, sub-entities of NHCE candidates are statistically and structurally characterized during top-down annotation process and guided to transformation into either value types (v-type) or user-defined types (u-type) using a ML model. Treated as sequences of sub-entities, NHCE candidates with transformed sub-entities are then validated (and subsequently labeled) using a series of validation operators. We present a case study to demonstrate the approach and show how it helps to bridge the gap between IE and Intelligent Systems (IS) through the use of transformed sub-entities in supervised learning.

由于土壤与大气之间的能量和水分交换主要发生在界面层,因此在研究地气相互作用时,浅层土壤的冻融状况尤为重要.根据中日国际合作项目CEOP/CAMP-Tibet的观测结果分析发现,就青藏高原中部那曲附近而言,表层土壤真正冻结的日数较少(1个月左右).而存在日冻融循环过程的日数则较多(6个月左右).土壤冻融状态的频繁变化,会极大地影响土壤和大气之间的水分和能量的交换过程.指出土壤在不同状态(完全消融、完全冻结和存在日冻融循环)下,土壤与大气之间的相互作用过程是个值得深入研究的问题.

The elderly people are prone to be affected by quality of life (QOL) by nocturia becoming the multiple times. A purpose of this study was to determine it about a factor associated with the night urination. This survey was conducted in 2015 as a cross-sectional study. Anonymous, self-administered questionnaires were used to prevent individuals from being identified. The analysis subjects were 699 elderly people with the nocturia which belonged to club of the aged 65 years or older. Those with nocturia were placed in the Nocturia-1 group if they reported experiencing nocturia once per night or in the Nocturia- ≥ 2 group if they reported experiencing nocturia two or more times per night. We analyzed the relationships between the characteristics, lower urinary tract symptoms, and opportunities to go outdoors in the Nocturia-1 and Nocturia- ≥ 2 groups based on sex using the χ2 test. In addition, to investigate the factors that influence the change from nocturia once per night to two or more times per night, we performed logistic regression analysis using the χ2 test on the characteristics and lower urinary tract symptoms that showed significant differences separately for men and women. Among the men, factors with a significant positive relation-ship were age, diabetes mellitus, lower back pain, daytime frequency, and urinary urgency. Among the women, factors with a significant positive relationship were age, requiring support 1-requiring long-term care 2, urinary urgency, and feeling of incomplete emptying. It was suggested that the life of elderly people improved by nocturia not increasing.

Oncologic impact of colonic stents for obstructive left-sided colon cancer

Colonic stenting has had a significant positive impact on the management of obstructive left-sided colon cancer(OLCC) in terms of both palliative treatment and bridge-to-surgery(BTS). Notably, many studies have convincingly demonstrated the effectiveness of stenting as a BTS, resulting in improvements in shortterm outcomes and quality of life, safety, and efficacy in subsequent curative surgery, and increased cost-effectiveness, whereas the safety of chemotherapy after stenting and the long-term outcomes of stenting as a BTS are controversial. Several studies have suggested an increased risk of perforation in patients receiving bevacizumab chemotherapy after colonic stenting. In addition, several pathological analyses have suggested a negative oncological impact of colonic stenting. In contrast, many recent studies have demonstrated that colonic stenting for OLCC does not negatively impact the safety of chemotherapy or long-term oncological outcomes. The updated version of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guidelines released in 2020 included colonic stenting as a BTS for OLCC as a recommended treatment. It should be noted that the experience of endoscopists is involved in determining technical and clinical success rates and possibly oncological outcomes. This review discusses the positive and negative impacts of colonic stenting on OLCC treatment, particularly in terms of oncology.

Integrating Psychiatric Services into Comprehensive Dementia Care in the Community

Purpose: This study was conducted to clarify the utility of patient-held records as an integrated care approach for patients with dementia in the community. Method: We analyzed the family-held/patient-held records of patients with dementia in the community. The inclusion criteria in the study were as follows: 1) patient-held/family member-held records of patients with dementia in the community;2) patient-held records designed to share information across different professionals, direct-care staff members, and local government staff;and 3) the continuous participation of psychiatrists in the development and use of the patient-held records. Results: We identified eight sets of family-held/patient-held records in Japanese communities of various sizes, all of which were aimed at integrating information from various services, including information provided by medical and psychiatric professionals to the family and patient. Innovative tools have been available in the areas of the hopes and preferences of the patient, medication and monitoring, sharing information, and the use of information technology. Conclusion and Discussion: Family-held/patient-held records have potential as a tool to enhance the integrated care of people with dementia in the community.

Relationship between Voided Urine Volume and Urinary ATP in Healthy Volunteers

Purpose: We examined the relationship between the urinary ATP level and the desire to void, voided urine volume, and urinary osmotic pressure. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 4 healthy volunteers (2 men and 2 women) without micturition disorders who were not taking any medications and had normal urinalysis findings. Over 2 - 3 days, they urinated into a clean cup a total of 20 times. The strength of the desire to void was classified (none, slight, moderate, or strong;scored from 1 to 4, respectively) and a voiding score was assigned at each urination, along with measurement of the voided volume, urinary ATP, urinary creatinine, and urinary osmotic pressure (one man). Results: Variation of the urinary ATP/creatinine ratio was large in both male and female subjects. The urinary ATP/creatinine ratio was lower in the 2 men compared with the 2 women. This ratio showed a significant negative correlation (R2 = 0.1577 and 0.1673, both p < 0.05) with the voided urine volume in the male subjects. However, there was no relationship between the urinary ATP/creatinine ratio and the voiding score or voided urine volume in the female subjects. Conclusions: The urinary ATP level may not be a clinically useful marker of bladder pathology. Both the present study and our previous studies identified a large sex difference in the urinary ATP/creatinine ratio, and this finding may be important when considering the causes of overactive bladder (OAB) in women. The mechanism underlying the increase in urinary ATP in women should be investigated to develop new therapies for OAB.

Oxidative coupling polymerization of p-alkoxyphenols with Mn(acac)2-ethylenediamine catalysts

The oxidative coupling polymerization of p alkoxyphenols with Mn(acac)2ethylenediamine catalysts was carried out. The polymerization of pmethoxyphenol with the manganese(II) acetylacetonate [Mn(acac)2]N,N’diethylethylene diamine catalyst in CH2Cl2 at room temperature under an O2 atmosphere afforded a polymer, which mainly consists of the mphenylene unit, whereas the polymer obtained with Mn(acac)2 was rich in the oxyphenylene structure. The polymer yield and regioselectivity were significantly affected by the monomer and catalyst structures. The former catalyst system was also used for the coupling reaction of 2methoxy 4methylphenol. The corresponding carboncar bon coupling product was isolated with a regioselectivity of 95%.

Minute liver metastases from a rectal carcinoid: A case report and review

We here report a 43-year-old male patient with minute liver metastases from a rectal *** nodules were diagnosed during surgery,although they were not diagnosed by preoperative computed tomography or ultrasound *** rectal carcinoid was resected together with liver metastases and the patient has had no disease recurrence for 5 years following postoperative treatment of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC) using 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)and oral administration of 1-hexylcarbamoyl-5-fluorouracil(HCFU).In 2003,a health check examination indicated presence of occult blood in his *** enema study revealed a rectal tumor in the lower rectum and colonoscopy showed a yellowish lesion with a size of 30 mm in *** examination of the biopsy specimen indicated that the rectal tumor was *** preoperative imaging examinations failed to detect liver metastases,2 min nodules were found on the surface of liver during surgery.A rapid pathological examination revealed that they were metastatic tumors from the rectal *** anterior resection was performed for the rectal tumor and the pathological report indicated that there were 4 metastatic lymph nodes in the rectal *** patient received treatment by HAIC using 5-FU plus oral administration of HCFU and survived for 5 *** also review world-wide current treatments and their efficacy for hepatic metastases of carcinoid tumors.
