Excessive predation pressure from the waterfowl Phalacrocorax carbo(Great Cormorant)on Plecoglossus altivelis(Ayu)has recently been a severe problem of river environment in *** fishery cooperatives are currently suffering from economic difficulties due to decrease of the fish catch of *** fishery cooperatives and municipalities have been enthusiastically trying to develop countermeasures that can effectively reduce the predation pressure;however,their effectiveness and efficiency have not been systematically quantified *** aim can be achieved with the help of an appropriate mathematical *** this paper,based on a pure death process,a practical stochastic control model for population dynamics of released *** in river environment under predation pressure from ***,harvesting by human,and environmental fluctuations is *** an optimal management strategy ultimately reduces to solving a 2D Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation,which is performed with a finite element *** application to a Japanese river environment successfully computes the optimal management strategy that is consistent with the *** sensitivity analysis of the presented mathematical model is also performed for comprehension of dependence of the optimal strategy on the model parameters.

Study of visualized simulation and analysis of nuclear fuel cycle system based on multilevel flow model

Complex energy and environment system, especially nuclear fuel cycle system recently raised socialconcerns about the issues of economic competitiveness, environmental effect and nuclear proliferation. Only underthe condition that those conflicting issues are gotten a consensus between stakeholders with different knowledgebackground, can nuclear power industry be continuingly developed. In this paper, a new analysis platform has beendeveloped to help stakeholders to recognize and analyze various socio-technical issues in the nuclear fuel cycle systembased on the functional modeling method named Multilevel Flow Models (MFM) according to the cognition theoryof human being. Its character is that MFM models define a set of mass, energy and information flow structures onmultiple levels of abstraction to describe the functional structure of a process system and its graphical symbol representationand the means-end and part-whole hierarchical flow structure to make the represented process easy to beunderstood. Based upon this methodology, a micro-process and a macro-process of nuclear fuel cycle system wereselected to be simulated and some analysis processes such as economics analysis, environmental analysis and energybalance analysis related to those flows were also integrated to help stakeholders to understand the process of decision-making with the introduction of some new functions for the improved Multilevel Flow Models Studio, and finallythe simple simulation such as spent fuel management process simulation and money flow of nuclear fuel cycleand its levelised cost analysis will be represented as feasible examples.

Three-Dimensional Leaf Edge Reconstruction Combining Two-and Three-Dimensional Approaches

Leaves,crucial for plant physiology,exhibit various morphological traits that meet diverse functional *** leaf morphology quantification,largely 2-dimensional(2D),has not fully captured the 3-dimensional(3D)aspects of leaf *** improvements in 3D data acquisition,accurately depicting leaf morphologies,particularly at the edges,is *** study proposes a method for 3D leaf edge reconstruction,combining 2D image segmentation with curve-based 3D *** deep-learning-based instance segmentation for 2D edge detection,structure from motion for estimation of camera positions and orientations,leaf correspondence identification for matching leaves among images,and curve-based 3D reconstruction for estimating 3D curve fragments,the method assembles 3D curve fragments into a leaf edge model through B-spline curve *** method's performances were evaluated on both virtual and actual leaves,and the results indicated that small leaves and high camera noise pose greater challenges to *** developed guidelines for setting a reliability threshold for curve fragments,considering factors occlusion,leaf size,the number of images,and camera error;the number of images had a lesser impact on this threshold compared to *** method was effective for lobed leaves and leaves with fewer than 4 ***,challenges still existed when dealing with morphologies exhibiting highly local variations,such as *** nondestructive approach to 3D leaf edge reconstruction marks an advancement in the quantitative analysis of plant *** is a promising way to capture whole-plant architecture by combining 2D and 3D phenotyping approaches adapted to the target anatomical structures.

Effects of slab geometry and obliquity on the interplate thermal regime associated with the subduction of three-dimensionally curved oceanic plates

We investigated the relationships among slab geometry, obliquity, and the thermal regime associated with the subduction of oceanic plates using a three-dimensional （3D） parallelepiped thermal convection model. Various models with convex and concave slab shapes were constructed in the numerical simu- lation, and the temperature and mantle flow distributions were calculated. The results revealed that when the slab dip angle increases, or the obliquity of subduction becomes steeper, the interplate tem- perature decreases remarkably. Cooler （warmer） zones on the plate interface were identified from the modeling where there was a larger （smaller） subduction angle. Consequently, the interplate temperature distribution is partly controlled by the true subduction angle （TSA）, which is a function of the slab dip angle and the obliquity of subduction. The rate of change of the interface temperature for the TSA was 10-50 ℃ （10°〈 TSA 〈 20°） at depths ranging from （TSA 10） × 5 km to 60 ＋（TSA 10） × 5 km for a fiat slab after a subduction history of 7 Myrs. The along-arc slab curvature affects the variation in TSA. The slab radius also appeared to influence the radius of induced mantle flow.

Activities of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors modulate neurotransmission and synaptic architecture

The cholinergic system is involved in a broad spectrum of brain function, and its failure has been implicated in Alzheimer＇s disease. Acetylcholine transduces signals through muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, both of which influence synaptic plasticity and cognition. However, the mechanisms that relate the rapid gating of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors to persistent changes in brain function have remained elusive. Recent evidence indicates that nicotinic acetylcholine receptors activities affect synaptic morphology and density, which result in persistent rearrangements of neural connectivity. Further investigations of the relationships between nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and rearrangements of neural circuitry in the central nervous system may help understand the pathogenesis of Alzheimer＇s disease.

Research on welding simulation methods and software development

To develop highly efficient and useful software, we need to understand the essential feature of the welding phenomenon. From the mechanical point view, welding is a transient nonlinear problem in which small but strongly nonlinear region is moving with the welding torch. Noting this characteristic, ISM （Iterative Substructure Method） was developed for the thermal-elastic-plastic analysis of large scale structures. It is also known that the welding distortion and the residual stress are produced by inherent strain. The inherent strain is the sum of irreversible strains such as plastic strain due to welding thermal cycles or phase transformation and creep strain. In addition to the inherent strain, the mismatch produced by cutting error and fitting is also an important cause of the welding distortions and residual stresses. Based on this understanding, an elastic FEM introducing the inherent strain and mismatch is developed. The potential capabilities of these methods are demonstrated through some examples.

Feature-aware regularization for sparse online learning

Learning a compact predictive model in an online setting has recently gained a great deal of *** combination of online learning with sparsity-inducing regularization enables faster learning with a smaller memory space than the previous learning *** optimization methods and learning algorithms have been developed on the basis of online learning with L1-regularization.L1-regularization tends to truncate some types of parameters,such as those that rarely occur or have a small range of values,unless they are emphasized in ***,the inclusion of a pre-processing step would make it very difficult to preserve the advantages of online *** propose a new regularization framework for sparse online *** focus on regularization terms,and we enhance the state-of-the-art regularization approach by integrating information on all previous subgradients of the loss function into a regularization *** resulting algorithms enable online learning to adjust the intensity of each feature’s truncations without pre-processing and eventually eliminate the bias of *** show theoretical properties of our framework,the computational complexity and upper bound of *** demonstrated that our algorithms outperformed previous methods in many classification tasks.

Prediction of the Residual Welding Stress in 2.25Cr-1Mo Steel by Taking into Account the Effect of the Solid-State Phase Transformations

A computational approach based on the thermal elastic plastic finite element method was developed for predicting welding residual stress in low carbon alloyed steel welds by taking into account the effect of the solid-state phase transformations. The kinetics of phase transformations was described by Johnson Mehl Avrami Kolmogrov （JMAK） equation for bainitic transition and by Koistinen-Marburger （K-M） relationship for martensitic transition. Moreover, an additive rule depending on volumetric phase fraction was adopted to represent the material property changes during heating and cooling. Consequently, the residual welding stresses in a 2.25Cr1Mo steel TIG welded plate were computed. Early calculation results suggest that the bainitic and martensitic transformations took place in the weld the heat-affected zone drastically reduce the residual longitudinal tensile stress in the region.

A Wire-Driven Series Elastic Mechanism Based on Ultrasonic Motor for Walking Assistive System

In order to improve the elderly people's quality of life,supporting their walking behaviors is a promising ***,based on one ultrasonic motor,a wire-driven series elastic mechanism for walking assistive system is proposed and investigated in this *** contrast to tradition,it innovatively utilizes an ultrasonic motor and a wire-driven series elastic mechanism to achieve superior system performances in aspects of simple structure,high torque/weight ratio,quiet operation,quick response,favorable electromagnetic compatibility,strong shock resistance,better safety,and accurately stable force *** proposed device is mainly composed of an ultrasonic motor,a linear spring,a steel wire,four pulleys and one rotating *** overcome the ultrasonic motor's insufficient output torque,a steel wire and pulleys are smartly combined to directly magnify the torque instead of using a conventional gear *** the pulleys,there is one tailored pulley playing an important role to keep the reduction ratio as 4.5 ***,the prototype is manufactured and its actual performance is verified by experimental *** a one-second operating cycle,it only takes 86 ms for this mechanism to output an assistive torque of 1.6 N·*** this torque,the ultrasonic motor's speed is around 4.1 rad/***,experiments with different operation periods have been conducted for different application *** study provides a useful idea for the application of ultrasonic motor in walking assistance system.
