A Reinforcement Learning approach for the continuous electricity market ofGermany: Trading from the perspective of a wind park operator

With the rising extension of renewable energies, the intraday electricity markets have recorded a growingpopularity amongst traders as well as electric utilities to cope with the induced volatility of the energysupply. Through their short trading horizon and continuous nature, the intraday markets offer the abilityto adjust trading decisions from the day-ahead market or reduce trading risk in a short-term notice. Producersof renewable energies utilize the intraday market to lower their forecast risk, by modifying their providedcapacities based on current forecasts. However, the market dynamics are complex due to the fact that thepower grids have to remain stable and electricity is only partly storable. Consequently, robust and intelligenttrading strategies are required that are capable to operate in the intraday market. In this work, we proposea novel autonomous trading approach based on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithms as a possiblesolution. For this purpose, we model the intraday trade as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and employ theProximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm as our DRL approach. A simulation framework is introducedthat enables the trading of the continuous intraday price in a resolution of one minute steps. We test ourframework in a case study from the perspective of a wind park operator. We include next to general tradeinformation both price and wind forecasts. On a test scenario of German intraday trading results from 2018,we are able to outperform multiple baselines with at least 45.24% improvement, showing the advantage of theDRL algorithm. However, we also discuss limitations and enhancements of the DRL agent, in order to increasethe performance in future works.

Background and purpose Retinal pathologies are an independent risk factor for ischaemic stroke,but research on the predictive value of retinal abnormalities for recurrent vascular events in patients with prior stroke is *** investigated the association of retinal pathologies with subsequent vascular *** In a substudy of the Intensified secondary prevention intending a reduction of recurrent events in TIA and minor stroke patients(INsPiRE-TMs)trial,we enrolled patients with recent transient ischaemic attack(TIA)or minor stroke with at least one modifiable risk *** outcome was the composite of subsequent vascular *** photographs were taken at baseline and categorised into three different fundus groups by a telemedically linked *** 722 patients participated in the current study and 109 major vascular events *** multivariable adjustments,we did not find a significant association between fundus categories and risk for subsequent vascular events(HRs for moderate vascular retinopathy and vascular retinopathy with vessel rarefaction in comparison to no vascular retinopathy 1.03(95%CI 0.64 to 1.67),p=0.905 and 1.17(95%CI 0.62 to 2.20),p=0.626).In a selective post hoc analysis in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension,patients with vascular retinopathy with vessel rarefaction had a higher risk for recurrent stroke(HR 24.14(95%CI 2.74 to 212.50),p=0.004).Conclusions Retinal changes did not predict major subsequent vascular events in patients with recent TIA or minor *** studies are needed to examine the utility of fundus photography in assessing the risk of stroke recurrence in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension.

Psoriasis is a chronic,non-communicable,painful,disfiguring and disabling disease for which there is no cure,with great negative impact on patients’quality of life(QoL).Diagnosis and treatment with traditional Chinese medical technique based on syndrome differentiation has been used in practice for a long time and proven effective,though,up to now,there are only a few available studies about the use of semantic technologies and the knowledge systems that use Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)-syndrome differentiation for information retrieval and automated *** this paper we use semantic techniques based on ontologies to develop a prototypical system for the diagnosis of *** this purpose,a domain ontology is developed for syndrome differentiation of psoriasis vulgaris(PV).This ontology is founded on an adapted version of the general formal ontology(GFO),with the evidence-based clinical practice guideline of TCM for psoriasis vulgaris(Guideline 2013)as the primary data *** implemented prototype,called ONTOPV,contains this domain ontology and is aimed at a decision support system for diagnosis and treatment of *** system uses a case-database for Case Based Reasoning(CBR),combined with fuzzy pattern *** results show that the ONTOPV realizes the basic functionalities of data collection,querying,browsing and navigation,and supports rule-based knowledge reasoning,and integrates fuzzy pattern *** can provide users with clinical decision support for TCM syndrome differentiation in diagnosis of psoriasis.

The milling behavior of poly(amide imide),which serves as a prototypical hydrophilic high-performance polymer with a high glass transition temperature,was *** milling conditions(milling times up to 7h,stirrer tip speeds of 3.4-4.9 m/s,and mass concentrations of 5-20%) were tested,and particle sizes as low as d50,33μm were *** milling was performed at 11℃ in an *** scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis were performed before and after milling to investigate the effect of milling on the glass transition temperature and on the decomposition behavior of the *** suspension obtained after milling was observed to be stable without the addition of stabilizers or the adjustment of the pH value,and no negative effect of milling on the polymer properties was *** attritor technique proved to be an adequate and efficient milling tool for the production of micrometer-sized high-performance polymer suspensions.

Directed x-rays produced in the interaction of sub-picosecond laser pulses of moderate relativistic intensity with plasma of near-critical density are investigated. synchrotron-like (betatron) radiation occurs in the process of direct laser acceleration (DLA) of electrons in a relativisticlaser channel when the electrons undergo transverse betatron oscillations in self-generated quasi-static electric and magnetic fields. In anexperiment at the PHELIX laser system, high-current directed beams of DLA electrons with a mean energy ten times higher than the ponderomotive potential and maximum energy up to 100 MeV were measured at 10^(19) W/cm^(2)laser intensity. The spectrum of directed x-raysin the range of 5–60 keV was evaluated using two sets of Ross filters placed at 0°and 10°to the laser pulse propagation axis. The differential x-ray absorption method allowed for absolute measurements of the angular-dependent photon fluence. We report 10^(13) photons/sr withenergies >5 keV measured at 0°to the laser axis and a brilliance of 10^(21) photons s^(−1) mm^(−2) mrad−2(0.1%BW)−1. The angular distributionof the emission has an FWHM of 14°–16°. Thanks to the ultra-high photon fluence, point-like radiation source, and ultra-short emissiontime, DLA-based keV backlighters are promising for various applications in high-energy-density research with kilojoule petawatt-class laserfacilities.

A dynamic two-zone model of continuous fluidized bed layering granulation with internal product classification

A dynamic two-zone model is proposed to address the formation of granulation and drying zones in fluidized bed layering granulation processes with internal product classification. The model assumes a constant volume for the granulation zone, but a variable overall volume for the fluidized bed to account for classified product removal. The model is used to study the effect of various process parameters on dynamics and process stability. stability is shown to depend on the separation diameter of product removal and the flow rate of the injected liquid. A lower and upper range of separation diameters with stable process behavior are found. In an intermediate range instability in the form of self-sustained oscillations is observed. The lower stability boundary is in qualitative agreement with recent experimental observations （schmidt, Bück, ＆ Tsotsas, 2015）; the upper boundary was reported in a theoretical paper by Vreman, Van Lare, and Hounslow （2009） based on a single zone model.

Production of composites with high relative permittivity using the spouted bed technique

This contribution presents a new application of the spouted bed technique. The developed production process involves coating fine copper particles with a polymer in a spouted bed plant and then hot pressing the produced granules to form a compact consisting of a copper–polymer composite with a high filling degree. The fabricated composites possess high relative permittivity, which is advantageous for the production of effective capacitors. With increasing filling degree of copper, the relative permittivity of the composites increased, with a maximum relative permittivity of 214 obtained for the composite containing 78.1 vol% copper. such a high filling degree can be achieved with conductive particles without obtaining a conductive composite by using the spouted bed technology in the production process. The high relative permittivity results from the high filling degree of particles isolated by a polymer coating.
