Purpose The aim of the present review was to focus on normobaric hypoxic resistance training and to discuss to what extent this method can be efficient for athletes to potentiate classical adaptations to resistance training and thereby *** Search terms related to the topic of the present review such as normobar*,hypox*,resistance exercise,resistance training and performance were inserted in Pubmed and *** total,16 articles made the core of this narrative *** Based on the available literature,2-3 sessions a week performed in hypoxic conditions for 4-6 weeks with a F_(i)O_(2)of 0.14-0.15 should recommended to athletes looking at potentiating the effects of resistance training.A large range of loads has been found to be efficient at inducing physiological effects in hypoxic vs normoxic conditions,from 20%to 90%of the ***,at least the last set should be performed to failure,if not ***,inter-set rest periods should be around 30 s for low-load exercise(30%-40%1-RM),around 60 s for moderate-load exercise(60%-70%1-RM)and 2 min for high-load exercise(85%-90%1-RM).Conclusion While there is no one size fits all and certainly no guarantee of added value over normoxic training,each athlete looking at potentiating the effects of resistance training should try to implement some sessions in hypoxic *** on the individual response,subtle improvements may be expected on muscle strength and mass,velocity and power,as well as hormonal responses to resistance training.

Time lag characteristics of sap flow in seed-maize and their implications for modeling transpiration in an arid region of Northwest China

Plant capacity for water storage leads to time lags between basal stem sap flow and transpiration in various woody plants. Internal water storage depends on the sizes of woody plants. However, the changes and its influencing factors in time lags of basal stem flow during the development of herbaceous plants including crops remain unclear. A field experiment was conducted in an arid region of Northwest China to examine the time lag characteristics of sap flow in seed-maize and to calibrate the transpiration modeling. Cross-correlation analysis was used to estimate the time lags between stem sap flow and meteorological driving factors including solar radiation（R_s） and vapor pressure deficit of the air（VPD_（air））. Results indicate that the changes in seed-maize stem sap flow consistently lagged behind the changes in R_s and preceded the changes in VPD_（air） both on hourly and daily scales, suggesting that light-mediated stomatal closures drove sap flow responses. The time lag in the maize＇s sap flow differed significantly during different growth stages and the difference was potentially due to developmental changes in capacitance tissue and/or xylem during ontogenesis. The time lags between stem sap flow and R_s in both female plants and male plants corresponded to plant use of stored water and were independent of total plant water use. Time lags of sap flow were always longer in male plants than in female plants. Theoretically, dry soil may decrease the speed by which sap flow adjusts ahead of shifts in VPD_（air） in comparison with wet soil and also increase the speed by which sap flow adjusts to R_s. However, sap flow lags that were associated with R_s before irrigation and after irrigation in female plants did not shift. Time series analysis method provided better results for simulating seed-maize sap flow with advantages of allowing for fewer variables to be included. Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is an increasing threat to global healthcare *** therefore sought compounds with potential to reverse antibiotic resistance in a clinically relevant multi-drug resistant isolate of Escherichia coli(NCTC 13400).200 natural compounds with a history of either safe oral use in man,or as a component of a traditional herb or medicine,were *** compounds;ellagic acid,propyl gallate,cinchonidine and cepharanthine,lowered the minimum inhibi-tory concentrations(MICs)of tetracycline,chloramphenicol and tobramycin by up to fourfold,and when combined up to *** compounds had no impact on the MICs of ampicillin,erythromycin or *** studies revealed that while cepharanthine potently suppressed efflux of the marker Nile red from bacterial cells,the other hit com-pounds slowed cellular accumulation of this marker,and/or slowed bacterial growth in the absence of *** cepharanthine showed some toxicity in a cultured HEK-293 mammalian cell-line model,the other hit compounds exhibited no toxicity at concentrations where they are active against *** NCTC *** results suggest that phytochemicals with capacity to reverse antibiotic resistance may be more common in traditional medicines than previously appreciated,and may offer useful scaffolds for the development of antibiotic-sensitising drugs.

The development of carbon dioxide(CO_2) sorbents that can operate at elevated temperatures is significant for the advancement of pre-combustion capture ***, promoter-based systems composed of alkali/alkaline earth metal nitrates and/or carbonates have been considered as next-generation solid sorbents due to their improved CO_2 uptake and kinetics. However, obtaining stable MgO sorbents against temperature swing regeneration still remained challenging. Herein, we report MgO-TiO_2 solid sorbents promoted by eutectic mixture(KNO_3 and LiNO_3) for elevated temperature CO_2 sorption. The developed sorbents show improved CO_2 sorption capacity, which may be attributed to the alternative CO_2 sorption pathway provided by the ionization of highly dispersed MgO in the eutectic mixture. The MgO-TiO_2 framework was also shown to assist in retaining the MgO configuration by constraining its interaction with CO_2. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that constructing composite structures is essential to improve the CO_2 sorption characteristics,mainly recyclability, at elevated temperatures. The developed promoter integrated sorbents showed exceptionally high CO_2 sorption capacity of > 30 wt.% at an elevated temperature(300°C) with pronounced stability under temperature swing operation.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is a major public health concern being the third leading cause of cancer mortality in the United States. The availability of better therapeutic options has led to a decline in cancer mortality in these patients. Surgical resection should be considered in all stages of the disease. The use of conversion therapy has made surgery a potentially curative option even in patients with initially unresectable metastatic disease. In this review we discuss the role of various antiangiogenic agents in patients with metastatic CRC(m CRC). We describe the mechanism of action of these agents, and the rationale for their use in combination with chemotherapy. We also review important clinical studies that have evaluated the safety and efficacy of these agents in m CRC patients. Despite the discovery of several promising anti-angiogenic agents, m CRC remains an incurable disease with a median overall survival of just over 2 years in patients exposed to all available treatment regimens. Further insights into tumor biology and tumor microenvironment may help improve outcomes in these patients.

Many hydropower plants are operated as peak generators or frequency controllers, because they can change their output quickly to follow the fluctuating power demand. When meeting peak load requirements, a power station is turned on at a particular time during the day, generates power at a constant load for a certain number of hours, and is then turned off or set to a different load for another time period, resulting in a high variability inflow discharges. Where reservoir hydro schemes are operated primarily to provide peak load services, there are particular environmental risks that should be considered in any environmental impact assessment. At a minimum these should focus on water quality, fluvial geomorphology, riparian vegetation, macro-invertebrate and fish communities underpinned by a sound hydrological analysis. Frequent temperature changes may occur downstream of a peaking power station; increased seepage-induced erosion of riverbanks due to frequent water level drawdowns; and impacts to macro-invertebrate and fish communities due to rapid and frequent in channel habitat conditions. With a sound understanding of the potential environmental issues, there are strategies that can be employed at the siting and design stage to minimize or mitigate these risks, including but not limited to minimum environmental flows, ramping rules, utilization of a re-regulation storage and localized treatment works.
