Novel CYP1B1 mutations and a possible prognostic use for surgical management of congenital glaucoma

AIM: To identify CYP1B1 gene mutations and evaluate their possible role as a prognostic factor for success rates in the surgical management of Egyptian congenital glaucoma ***: Totally 42 eyes of 29 primary congenital glaucoma patients were operated on with combined trabeculotomy/trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C and followed up at 1 d, 1 wk, 1, 6 and 12 mo postoperatively. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. Coding regions of CYP1B1 gene were amplified using 13 pairs of primers, screened for mutations using single-strand conformation polymorphism followed by sequencing of both strands. Efficacy of the operation was graded as either a success [maintaining intraocular pressure(IOP) less than 21 mm Hg with or without antiglaucoma medication], or a failure(IOP more than 21 mm Hg with topical antiglaucoma medications). RESULTS: Seven novel mutations out of a total of 15 different mutations were found in the CYP1B1 genes of 14 patients(48.2%). The presence of CYP1B1 gene mutations did not correlate with the failure of the surgery(P=0.156, odds ratio=3.611, 95%CI, 0.56 to 22.89); while the positive consanguinity strongly correlated with failure of the initial procedure(P=0.016, odds ratio=11.25, 95%CI, 1.57 to 80.30). However, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed a significantly lower time of IOP control in the subgroup with mutations in CYP1B1 versus the congenital primary glaucoma group without mutations(log rank test, P=0.015).CONCLUSION: Seven new CYP1B1 mutations are identified in Egyptian patients. Patients harboring confirmed mutations suffered from early failure of the initial surgery. CYP1B1 mutations could be considered as a prognostic factor for surgery in primary congenital glaucoma.

Fabrication of Congo Red/Oxidized Porous Silicon (CR/OPS) pH-Sensors

The fabrication of nano porous silicon, nPSi, using alkali etching process has been studied and carried out. The surface chemistry of anisotropic etching of n-type Si-wafer is reviewed and the anisotropic chemical etching of silicon in alkaline solution using wetting agents is discussed. Transformation of crystallographic plane of n-Si (211) to nPSi (100) has occurred on using n-propanol as wetting agent. The rate of pore formation was 0.02478 - 0.02827 μm/min, which was heavily dependent upon the concentration of the etchant containing wetting agents, allowing patterned porous silicon formation through selective doping of the substrate. A particle size of 15 nm for porous nano-silicon was calculated from the XRD data. Porosity of PS layers is about 10%. Pore diameter and porous layer thickness are 0.0614 nm and 16 μm, respectively. The energy gap of the produced porous silicon is 3.3 eV. Furthermore, the combination of PS with Congo Red, which are nanostructured due to their deposition within the porous matrix is discussed. Such nano compounds offer broad avenue of new and interesting properties depending on the involved materials as well as on their morphology. Chemical route was utilized as the host material to achieve pores filling. They were impregnated with Congo Red, which gave good results for the porous silicon as a promising pH sensor.

A Fundamental Equation of Thermodynamics that Embraces Electrical and Magnetic Potentials

This paper introduces an energy-analysis of the flow of electrical charges and magnetic flux in addition to the flow of heat into a thermodynamic system. The analysis depends on the results of a held experiment on a magnet that attracted iron balls and a Faraday’s discovery as well as similarities between the laws characterizing the flow of electric charges, magnetic flux and heat. As the electric charge and magnetic flux produce entropy changes in some applications as magnetic hysteresis and capacitive deionization, we may express the electric charges and magnetic flux in terms of entropy changes times their corresponding potentials by analogy to expressing heat as a product of temperature and entropy changes. Introducing such postulates into the held energy-analysis;a new fundamental equation of thermodynamics that embraces the flow of electric charges and magnetic flux in terms of the electric and magnetic potentials was derived. The derived equation proved its truth in numerous studies of general energy interactions. Such postulates help also in defining the electric charge and magnetic flux as categories of electromagnetic waves of assigned electric or magnetic potentials and offer plausible explanations of newly discovered phenomena in the fields of electromagnetism and thermodynamics as Kerr effect and magnetic expansion.

Sentiment analysis or Opinion Mining (OM) has gained significant interest among research communities and entrepreneurs in the recentyears. Likewise, Machine Learning (ML) approaches is one of the interestingresearch domains that are highly helpful and are increasingly applied in severalbusiness domains. In this background, the current research paper focuses onthe design of automated opinion mining model using Deer Hunting Optimization Algorithm (DHOA) with Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) abbreviatedas DHOA-FNN model. The proposed DHOA-FNN technique involves fourdifferent stages namely, preprocessing, feature extraction, classification, andparameter tuning. In addition to the above, the proposed DHOA-FNN modelhas two stages of feature extraction namely, Glove and N-gram ***, FNN model is utilized as a classification model whereas GTOA isused for the optimization of parameters. The novelty of current work is thatthe GTOA is designed to tune the parameters of FNN model. An extensiverange of simulations was carried out on the benchmark dataset and the resultswere examined under diverse measures. The experimental results highlightedthe promising performance of DHOA-FNN model over recent state-of-the-arttechniques with a maximum accuracy of 0.9928.

Boundary-layer non-Newtonian flow over vertical plate in porous medium saturated with nanofluid

The free convective heat transfer to the power-law non-Newtonian flow from a vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with nanofluid under laminar conditions is investigated. It is considered that the non-Newtonian nanofluid obeys the mathematical model of power-law. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brown- ian motion and thermophoresis. The partial differential system governing the problem is transformed into an ordinary system via a usual similarity transformation. The numer- ical solutions of the resulting ordinary system are obtained. These solutions depend on the power-law index n, Lewis number Le, buoyancy-ratio number Nr, Brownian motion number Nb, and thermophoresis number Nt. For various values of n and Le, the effects of the influence parameters on the fluid behavior as well as the reduced Nusselt number are presented and discussed.

Influence of chemical reaction on heat and mass transfer of non-Newtonian fluid with yield stress by free convection from vertical surface in porous medium considering Soret effect

The effect of chemical reaction on free convection heat and mass transfer for a non-Newtonian power law fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium has been studied in the presence of the yield stress and the Soret effect. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimen- sionless form by similarity transformations, and the resulting system of equations is solved by a finite difference method. The results are preSented and discussed for concentration profiles, as well as the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number for various values of the parameters, which govern the problem. The results obtained show that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the presence of the chemical reaction parameter γ the order *** chemical reaction parameter m, the Soret number St, the buoyancy ratio N, the Lewis number Le, and the dimensionless rheological parameter Ω.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis:risk factors and causative organisms

Objective:To determine the prevalent pathogens responsible for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP) and their sensitivity pattern,to test the efficiency of different culture techniques in microbial isolation,and to study the diagnostic predictors of such ***:One hundred eight SBP episodes from 92 adult patients were compared to 88 cirrhotic ascites patients cross - matched with age and sex without *** fluid was subjected to cytological,biochemical examination and culture on both conventional and blood culture bottles at the bedside for bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility ***:The prevalence of SBP was 25.02%.Logistic regression analysis revealed that;previous SBP episode,low ascitic fluid protein levels, high serum creatinine and low serum albumin levels were the independent significant predictors of *** forty - five per cent of SBP episodes were detected by conventional culture compared to 73.15%by modified technique with a significant *** - negative bacteria were the cause of SBP in 46(58.23%) culture positive *** coli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly detected organisms. Resistance to different antibiotics was ***:Culture of ascitic fluid in blood culture bottles at bedside increases the sensitivity of SBP *** is a recent increase in Gram - positive pathogen with emergence of multidrug *** recent changes may have an impact on guidelines for management and treatment of SBP in our locality.

Skin wounds can lead to numerous complications with dangerous health *** this work,magnetite nanoparticles were doped with different concentrations of antimicrobial silver(Ag)ions and incorporated into the electrospun nanofibrous ε-polycaprolactone(PCL)*** and scaffolds with various Ag contents were characterized using a range of physicochemical *** entered magnetite as cations and preferentially positioned at tetrahedral sites,introducing lattice distortions and topographic *** of the structure due to accommodation of Ag expanded the lattice in the bulk and contracted it on the surface,where broadened distribution of Fe-O coordinations was *** spin canting and diminishing the double exchange interaction through altered distribution of ferric and ferrous ions,Ag softened the magnetism of *** making the nanoparticle structure more defective,Ag modified the interface with the polymer and promoted the protrusion of the nanoparticles from the surface of the polymeric nanofibers,thus increasing their roughness and hydrophilicity,with positive repercussions on cell adhesion and *** the viability of human melanocytes and the antibacterial activity against *** and *** increased with the concentration of Ag in the magnetite phase of the *** wound healing rate in rats also increased in direct proportion with the concentration of Ag in the magnetite phase,and no abnormalities in the dermal and epidermal tissues were visible on day 10 in the treatment *** results imply an excellent potential of these composite nanofibrous scaffolds for use as wound dressings and in other reconstructive skin therapies.
