Six-year outcomes in neovascular age-related macular degeneration with ranibizumab

AIm： To evaluate the outcomes of （6y ranibizumab therapy in neovascular age-related macular degeneration （AmD）.mETHODS： HELIX was a retrospective, observational effectiveness study using medical records of patients treated in three clinics in Belgium. Patients had neovascular AmD and were initially treated with intravitreal ranibizumab （0.5 mg） between November 1, 2007 and October 31, 2008, had （6y of data available, and were treated on an ongoing, as-needed basis. Outcomes included best-corrected visual acuity （BCVA） and central retinal thickness （CRT）.RESULTS： The sample consisted of 88 eyes from 69 patients. mean age was 76.4±6.5y, most patients were female （62.3%）. most eyes （62.5%） were treatment-naive, 33 previously treated eyes had received predominantly other anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents and verteporfin. mean baseline BCVA was 57.4±12.7 ETDRS letters and CRT was 291.5±86.1 （m. On average, patients received 20.6±11.9 ranibizumab injections over the （6y. Intervals between injections were on average 12.7±16.1wk. mean change in BCVA from baseline to last observation for the sample was less than one letter （-0.9±17.3 letters）, with an average loss of -3.2±15.6 letters in previously treated eyes versus a gain of 0.6±18.4 letters in treatment-na？ve eyes. When considering a loss of 〈15 letters over 6y as stabilization of disease, 75.9% of all eyes showed a positive （improvement or stabilization） outcome. mean change in CRT from baseline to last observation for the sample was -26.9±148.4 （m with the greatest reduction observed in treatment-naive ***： This retrospective study of 69 neovascular AmD patients treated for （6y with ranibizumab demonstrates long-term visual stabilization. In light of the natural evolution of the disease, these data confirm that ranibizumab is effective long-term under real-world conditions of heterogeneity of patients, clinicians, and centers.

The Tour de Ski(TDS:6-9 sprint and distance races across 9-11 days)represents the most intense competition series of the cross-country(XC)ski season and is characterized by accumulated stress from consecutive days of high-intensity(~85%-160% VO_(2max))racing,travel,cold temperatures and low to moderate altitude(500-1500 m above sea level).Here,nutritional strategies play a key supportive role for optimized health,recovery and *** narrative review aims to provide an evidence-based discussion on the energetic demands of the TDS and recommendations for nutritional strate-gies to optimize health and performance of XC skiers during and following the *** highlight several challenges that may arise during the TDS,including the following:poor energy availability(EA)due to decreased appetite or a pressure to maintain a low body weight,suboptimal carbohydrate availability due to a failure to replenish muscle glycogen stores across consecutive-day racing and increased risk of illness due to a combination of factors,including high-intensity racing,poor nutrition,sleep,travel and *** encourage XC skiers to maintain optimal overall EA across the~1.5-week period,ensure high daily carbohydrate availability,as well as the use of strategies to maintain a healthy immune *** addition,we include practical guidelines on the management of nutrition support prior to and during the *** recognize that many nutritional questions remain unanswered both in the context of elite XC ski racing and specifically for extreme demands like the TDS that should be addressed in future investigations.

magnesium-ion-conducting solid polymer electrolytes have been studied for rechargeable mg metal batteries,one of the beyond-Li-ion *** this paper,magnesium polymer electrolytes with magnesium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide(mg(TFSI)2)salt in poly(ε-caprolactone-co-trimethylene carbonate)(PCL-PTmC)were investigated and compared with the poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)*** thermal properties and vibrational spectroscopy indicated that the total ion conduction in the PEO electrolytes was dominated by the anion conduction due to strong polymer coordination with fully dissociated mg2+.On the other hand,in PCL-PTmC electrolytes,there is relatively weaker polymer–cation coordination and increased anion–cation *** mg-and F-rich particles were observed on the Cu electrodes after polarization tests in Cu|mg cells with PCL-PTmC electrolyte,suggesting that mg was conducted in the ion complex form(mgxTFSIy)to the copper working electrode to be reduced which resulted in anion ***,the mg metal deposition/stripping was not favorable with either mg(TFSI)2 in PCL-PTmC or mg(TFSI)2 in PEO,which inhibited quantitative analysis of magnesium conduction.A remaining challenge is thus to accurately assess transport numbers in these systems.

New tidal debris nearby the Sagittarius leading tail from the LAmOST DR2 m giant stars

We report two new sets of tidal debris nearby the Sagittarius （Sgr） tidal stream in the north Galactic cap （NGC） identified from the m giant stars in LAmOST DR2. The m giant stars located in the sky area of 210° 〈 A 〈 290°, and having a distance of 10-20 kpc and We/HI 〈 -0.75 show clear bimodality in their velocity distribution. We denote the two peaks as Vel-3＋83 for the one within a mean velocity of -3 km s^-1 with respect to that of the well observed Sgr leading tail at the same A and Ve1＋162＋26 for the other one with a mean velocity of 162km s^-1 with respect to the Sgr leading tail. Although the projected A-Vgsr relation of Vel-3＋83 is very similar to the Sgr leading tail, the opposite trend in the A-distance relation as compared to the Sgr leading tail suggests Vel-3＋83 has a different 3D direction of motion with any branch of the simulated Sgr tidal stream from Law ＆ majewski. Therefore, we propose it is new tidal debris not related to the Sgr stream. Similarly, the other substructure Vel＋162＋26, which is the same one as the NGC group discovered by Chou et al., also moves toward a different direction with respect to the Sgr stream, implying that it may have a different origin than the Sgr tidal stream.

In a number of renal disease tubular epithelial cells often display hypertrophy rather than hyperplasia. This hypertrophy, characterized by an increase in protein conten and cell size, as well as an accumulation of extracellular matrix, is a key process which may lead subsequently to tubulointerstitial fibrosis and end-stage renal failure.

Low-Cost Data Acquisition Systems for Photovoltaic System monitoring and Usage Statistics

This paper presents the design of a low-cost DAS （data acquisition system） for monitoring a PV （photovoltaic） system＇s electrical quantities, battery temperatures, and state of charge of the battery. The electrical quantities are the voltages and currents of the solar panels, the battery, and the system loads. The system uses an Atmega328p microcontroller to acquire data from the PV system＇s charge controller. It also records individual load information using current sensing resistors along with a voltage amplification circuit and an analog to digital converter. The system is used in conjunction with a wall power DAS for the recording of regional power outages. Both DASs record data in microSD cards. The data have been successfully acquired from both systems and have been used to monitor the status of the PV system and the local power grid. As more data are gathered, it can be used for the maintenance and improvement of the PV system through analysis of the PV system＇s parameters and usage statistics.

使用环境颗粒物分析仪(GRImm180)对成都市2018年10月-2019年9月0.25~32μm的大气颗粒物数浓度粒径分布进行观测,结合细颗粒物(Pm2.5)质量浓度以及相对湿度(RH)、能见度、降水量等气象要素数据,分析了成都市大气颗粒物粒径分布及其与能见度的关系.结果表明,观测期间成都市大气颗粒物以细粒子为主,0.25~0.5μm的粒子数浓度占总数浓度的97.75%,数浓度谱呈单峰分布,2018年秋季、2019年夏季表面积谱呈双峰分布,2018年冬季、2019年春季表面积谱呈三峰,体积谱均为三峰分布;在不同RH区间,Pm2.5质量浓度及数浓度均与能见度呈负相关,且其中0.25~0.5μm粒径段的细颗粒物因为对可见光波段的米散射效应而对能见度产生较大影响;在不同RH情况下,不同粒径段颗粒物数浓度对能见度的影响程度有所差别:在低RH(m粒径段粒子数浓度对能见度影响最大;在中等RH(70%~80%)下,0.3~0.5μm粒径段粒子数浓度对能见度的影响最大;而在高RH(>80%)下,0.3~0.5μm和0.5~1μm粒径段粒子数浓度对能见度影响相当.

Impact of management Practices on Water Extractable Organic Carbon and Nitrogen from 12-Year Poultry Litter Amended Soils

Water extractable organic carbon (WEOC) and nitrogen (WEON) are two key parameters of soil water extractable organic matter (WEOm). Proper management of manure application rate in combination with tillage and cropping management could maintain appropriate WEOC and WEON concentrations in soils while decreasing the risk of their runoff from cropland and pastures. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of poultry litter (PL) application on WEOC and WEON in soils under different crops, tillage regimes, and grazing strategies. From 2001 to 2012, PL was applied at multiple rates to cultivated fields in a corn-oat/wheat-hay rotation or to pastures grazed by cattle or ungrazed. Soil samples (0 - 15 cm) were analyzed for KCl-extractable mineral N, and WEOC, and WEON contents. In addition, Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and fluorescence spectroscopies were used to characterize WEOC stability. Organic N levels were higher at the high PL application rates. The soil C:N ratio narrowed as the PL application rate increased. However, the soil from pastures which received PL tended to have a wider range of C:N ratios than soil from the cultivated fields, despite identical PL application rates. The spectral analyses indicated that WEOC properties were responsive to management and PL application rate;therefore, this parameter may be used as a guide to provide best management strategy for manure application.
