Solar-driven cO_(2) conversion to methane and methanol using different nanostructured cu_(2)O-based catalysts modified with Au nanoparticles

This work describes the use of TiO_(2)nanotubes-based electrodes(TNT)modified with cu_(2)O nanostructures and gold nanoparticles for the photoelectroreduction of cO_(2)to produce value-added compounds.A thin layer of polydopamine was used as both an adherent agent and an electron transfer mediator,due to itsπ-conjugated electron *** highest production yield was achieved using a TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode,with Faradaic efficiencies of 47.4%(110.5μM cm^(-2))and 27.8%(50.4μM cm^(-2))for methanol and methane,*** performance of the photoelectrodes was shown to be cu_(2)O facet-dependent,with cubic structures leading to greater conversion of cO_(2)to methanol(43%)and methane(27%),compared to the octahedral morphology,while a higher percentage of metallic gold on the nanostructured cu_(2)O surface was mainly important for *** functional theory(DFT)calculations supported these findings,attributing the superior photoelectrocatalytic performance of the TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode for cH4generation to the formation of an OcH3intermediate bonded to Au *** using isotope-labeling and analysis by gas chromatograph-mass(Gc-MS)demonstrated that13cO_(2)was the source for photoelectrocatalytic generation of13cH3OH and13cH313cH2OH.

Acute pancreatitis complicated with splenic rupture: A case report

Atraumatic splenic rupture is an uncommon complication of acute pancreatitis. This report describes the case of a 30-year-old man with acute pancreatitis and splenic vein thrombosis complicated by splenic rupture. The patient was admitted to the emergency department with pain in the upper abdomen that had been present for six hours and was associated with vomiting and sweating. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis of alcoholic etiology. Upon computed tomography(cT) of the abdomen, the pancreatitis was scored as Balthazar c grade, and a suspicious area of necrosis affecting 30% of the pancreas with splenic vein thrombosis was revealed. Seventytwo hours after admission, the patient had significant improvement in symptoms. However, he showed clinical worsening on the sixth day of hospitalization, with increasing abdominal distension and reduced hemoglobin levels. A cT angiography showed a large amount of free fluid in the abdominal cavity, along with a large splenic hematoma and contrast extravasation along the spleen artery. The patient subsequently underwent laparotomy, which showed hemoperitoneum due to rupture of the splenic parenchyma. A splenectomy was then performed, followed by ultrasound-guided percutaneous drainage.

The effectiveness of different wear indicators in quantifying wear on railway wheels of freight wagons

Railway infrastructure relies on the dynamic interaction between wheels and rails;thus,assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of maintenance and *** paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gamma(Tγ).Amidst its use,it becomes apparent that Tγ,while valuable,fails to provide a comprehensive reflection of the actual material removal and actual contact format,which means that using only Tγas a target for optimization of profiles is not *** this work,three different freight wagons are evaluated:a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from South American railways,and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe,with different axle loads and dissimilar new wheel/rail *** vehicles are subjected to comprehensive multibody simulations on various *** simulations aimed to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index,material removal,and maximum wear depth,under diverse curves,non-compensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and *** findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and material removed for the outer *** the results,the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is more suited to foresee the material *** results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together,the study aims to improve the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each parameter.

Seizures of agrochemical formulations have increased in Brazil and Rio Grande do Sul is among the Brazilian states with the highest number of seizures of these products obtained illicitly. The use of illicit formulations can cause significant harm to agricultural production, the environment, and non-target species. This study evaluated the cytotoxicity and oxidative stress of a seized formulation containing the herbicide imazethapyr (IMZT). characterization of the herbicide included gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Gc-MS) and thermal analyses (thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSc)). Hemolytic and cytotoxicity assays in ZF-L hepatic cells showed Ic50 values of 12.75 µg/mL, 3.01 µg/mL, 2.67 µg/mL, and 1.61 µg/mL for erythrocytes, [3(4,5-dimethyl)-2 bromide-5 diphenyl tetrazolium] (MTT), neutral red (NR), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays, respectively. The median Ic50 of 2.84 µg/mL was used in oxidative stress assays, revealing increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, reduced total sulfhydryl content, and decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (cAT) activity. This study is the first to report in vitro oxidative stress induced by IMZT in the ZF-L cell line, emphasizing the importance of in vitro assays for assessing the toxic effects of seized agrochemicals on human health and the environment.

Boll weevils in dry bolls: is there a performance disadvantage?

Background Anthonomus grandis grandis is the main cotton pest in the Americas, with the potential to become a pest in other continents. The insect uses the plant's reproductive organs for feeding, oviposition, and survival strategies in the off-season, sheltering in dry bolls. This study aimed to know the reproductive potential, feeding, longevity, and morphometric characteristics of boll weevils from dry bolls, squares, and traps. Adults were obtained from infested squares, dry bolls, and traps installed in cotton fields and the caatinga area. Thirty weevil pairs were maintained in the laboratory to assess the oviposition, feeding holes, longevity, and morphometric measurements of the parental and *** In the parental generation, boll weevils from traps（the caatinga area and cotton cultivation） showed greater reproductive potential. Boll weevils from squares and the caatinga area showed greater feeding activity compared with those from cotton cultivation. Greater rostrum length, thorax + abdomen length, and abdomen width were observed in boll weevils from cotton cultivation and dry bolls. The origin of boll weevils parental generation did not affect progeny emergence time. The F1generation of boll weevils showed significant differences in average longevity depending on the origin of different microhabitats. Furthermore, differences in rostrum lengths were observed, with the boll weevils coming from traps installed in cotton cultivation, the caatinga area, and dry bolls being the largest. Regarding thorax + abdomen length and abdomen width, the highest values were observed in those from the caatinga area and cotton *** It was proven that dry bolls did not affect the reproductive, feeding, and longevity performance of boll weevils, enabling better insect fitness（reproduction and size） in relation to those coming from squares. The use of dry bolls as off-season shelter is an important survival strategy for the boll weevil.

Five Year Follow up after Surgical Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes with Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Associated with a Duodenal Ileal Interposition

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a chronic disease, primarily caused by a combination of defective insulin secretion and the inability of insulin-sensitive tissues to respond to insulin. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy associated with duodenal ileal interposition (SGDII) has been shown to be a feasible treatment option for patients with T2D, as it provides improvement and control of glycemia, dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mid and long-term results of SGDII for the treatment of diabetic patients, considering diabetic remission, weight loss and postoperative complications. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study with 96 patients with T2D submitted to SGDII, between 2010 and 2016. The glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value Results: Sixty-one patients (62.8%) were male, and 36 patients (37.2%) were female. The average age was 50.9 years. Median BMI was 33.43 kg/m2. The incidence of major postoperative complications in the first 30 days was 2.1%, with no mortality. Dyslipidemia control was sustained, after five years, in 62% of the patients. The five years follow-up demonstrated that 80% of patients had T2D remission at one year, 74.5% at three years and 61.8% at five years. Univariate analysis demonstrated that preoperative values of HbA1c and BMI, preoperative use of insulin, gender, and 30-day complication were not predictors of remission at all study intervals. The average duration of the disease was nine years and the mean glycated hemoglobin before surgery was 8.95%. conclusion: SGDII resulted in good glycemic control at 5-years follow-up and represents a valid alternative for the treatment of T2D.

On Sliding Friction of PEEK Based composite coatings

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) based composite materials become of great interest to applications as bearing and slider materials due to their excellent tribological performance. In present work, graphite and MoS2 (7%, wt) filled PEEK coatings were prepared using serigraph technique. Employing a uniform design experiment, the friction behavior of the composite coatings was systematically investigated under dry sliding conditions on a ball-on-disc arrangement. The evolution mechanism of coating friction coefficient was discussed. correlation of coatings friction coefficient with sliding velocity and applied load was accomplished using stepwise regression method. The results indicate that friction coefficients of PEEK + MoS2 and PEEK + graphite coating decrease while increasing applied load. Moreover, friction coefficient of PEEK + MoS2 coating increases with increasing sliding velocity.
