shoot density, standing crop （above- and below-ground biomass） and habitat of salt marsh grass Porteresia coarctata were investigated along the coast of Bakkhali estuary, Cox＇s Bazar, Bangladesh from January to December 2006. shoot density of P. coarctata was influenced by season and was found to be higher （〉2 500 shoots/m2） in post-monsoon and minimal in monsoon season; plants were particularly active in vegetative propagation during pre-monsoon. Above-ground biomass was greater along the protected coast compared with the exposed one in this estuary. Below-ground biomass was higher （7.75-269.53 g DW/m2） than that above ground （2.20-114.75 g DW/m2）. standing crops ofP. coarctata showed a negative relationship （R=-0.77; P〈0.05） with sedimentation rate, while seasonal activity influenced sedimentation. The recorded sedimentation rate was lower （6.09 mg/（cm2·d）） in pre-monsoon and highest （14.55 mg/（cm2·d）） in monsoon season. The mean value of pore water salinity was higher （34.25±65.05） during post-monsoon and lowest （18.0±3.71） in monsoon season. The soil was sandy clay in this P. coarctata bed; it consisted of 86% sand, 13% clay and 1% silt. soil organic matter dropped during the monsoon season （0.78%-0.67%） and was highest （（2.17±1.42）%-（2.3±1.47）%） during post-monsoon, probably owing to accumulation of decomposed peat on the marsh surface. The mean pore water NH4-N concentration ranged from 2.444-1.65 to 3.33±1.82 μg/L, with a minimum air temperature of 22.09℃ in post-monsoon and a maximum of 31.16℃ in pre-monsoon. Variations of physico-chemical parameters in the soil, water, and climate governed biological parameters of P. coarctata in the Bakkhali estuary, and were comparable with estuarine environments elsewhere.

Canola oil and light cycle oil （LCO） blends were co-hydrotreated over a commercial hydrotreating catalyst （NiMo/Al2O3） to produce diesel fuel with a green diesel component. High hydrodeoxygenation, hydrodesul- phurization and hydrodenitrogenation catalytic activities were achieved for all three feedstocks tested in the temperature range of 350-380℃ with a hydrogen pressure of 7 MPa and a gas/oil ratio of 800 nL/L. The hydrocrack- ing conversion of the 360℃ ＋ materials in the feedstocks increased by 5% and 15% when 5 and 7.5 wt-% canola oil was added to the LCO, respectively. Compared to the pure LCO, the cetane index of the diesel product formed from hydrotreating the two canola oil-LCO blends increased by 2.5 and 4, respectively. Due to the higher hydrogen requirement to crack and deoxygenate the triglycerides contained in the canola oil, a higher hydrogen consumption was needed to hydrotreat the canola oil-LCO blends.

Phaeocystis globosa is a harmful algal bloom(HAB)species *** modified clay(MC)to control HABs and to mitigate their adverse effects is currently a commonly used method in *** this paper,the effects of oxidized composite modified clay(OXI-MC)on *** were studied from different *** results show that the OXI-MC could effectively remove *** and inhibit both the growth of residual algal cells and the formation of new *** *** algal biomass removal efficiencies after 3 h reached 90%at a dose of 0.1 g/L,and the number of colonies with different particle sizes was greatly *** with those of the control,the superoxide dismutase(sOD)activity,catalase(CAT)activity,and malondialdehyde(MDA)content of the residual algae significantly increased,indicating that OXI-MC caused oxidative stress in the algal *** addition,we evaluated the effects of OXI-MC on the photosynthesis of residual microalgae and found that the maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem II(PsII)under dark adaptation(F v/F m)and actual photochemical efficiency of PsII(ФPsII)decreased,severely damaging the photosynthesis efficiency,implying that OXI-MC effected the photosynthesis system of *** results of this study clarify that OXI-MC could remove the most of algal cells and break up the colonies of *** by collision,flocculation,and releasing active substances,as well as inhibit effectively the growth and colony formation of residual *** by causing oxidative stress,reducing photosynthesis activity,accelerating the degradation of polysaccharides,and inhibiting the formation of colonies.

Quiescent mixing of aqueous lactose solution with ethanol by gentle pouring allowed controlled observation of a transient, spontaneous emulsification process between ethanol and water. This phenomenon contrasts with the conventional stable phase-separation process for ethanol-water systems with other solutes. The presence of lactose in the dissolved state was deduced to be the key factor causing spontaneous emulsification. This explains the transitional behavior of the phenomenon. Further experiments with aqueous maltodextrin solution, using the same experimental technique, confirmed this phenomenon. The mechanisms determined in this work will form the basis of porous-particle synthesis via the antisolvent vapor-precipitation technique.

Zooplankton plays an important role in aquatic food webs by fluxing of energy from primary producer to subsequent trophic levels in the food chain. The annual pattern of zooplankton communities and potential environmental drivers were studied in the Kohelia channel, Bangladesh from summer 2014 to spring *** were collected using net at a depth of 1 m. A total of 32 species belonged to 18 orders, 27 families and 15 taxonomic groups were identified. Of these species, 22 distributed in all four seasons of which 8 were dominant and highly contributing to the total communities. species number peaked in summer next to winter and fall in spring while maximum abundance was in summer and minimum in spring. Multivariate analyses showed that there was a clear annual pattern in the zooplankton communities. species diversity and evenness peaked in spring but fall in autumn while the high value of species richness was found in winter. Biological-environmental best matching（BIO-ENV） analyses conformed that community pattern of zooplankton was mainly driven by transparency salinity, and temperature individually or combined with water nutrients. These results demonstrate that annual pattern of the zooplankton community shaped by channel environmental factors in subtropical channel ecosystems, thus might be used for community-based subtropical coastal water bioassessment.

Decaying mangrove detritus plays a significant role in nutrient cycling and fueling in both the forests and aquatic habitats where the detritus stems from estuarine and coastal food *** decay rates partly depend on the type of detritus,but most studies have thus far focused on leaf litter decay and decomposition,whereas other detrital sources(except for roots)have largely been *** compare the decay rates of Rhizophora apiculata and Xylocarpus granatum non-leafy detritus(flowers,propagules,stipules,and twigs)with mangrove leaf litter in field studies,using litter bags during the dry and the wet seasons in the tropical mangrove forest of sibuti,sarawak,*** observed higher microbial decay rates of stipules,flowers,propagules,and twigs for both the *** and *** the wet *** contrast,leaf decay rates were higher during the dry *** rates depended on the lignin content of the detrital sources of both species,both during dry and wet ***,the half-life(T0.5)and 95%lifespan(T0.95)of non-leaf materials(flowers,propagules,stipules and twigs)for both species were remarkably longer than those of leaf *** decaying non-leafy detritus may play a significant role in nutrient and carbon cycling over longer time,when leaf litter is either being decomposing rapidly and/or being washed away by tidal flush and river ***,non-leafy(flowers,propagules,stipules and twigs)detritus should be taken into account when budgeting organic matter turnover in mangroves.

在我国西部地区，特别是地形变化剧烈且风化作用严重的Ⅰ台地过渡的斜坡地带，常常见撒落作用造成的巨大散体堆积体，俗称“溜砂坡”。溜砂坡是指高陡斜坡，在强风化作用下形成砂粒和碎屑，在自重作用下发生溜动，并在坡脚堆积形成的锥状斜坡。溜砂坡的形成发育是气候、地层岩性、地形地貌、水文地质条件、植被和生态等各种因素综合作用的结果。目前对这类堆积斜坡变形破坏机制及破坏效应的研究较少，大多停留在参考滑坡治理中常用的方法，前人对溜砂坡进行室内物理模拟试验研究时，多采用玻璃、大米等非岩质试验材料，用沙盘研究采用的是细颗粒而非碎石，且采用锥形堆积试验而不是斜坡滚动试验，且模型较小，难以达到模拟目的。针对此类堆积斜坡以大型物理模拟试验的方式对散粒体斜坡颗粒物质的运动及堆积特征、自组织特性进行研究对中国这样一个多山的国家实施西部大开发战略、预防边坡地质灾害、建设大型基础设施具有十分重要的理论意义与现实意义。本文确定了以汶川县、茂县、天山公路的野外现场调查为研究基础，以茂县洼底乡散粒体斜坡为典型研究对象，采用野外实地调查、室内物理模拟、资料搜集、文献查阅等研究方法，对散粒体斜坡的变形破坏机制进行试验研究。主要研究成果如下：（1）颗粒运动形式主要有滑动、滚动以及两者之间相互转换等。（2）单个规则颗粒的平均运移距离比不规则颗粒的要大，颗粒的运移距离与本身颗粒的大小并没有呈现出明显联系。（3）散粒体颗粒越均匀及颗粒级配越差，砂坡破坏的坡角就越大;颗粒越是不均匀，坡体破坏是的坡角就越小;坡体堆积过程中同一部位倾角不断起伏。（4）试验观察可见坡体由上而下随着细颗粒的逐渐减少而粗颗粒却不断的增多，分维数由上而下逐渐减小。（5）对散粒体斜坡进行开挖坡脚时，坡体滑塌后重新形成的斜坡的休止角与天然休止角变化不大。（6）溜砂坡的失稳模式有3种：牵引式、推移式、溃曲破坏。（7）散粒体斜坡的天然休止角与颗粒的不均匀程度、颗粒粒径大小有关。随着颗粒不均匀程度的增大，砂砾休止角越大;随着颗粒粒径的增大，休止角的大小有增大的趋势。

River dynamics play the most vital role in the socio-economic of the country. These rivers are highly dynamic in nature which causes extensive riverbank erosion. Active river bank erosion and bed scouring, is apprehended to change the scenario, leading to loss of limited valuable land of Bangladesh. River training is being practiced in Bangladesh since 1960s but the process is very expensive especially in the Ganges and the Jamuna Rivers. Five types of river training works were selected at different reaches. Hydro-morphological characteristics of the major rivers are being evaluated not only in engineering concepts but also in socio-economic and environmental aspects. PRA （participatory rural appraisal） tools were applied to evaluate protection safety, hydraulic and hydrological connectivity, ecological and environmental characteristics, causes of failure and social acceptability. This comparative study is being carried out for closing the gap between the modem river training works and in country experience through adaptation of research findings with a view to effectively arresting river bank erosion. sirajganj Hardpoint, Chandpur Town Protection work and Nakalia Revetment are found to be suitable and effective. A technically suitable structure may not have good social acceptance without IWRM （integrated water resource management）.
