Well-defined surface structures and uniformity are key factors in exploring structure–activity relationships in heterogeneous catalysts.A modified atomic layer deposition method and three well-defined CeO_(2) nanoshapes,octahedra with(111)surfaces,cubes exposing(100)facets,and rods with(100)and(110)surface facet terminations,were utilized to synthesize ultra-low loading Pt/CeO_(2) catalysts and allow investigations on the influence of ceria surface facet on isolated Pt species under reducing conditions.A mild reduction temperature(150℃)reduces the initial platinum ions present on the surfaces of the ceria support but preserves the isolated Pt atoms on all ceria surface *** contrast,a reduction temperature of 350°C,reveals very different interactions between the initial single Pt atoms and the various ceria surface facets,leading to dissimilar and nonuniform Pt ensembles on the three ceria *** isolate facet dependent Pt–CeO_(2) interactions and avoid variations between Pt species,the Pt1/CeO_(2) catalysts after reduction at 150°C were subjected to CO oxidation *** isolated Pt atoms on the CeO_(2) octahedra and cubes are less active in the CO oxidation reaction,compared with Pt on CeO_(2) *** the case of Pt on the CeO_(2) octahedra this is due to strongly bound CO blocking active sites together with a stable CeO_(2)(111)surface limiting the oxygen supply from the *** the CeO_(2) cubes,some Pt is not available for reaction and CO is bound strongly on the available Pt *** addition,the Pt catalysts supported on the CeO_(2) cubes are not stable with time on *** isolated Pt atoms on the CeO_(2) rods are considerably more active under these conditions and this is due to a weaker Pt–CO bond strength and more facile reverse oxygen spillover from the defect-rich(110)surfaces of the rods due to the lower energy of oxygen vacancy formation on this CeO_(2) *** Pt supported on the CeO_(2) rods is also remarkably stable with t

Anemia is a frequent finding in most diseases which cause malabsorption. The most frequent etiology is the combination of iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. Celiac disease is frequently diagnosed in patients referred for evaluation of iron deficiency anemia (IDA), being reported in 1.8%-14.6% of patients. Therefore, duodenal biopsies should be taken during endoscopy if no obvious cause of iron defi ciency (ID) can be found. Cobalamin defi ciency occurs frequently among elderly patients, but it is often unrecognized because the clinical manifestations are subtle; it is caused primarily by food-cobalamin malabsorption and pernicious anemia. The classic treatment of cobalamin deficiency has been parenteral administration of the vitamin. Recent data suggest that alternative routes of cobalamin administration (oral and nasal) may be useful in some cases. Anemia is a frequent complication of gastrectomy, and has been often described after bariatric surgery. It has been shown that banding procedures which maintain digestive continuity with the antrum and duodenum are associated with low rates of ID. Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection may be considered as a risk factor for IDA, mainly in groups with high demands for iron, such as some children and adolescents. Further controlled trials are needed before making solid recommendations about H pylori eradication in these cases.

Background:There are few data regarding endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)usefulness in children and *** reviewed the long-term experience with diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP in a tertiary single center in Southern ***:A retrospective chart review of patients aged 0-18 years who had undergone ERCPs from January 2000 to June 2012 was *** on demographics,indications,diagnosis,treatments,and complications were ***:Seventy-five ERCPs were performed in 60 *** median age of the patients at the procedure was 13.9 years(range:1.2-17.9).Of the 60 patients,47(78.3%)were *** all ERCPs,48(64.0%)were performed in patients above 10 years and 35(72.9%)of them were in *** was indicated for patients with bile duct obstruction(49.3%),sclerosing cholangitis(18.7%),post-surgery complication(12%),biliary stent(10.7%),choledochal cyst(5.3%),and pancreatitis(4%).The complication rate of ERCP was 9.7%involving mild bleeding,pancreatitis and *** who had therapeutic procedures were older(13.7±3.9 vs.9.9±4.9 years;P=0.001)and had more extrahepatic biliary abnormalities(82%vs.50%;P=0.015)than those who had diagnostic ERCPs.A marked change in the indications of ERCPs was found,i.e.,from 2001 to 2004,indications were more diagnostic and from 2005 therapeutic procedures were ***:Diagnostic ERCPs are being replaced by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and also by endoscopic *** these procedures are complementary and ERCP still has a role for therapeutic purposes.

Background: Epidemiologic research to learn the incidence, type, location, and severity of female soccer injuries and the risk factors for sustaining a sport injury is the first step in developing preventive policies. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of injuries in the population of female soccer players in ***: The injuries incurred by 25,397 female soccer players were registered by the medical staff of the Spanish Football Federation during 1 season. A standardized medical questionnaire was used to classify the injury according to type, severity, location, and injury mechanism. A total of 2108 injuries was reported with an incidence of 0.083 injuries per player per season. most injuries were in the lower limbs(74.0%), mainly affecting knee(30.4%) and ankle joints(17.9%).Results: The proportion of injuries derived from contact with another player was higher during matches(33.7%) than during training(11.4%;p more frequently than were contact injuries(51.0% vs. 42.6%; p mechanism, location, or severity; p > 0.05).Conclusion: most female soccer injuries were located at the knee and ankle; the injury mechanism determined the playing time lost; and the player's age did not affect injury characteristics.

Cave animals are an excellent model system for studying adaptive *** present,however,little is known about the mechanisms that enable surface colonizers to survive in the challenging environment of *** possibility is that these species have the necessary genetic background to respond with plastic changes to the pressures of underground *** gain insight into this process,we conducted a comparative study with the fish species Telestes karsticus,which occurs in a hydrological system consisting of an interconnected stream and a *** showed that *** resided year-round and spawned in Sušik cave,making it the first known cavefish in the Dinaric *** and surface populations differed in morphological and physiological characteristics,as well as in patterns of gene expression without any evidence of genetic *** test whether observed trait differences were plastic or genetic,we placed adult fish from both populations under light/dark or constant dark *** laboratory conditions erased all morphometric differences between the two morphs,suggesting phenotypic plasticity is driving the divergence of shape and size in wild *** pigmentation and increased fat deposition exhibited by cave individuals were also observed in surface fish kept in the dark in the *** study also revealed that specialized cave traits were not solely attributed to developmental plasticity,but also arose from adult responses,including ***,we conclude that *** can adapt to cave conditions,with phenotypic plasticity playing an important role in the process of cave colonization.

Genetic characterization of species using phylogeographic approaches represents a basic reference to understand their evolutionary history as well as to identify conservation priorities to protect areas of particular interest regarding evolutionary *** in well-studied regions such information is lacking for the majority of species,including many endemic species with reduced distribution *** investigate the phylogeographic pattern of the Iberian frog Rana iberica,an endemic amphibian restricted to Central and North-Western Iberian *** mitochondrial sequences,we reconstruct the phylogeographic history of the species to test the effect of Quaternary climate changes on the evolutionary diversification of lineages,that is,the differentiation of mitochondrial lineages and the formation of genetic diversity melting pots,and integrate phylogeographic evidence for future conservation *** results indicate the existence of 3 main mitochondrial lineages differentiated during the Upper *** historical demographic analyses and climatic niche modeling show a strong effect of glacial climate changes,suggesting recurrent range contractions and *** such circumstances,differentiation took place most likely by isolation in allopatric interglacial *** lineage admixture in northern Portugal generated a broad mixed zone with highest nucleotide *** its particular evolutionary potential,its reduced distribution and eventual threats under current climate change scenario,conservation priorities should focus on the isolated lineage from Sierra de Guadalupe.

Phenology allows organisms to overcome seasonally variable conditions through life-cycle adjustment. Changes in phenology can drastically modify the evolutionary tra- jectory of a population, while a shift in the reproductive time may cause allochronic differentiation. The hypothesis of heritable reproductive time was experimentally tested, by studying a unique population of the pine processionary moth Thaumetopoeapityocampa （Den. ＆ Schiff.） which has a shifted phenology, and however co-occurs with the typical population following the classical life cycle. When populations of both types were reared under controlled conditions, the reproductive time was maintained asynchronous, as ob- served in the field. The shifted population was manipulated in the laboratory to reproduce later than usual, yet the offspring emerged in the next year at the expected dates thus ＂com- ing back＂ to the usual cycle. Hybrids from crosses performed between the 2 populations showed an intermediate phenology. From the emergence times of parents and offspring, a high heritability of the reproductive time （h = 0.76） was observed. The offspring ob- tained from each type of cross was genetically characterized using microsatellite markers. Bayesian clustering analysis confirmed that hybrids can he successfully identified and separated from the parental genetic classes by genotyping. Findings support the hypothesis that, for this particular population, incipient allochronic speciation is due to a heritable shift in the reproductive time that further causes assortative mating and might eventually cause ecological adaptation/maladaptation in response to environmental changes.
