Autoregressive spatial analysis and individual tree modeling as strategies for the management of eremanthus erythropappus

The objectives of this study were to apply statistical techniques to discriminate fertilization treatments of eremanthus erythropappus（DC.） mac *** autoregressive modeling, and to develop individual tree models for diameter and crown area（CA） projection to define management strategies for candeia plantations subjected to different fertilization treatments. This is an important tree species originating from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain forest and Savannah biomes, intensively used in the cosmetic industry. Nonetheless, to date, research has not addressed the management of natural stands or plantations of the species. Our experiment was located in Baependi, minas Gerais, Brazil, and comprised of four randomized blocks and 13 treatments. The treatments consisted of 12 different regimes of fertilization plus a control. each sample plot was composed of 50 plants plus two border plants in a planting spacing of 2.5 9 2.0 m and undergoing pruning at 5 and 6 years of age. Starting in the second year, total tree height（H） and circumference（at 1.30 m from the ground or breast height, CBH） were measured every 6 months. Starting in the fifth year CA was measured. Tree growth varied by fertilization *** were detected by using an autoregressive approach, considering that standard statistical methods were not powerful enough to detect significant *** growth groups were formed, and maximum growth was obtained for treatment 10（NPK, 8-28-16）. management guidelines are provided based on individual tree models for different fertilization levels.

Tetramethrin Identified in Fat Adjacent to mammary Carcinoma in a male Dog—Case Report

Canine mammary tumors (CmT) are very common in female dogs, representing approximately 50% of all tumors in this species, but are highly uncommon in male dogs and are primarily related to hyperestrogenism. There is considerable scientific interest in the possible role of environmental contaminants in the etiology of mammary tumors, specifically in relation to synthetic chemical substances released into the environment to which living beings are either directly or indirectly exposed. In this study, the presence of pyrethroid insecticide was observed in adipose tissue adjacent to canine mammary tumors. High Precision Liquid Chromatography—HPLC was adapted to detect and identify environmental contaminants in adipose tissue adjacent to malignant mammary tumor in one male dog, Akita, 12 years old. After surgery, the mass was carefully examined for malignant neoplastic lesions. Five grams of adipose tissue adjacent to the tumor was collected to detect environmental contaminants. The pyrethroid was identified as tetramethrin, at 0.20 μg/g. This is the first report in which the environmental contaminant level was detectable in adipose tissue of this male dog with a malignant mammary tumor, by HPLC. Results suggest the possible involvement of pyrethroid in the canine mammary tumor carcinogenesis since this animal did not present any other tumor that could cause hyperestrogenism.

Process mineralogy of Lateritic Nickel Ore

This paper presents a methodology for studying low grade lateritic nickel ore, which usually presents complex mineralogy, with widespread nickel in several mineral phases. The study is focused on determining the mineralogy and the distribution of nickel in the bearing minerals. Laboratory assays comprise homogenization, sampling and particle size analysis. Chemical analyses by X-ray fluorescence are performed in all fractions sizes, while mineralogical assessments by X-ray diffraction are carried out for head sample. The mineralogical composition of the samples and the partition of main elements in the bearing minerals are assayed by size fraction through automated image analysis software (mLA) coupled to a scanning electron microscope (Sem). The chemical compositions of the several minerals identified in mLA are determined during systematic observations on Sem with energy dispersive spectrometer (eDS).

ensuring the physiological quality of the seeds depends on storage conditions. Since their quality cannot be improved, good conditions during this period will contribute on keeping them viable for a longer time, delaying the deterioration process. In the present study, the effect of five storage periods in a refrigerated chamber at 15℃± 1℃, on the seeds viability during 30, 60, 90, 150 and 240 days of storage in glass containers was evaluated. Four replicates of twenty-five seeds per treatment were used and the data were compared by regression equation. It verified that, regardless of the storage time, the seeds when submitted to the drying temperature of 35℃and 40℃showed a significant linear reduction of germination, GSI and seed vigor after storage.

Optimization of the Chitinase Production by Different metarhizium anisopliae Strains under Solid-State Fermentation with Silkworm Chrysalis as Substrate Using CCRD

entomopathogenic fungi, such as metarhizium anisopliae, are able to control various insect pests. These fungi attack the integument of the host using an enzymatic complex. Among the enzymes found in this complex, chitinase is an important component. However, the relation between the chitinase production and the virulence from different m. anisopliae strains has not been analyzed. In this manuscript it is presented the chitinase production by four m. anisopliae strains with different potential of virulence in Solid-State Fermentation using silkworm chrysalis as substrate. The higher chitinase level was obtained with the strain IBCB 360 (7.14 U/g of substrate) with potential virulence of 68% on Diatrea saccharalis. The enzyme production was optimized for all strains using a factorial planning (CCRD) considering the cultivation time and medium humidity as independent variables. The maximal production of chitinase was obtained at a range from 8 to 12-days old cultures and from 45% to 62% of moisture according to the surface response plot, with high R2 value. The enzyme production by the strain IBCB 167 was increased two-folds under optimized conditions, while for the strains IBCB 360 and 425 the chitinase production was increased four-folds and nine-folds for the strain IBCB 384.

Aims Different plant functional groups display diverging responses to the same environmental ***,we assess the effects of environmental and spatial predictors on species turnover of three functional groups of Brazilian savannas(Cerrado)plants—trees,palms and lianas—across the transition zone between the Cerrado and Amazon biomes in central *** We used edaphic,climatic and plant composition data from nine one-hectare plots to assess the effects of the environment and space on species turnover using a Redundancy Analysis and Generalized Dissimilarity modeling(GDm),associated with variance *** Findings We recorded 167 tree species,5 palms and 4 liana *** variation was most important in explaining species turnover,relative to geographic distance,but the best predictors differed between functional groups:geographic distance and silt for lianas;silt for palms;geographic distance,temperature and elevation for *** distances alone exerted little influence over species turnover for the three functional *** pure environmental variation explained most of the liana and palm turnover,while tree turnover was largely explained by the shared spatial and environmental *** effects of geographic distance upon species turnover leveled off at about 300 km for trees,and 200 km for lianas,whereas they were unimportant for palm species *** results indicate that environmental factors that determine floristic composition and species turnover differ substantially between plant functional groups in ***,we recommend that studies that aim to investigate the role of environmental conditions in determining plant species turnover should examine plant functional groups separately.

AIm: To investigate chromosome 8 numerical aberra- tions, C-mYC oncogene alterations and its expression in gastric cancer and to correlate these findings with histo- pathological characteristics of gastric tumors. meTHODS: Specimens were collected surgically from seven patients with gastric adenocarcinomas. Immu- nostaining for C-mYC and dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for C-mYC gene and chromosome 8 centromere were performed. ReSULTS: All the cases showed chromosome 8 aneu- ploidy and C-mYC amplification, in both the diffuse and intestinal histopathological types of Lauren. No significant difference (P erved between the level ofchromosome 8 ploidy and the site, stage or histological type of the adenocarcinomas. C-mYC high amplification, like homogeneously stained regions (HSRs) and double minutes (Dms), was observed only in the intestinal-type. Structural rearrangement of C-mYC, like translocation, was observed only in the diffuse type. Regarding C-mYC gene, a significant difference (P erved between the two histological types. The C-mYC protein was expressed in all the studied cases. In the intestinal- type the C-mYC immunoreactivity was localized only in the nucleus and in the diffuse type in the nucleus and cytoplasm. CONCLUSION: Distinct patterns of alterations between intestinal and diffuse types of gastric tumors support the hypothesis that these types follow different genetic path- ways.

The southern portion of the Sao Francisco Palaeocontinent in Brazil is denoted by Archean nuclei and Paleoproterozoic magmatic arcs that were amalgamated during Siderian to Orosirian orogenic processes(ca.2.4-2.1 Ga).New isotopic U-Pb in zircon and Sm-Nd whole rock combined with major and trace element composition analyses constrain the crystallization history of the Neoarchean Piedade block(at ca.2.6 Ga)and the Paleoproterozoic mantiqueira Complex(ca.2.1-1.9 Ga).These therefore display quite different magmatic histories prior to their amalgamation at ca.2.05 ***-Nd and Rb-Sr isotopes imply a mixed mantle-crustal origin for the samples in both units.A complete Palaeoproterozoic orogenic cycle,from subduction to collision and collapse,is recorded in the Piedade Block and the mantiqueira *** to Orosirian subduction processes(ca.2.2-2.1 Ga)led to the generation of coeval(ca.2.16 Ga)TTG suites and sanukitoids,followed by late(2.10-2.02 Ga)high-K granitoids that mark the collisional *** collisional accretion of the mantiqueira Complex against the Piedade Block at 2.08-2.04 Ga is also recorded by granulite facies metamorphism in the latter terrane,along the Ponte Nova suture *** collisional stage was closely followed by the emplacement of within-plate tholeiites at ca.2.04 Ga and by alkaline rocks(syenites and enriched basic rocks)at ca.1.98 Ga,marking the transition to an extensional tectonic *** discovery of two episodes of TTG and sanukitoid magmatism,one during the Neoarchean in the Piedade Complex and another during the Rhyacian in the mantiqueira Complex,indicates that the onset of subduction-related melting of metasomatized mantle was not restricted to Neoarchean times,as generally believed,but persisted much later into the Paleoproterozoic.
