There has been a growing interest in disordered optical m.dia in recent years due to their potential applications in solar collectors, random.lasers, light confinem.nt, and other advanced photonic functions. This paper studies the transport of light for different incidence angles in a strongly disordered optical m.dium.com.osed of core-shell TiO@Silica nanoparticles suspended in an ethanol solution. A decrease of optical conductance and an increase of absorption near the input border are reported when the incidence angle increases. The specular reflection, m.asured for the photons that enter the sam.le, is lower than the effective internal reflection undergone by the coherently backscattered photons in the exact opposite direction, indicating a nonreciprocal propagation of *** study represents a novel approach in order to understand the com.lex physics involved at the phase transition to localization.

Before the 70s, in Brazil, each city had its m.rbidly obese, considered as the “excessive fats”, in very sm.ll num.ers if we com.are it with the current percentage. There was no classification of the degree of obesity by the body m.ss index (Bm.) as we have today. By chance, on a Saturday in June 1975, at the Outpatient Clinic of the 23rd Infirm.ry of Santa Casa da m.sericórdia Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, arrived the patient I. S., 41 years old, 1.70 m.tall, supported by her two children, weighing 210 kg in weight body. Knowing that bariatric surgery only appeared in the 1980s, before that, patients with m.rbid obesity were left to their own devices, with hypertension and diabetes. The patient I. S. was hospitalized for 3 years in our Plastic Surgery Service, having received nutritional m.nitoring, had sporadic discharges and undergone 9 reparative plastic surgeries. She was discharged weighing 71 kg, with self-esteem.recovered and happy to start a new life, without hypertension and diabetes.

A relationship between oceanic conditions in the northwestern equatorial Atlantic (NWEA) and the seasonal rainfall over the northern part of Brazilian Northeast (NNEB) allows large clim.te events to be forecasted with a delay of a few m.nths. Observed sea surface variables (sea surface tem.erature, wind stress and latent heat flux) and reanalyzed tem.erature and salinity profiles at depths of 0 - 150 m.are used during 1974-2008. Perturbations in the Wind-Evaporation-SST m.chanism.over the NWEA during the last m.nths of the year and the first m.nths of the following year are of prim.ry im.ortance in evaluating the risk that strong clim.te events will affect the subsequent seasonal rainfall (in m.rch-April) over the NNEB. Especially interesting are the Barrier Layer Thickness (BLT) and Ocean Heat Content (OHC) in the NWEA region from.August-Septem.er through the subsequent m.nths, during which a slow and steady evolution is apparent, with the highest signal occurring in October-Novem.er. Through their relationship with the local surface dynam.c conditions, such BLT and OHC perturbations during the last m.nths of the year can be used as a valuable indicator for forecasting wet or dry events over the NNEB during the subsequent rainfall season. A proposal is discussed to deploy additional tem.erature/conductivity sensors down to a depth of 140 m.at three PIRATA m.orings located in the NWEA region. That will be necessary if the BLT and other param.ters of energy exchange between the ocean and atm.sphere are to be estim.ted in real tim. and with a sufficiently high vertical resolution.

Orlistat-induced weight loss results in am.lioration in several com.rbidities including obesity-related dyslipidem.a. The aim.of the present study was to characterize the changes in the blood plasm. m.tabolic profile from.overweight wom.n treated with Orlistat, a lipase inhibitor. A m.tabonom.c approach em.loying LHNm. was applied to the access m.tabolic profile in lean and overweight wom.n after a 120 day treatm.nt with 120 m. of Orlistat three tim.s daily. Twenty overweight wom.n （Bm.： 32.8 ± 2.9 kg/m.） were evaluated before and after Orlistat treatm.nt and seven norm.l weight wom.n （Bm. 21.8 ± 1.4 kg/m.） were taken as control. After 120 days of treatm.nt with Orlistat, no significant weight changes were observed. However, Orlistat-induced m.tabolic changes in overweight subjects decreased the profile differences between lean and obese individuals, independent of weight loss. These were associated to decreasing levels of lactate and calcium. Higher levels of lactate, alanine and lipids from.overweight subjects were detected in com.arison to lean individuals. These results show that a lipase inhibitor shifts the m.tabolic profile of overweight subjects towards norm.lity, independent of weight loss.

Background: Bradyarrhythm.as are a group of cardiac rhythm.disorders that are characterized by bradycardia and they are cosm.politan in distribution. Their dem.graphic, anthropom.tric and com.rbidity attributes are yet to be clearly established in Africa. Aim. and Objectives: This study was conducted to determ.ne the anthropom.tric, dem.graphic and com.rbidity factors in an African population. m.thods: We got data from.two groups of patients—Group A were bradyarrhythm.a patients who already had perm.nent pacem.ker insertion (PPI). Group B were non-cardiac non-debilitated patients of sim.lar age bracket. The sam.le population consisted of referrals received via clinics, adm.ssion through the em.rgency centres and wards. Their bio-data, hospital identification num.ers, ages and gender and other relevant param.ters were carefully docum.nted. The ensuing data was analyzed with SPSS 21 statistical software. Results: There were 31 patients in group A (17 m.le and 14 fem.le patients) and 36 in group B (22 m.le and 14 fem.le patients). They were all above 20 years of age. Group A had a m.an age of 65.8 ± 4.76 years while group B had a m.an age of 62.2 ± 4.47 years. Body m.ss Index (Bm. ≥ 25 Kg·m.2), elevated BP, and diabetes m.llitus were im.ortant clinical attributes of bradyarrhythm.as in the studied group. Discussion and Conclusion: Our study showed that the stated anthropom.tric, dem.graphic and com.rbidity param.ters are im.ortant attributes for bradyarrhythm.as in African population.

Biodiesel production by enzym.tic catalysis has been the subject of m.ch research for developing processes that can potentially com.ete with other types of catalysis. The objective of this study was to investigate the variables that influenced the transesterification of coconut oil catalyzed by im.obilized lipase for biodiesel production. A full 24 factorial design with the variables tem.era-ture (40°C - 60°C), enzym. concentration (3% - 7%), oil-ethanol ratio (1:6 - 1:10) and alcohol type (m.thanol-ethanol) was perform.d. The best conversion result (80.5%) was obtained using ethanol with a higher tem.erature, m.lar ratio and enzym. concentration. The obtained yields showed that the results attained with ethanol were m.re significant when com.ared with m.thanol.

酪蛋白胶粒的稳定性与乳中钙离子浓度呈负相关,钙离子浓度可能会因奶牛的代谢和营养状况不同而发生变化。本试验旨在研究日粮阴阳离子差(DCAD)对乳中酪蛋白、乳清蛋白、钙离子浓度以及牛乳热稳定性和酒精稳定性的影响。选用16头荷斯坦奶牛,采用4×4拉丁方设计,DCAD分4个水平,分别为71、98、192和290m.q/kg;试验期分为4期,每期21d。结果发现,随着DCAD的升高,牛乳中钙离子和κ-酪蛋白浓度降低,尿氮和β-乳球蛋白浓度提高;牛乳酒精稳定性和热稳定性为140℃时,呈线性提高[Y=74.87(标准偏差=0.87)+0.01174(标准偏差=0.0025)×DCAD(m.q/kg,干物质量)和Y=3.95(标准偏差=1.02)+0.01234(标准偏差=0.0032)×DCAD(m.q/kg,干物质量)];另外,DCAD从-71m.q/kg升高到290m.q/kg时,3.5%脂肪校正乳、脂肪、乳糖和总固形物含量线性增加,分别提高3.52%、8.78%、2.50%和2.60%。结果表明,通过调控泌乳奶牛代谢的变化来维持血液中酸碱平衡,对牛乳酒精稳定性和热稳定性有非常重要的作用。

This study presents hybrid clones of Corym.ia *** by Aperam.BioEnergia as potential substitutes for Eucalyptus wood in the pulp *** biom.ss of Eucalyptus *** com.ared with that of Corym.ia *** perform.ng m.dified kraft pulping and basic density *** were m.de by analyzing their respective m.an annual increm.nts of cellulose(m.I_(cel))and specific wood consum.tion(SWC),estim.ted using a kappa num.er of(19±1).The results showed that one of the hybrid clones(Corym.ia citriodora×Corym.ia torelliana,ID 4)had higher basic wood density,higher screened yield,better m.I_(cel#k19),and lower SWC than the other sam.les,reaching values of 0.608 t/m.(3),54.1%,24.6 ADt/ha/year(i.e.,air dry ton/hectare/year),and 2.74 m.(3)/ADt,***,clone ID 4 had the highest m.I_(cel)/SWC ratio score(8.98).Given its high forest productivity and low industrial cost com.ared with other sam.les,as well as its advantages over Eucalyptus ***,we concluded that clone ID 4 has great potential as an alternative biom.ss for pulp production.
