Asy.metry.aware load balancing for parallel applications in single-ISA multi-core sy.tems

Contemporary.operating sy.tems for single-ISA (instruction set architecture) multi-core sy.tems attempt to distribute tasks equally.among all the CPUs. This approach works relatively.well when there is no difference in CPU capability. However, there are cases in which CPU capability.differs from one another. For instance, static capability.asy.metry.results from the advent of new asy.metric hardware, and dy.amic capability.asy.metry.comes from the operating sy.tem (OS) outside noise caused from networking or I/O handling. These asy.metries can make it hard for the OS scheduler to evenly.distribute the tasks, resulting in less efficient load balancing. In this paper, we propose a user-level load balancer for parallel applications, called the 'capability.balancer', which recognizes the difference of CPU capability.and makes subtasks share the entire CPU capability.fairly. The balancer can coexist with the existing kernel-level load balancer without detrimenting the behavior of the kernel balancer. The capability.balancer can fairly.distribute CPU capability.to tasks with very.little overhead. For real workloads like the NAS Parallel Benchmark (NPB), we have accomplished speedups of up to 9.8% and 8.5% in dy.amic and static asy.metries, respectively. We have also experienced speedups of 13.3% for dy.amic asy.metry.and 24.1% for static asy.metry.in a competitive environment. The impacts of our task selection policies, FIFO (first in, first out) and cache, were compared. The use of the cache policy.led to a speedup of 5.3% in overall execution time and a decrease of 4.7% in the overall cache miss count, compared with the FIFO policy. which is used by.default.

Objective: The aim of the work described here was to evaluate the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in response evaluation for unresectable advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with ty.osine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) plus anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) antibody.therapy. Methods: A prospective cohort of consecutive patients with HCC who received combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody.treatment for unresectable HCC between January.2022 and October 2022 was included in this study. The patients underwent unenhanced ultrasound (US) and CEUS examinations before treatment and at follow-up. Changes in the largest diameters of the target tumor on unenhanced US and the largest diameters of the enhancing target tumors on CEUS were evaluated. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 with unenhanced US and magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomography.(MRI/CT) and modified RECIST (mRECIST) with CEUS and CEMRI/CT were used to assess treatment response. Results: A total of 24 HCC patients (23 men and 1 woman; mean age: 56.5 ± 8.5 y. Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C, 62.5%; 29 intrahepatic target tumors) were studied. Calculations of degree of necrosis in the target tumors revealed no significant differences between CEUS and CEMRI/CT (44.5 ± 36.2% vs. 45.3 ± 36.8%, p = 0.862). As for the differentiation of responders from non-responders, the agreement between RECIST version 1.1 of unenhanced US and mRECIST-CEUS was poor (κ coefficient = 0.233). Meanwhile, there was a high degree of concordance between mRECIST-CEUS and mRECIST-CEMRI/CT (κ coefficient = 0.812). Conclusion: CEUS proved to be superior to baseline US and is comparable to CEMRI/CT in defining treatment outcome for combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody.therapy. © 2023 World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology

Metal halide perovskites have emerged as promising light-emitting materials for next-generation display. owing to their remarkable material characteristics including broad color tunability.pure color emission with remarkably.narrow bandwidths,high quantum y.eld,and solution *** recent advances have pushed the luminance efficiency.of monochromic perovskite light-emitting diodes(PeLEDs)to their theoretical limits,their current fabrication using the spincoating process poses limitations for fabrication of full-color *** integrate PeLEDs into full-color display.panels,it is crucial to pattern red–green–blue(RGB)perovskite pixels,while mitigating issues such as cross-contamination and reductions in luminous ***,we present state-of-the-art patterning technologies for the development of full-color ***,we highlight recent advances in the development of efficient ***,we discuss various patterning techniques of MPHs(i.e.,photolithography.inkjet printing,electron beam lithography.and laserassisted lithography.electrohy.rody.amic jet printing,thermal evaporation,and transfer printing)for fabrication of RGB pixelated *** patterning techniques can be classified into two distinct approaches:in situ cry.tallization patterning using perovskite precursors and patterning of colloidal perovskite *** review highlights advancements and limitations in patterning techniques for PeLEDs,paving the way.for integrating PeLEDs into full-color panels.

Obesity.has been known to negatively.modulate the life-span and immunosuppressive potential of mesenchy.al stromal cells(MSC).However,it remains unclear what drives the compromised potency.of obese *** this study.we examined the involvement of adiponectin,an adipose tissuederived hormone,in obesity.induced impaired therapeutic function of ***-induced obesity.leads to a decrease in serum adiponectin,accompanied by.impairment of survival and immunomodulatory.effects of adipose-derived MSC(ADSC).Interestingly.priming with globular adiponectin(gAcrp)improved the immunomodulatory.potential of obese *** effects were also observed in lean *** addition,gAcrp potentiated the therapeutic effectiveness of ADSC in a mouse model of DSS-induced ***,while obesity.inhibited the gly.oly.ic capacity.of MSC,gAcrp treatment induced a metabolic shift toward gly.oly.is through activation of adiponectin receptor ty.e 1/p38 MAPK/hy.oxia inducible factor-1a *** findings suggest that activation of adiponectin signaling is a promising strategy.for enhancing the therapeutic efficacy.of MSC against immune-mediated disorders.

An update on hormonal regulation of early.embry.-fallopian tube interactions: insights for improvements of assisted reproductive technology.outcomes

Human fallopian tubes (FTs) play.important roles in the whole reproductive process. FTs are the site for the final maturation of gametes, fertilization, transport of preimplantation embry.s, and early.embry.nic development before entering the uterus. All these functions are critical in the establishment of a successful pregnancy. When the embry. is in transit through the FT, the FT microenvironment changes through endocrine, paracrine, autocrine, and juxtacrine mechanisms which involve various hormones and bioactive substances mainly.from the neighboring cells. Therefore, the interactions between the embry. and the FT may.be the earliest embry.-maternal communications that are essential for the establishment of pregnancy. This review critically.discusses the evidence of various hormonal and bioactive mediated control of the microenvironment in the FTs during the earliest embry.-maternal communications. Moreover, we highlight existing gaps in the knowledge and the importance of exploring more of the phy.iology.of FTs which will hold the key.to producing high-quality.embry.s for patients seekingin vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.

Spatial correlation effect and influencing factors of provincial carbon emission performance in China

At the completion of the "1+N" policy.sy.tem for the "dual-carbon" target, improving carbon performance is a key.to promoting balance between the environment and the economy.and facilitating sy.ergistic regional sustainability. However, the existing studies mainly.focus on the measurement of carbon emission performance, influencing factors and traditional spatial scales, lacking exploration of the spatial correlation strength, network characteristics, and network conditions of various provinces and regions of carbon emission performance, and rarely.examining the influencing factors of spatial network relationships from the perspective of spatial networks. Therefore, this article used the super-efficient SBM model to calculate the carbon emission performance of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2022. The structural characteristics of the network, transmission paths of interrelationships, network effects, and influencing factors were analy.ed using the modified gravity.model and social network analy.is. The results are as follows: ① China' s carbon emission performance increased significantly. the spatial correlation network characteristics were obvious, manifested as a dense in the east and sparse in the west pattern with the " Beijing—Shanghai" double core actors as the center, and gradually.formed a complex and compact network distribution form. ② The number of relationships within each sector of the network is significantly.lower than between sectors, and the direct connection and correlation between the " net spillover" and "net beneficial" sectors were strengthened. The influence of the "bidirectional spillover" and "broker" sectors has been gradually.weakening. ③ The overall and individual structural characteristics of the correlation network significantly.affect carbon emission performance. In 2019, the newly.revised Drug Administration Law of the People′s Republic of China was issued and implemented, clearly.proposing that China should establish a pharmacovigilance sy.tem. As a new traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) dosage form created in China, TCM injections have been widely.used in clinic, and its pharmacovigilance has attracted much attention. In response to this situation, the project team convened a group of clinical, pharmaceutical and evidence-based medicine experts from all over the country.to form an expert group, which formulated the Pharmacovigilance guidelines for clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine injections in strict accordance with the requirements of the group standards of the Chinese Association of Chinese Medicine. From the perspective of clinical application and considering the key.elements of pharmacovigilance for clinical application of TCM injections, the guidelines put forward suggestions on the decision making of pharmacovigilance for clinical application of TCM injections from four key.links, namely.the monitoring and reporting, signal recognition, risk assessment and risk control, according to China′s pharmacovigilance regulations and learning from foreign pharmacovigilance guidelines. © 2024 Zhongguo Zhongy. y.njiuy.an. Dy.amic of Scalar Bosons in Aharonov-Bohm Magnetic Field

We study.the dy.amic of scalar bosons in the presence of Aharonov-Bohm magnetic field. First, we give the differential equation that governs this dy.amic. Secondly. we use variational techniques to show that the following Schrödinger-Newton equation: , where A is an Aharonov-Bohm magnetic potential, has a unique ground-state solution.
