Clusterin, a protein associated with multiple functions, is expressed in a wide variety of mammalian tissues. Although clusterin is known to be involved in neurodegenerative diseases, ageing, and tumorigenesis, a detailed analysis of the consequences of gain- or loss-of- function approaches has yet to be performed to understand the underlying mechanisms of clusterin functions. Since clusterin levels change in neurological diseases, it is likely that clusterin contributes to cell death and degeneration in general. Zebrafish was investigated as a model system to study human diseases. During development, zebrafish clusterin was expressed in the notochord and nervous system. Embryonic overexpression of clusterin by mRNA microinjection did not affect axis formation, whereas its knock-down by anti-sense morpholino treatment resulted in neuronal cell death. To analyze the function of clusterin in neurodegeneration, a transgenic zebrafish was investigated, in which nitroreductase expression is regulated under the control of a neuron-specifc huC promoter which is active between the stages of early neuronal precursors and mature neurons. Nitroreductase turns metronidazole into a cytotoxic agent that induces cell death within 12 h. After metronidazole treatment, transgenic zebrafish showed neuron-specific cell death. Interestingly, we also observed a dramatic induction of clusterin expression in the brain and spinal cord in these fish, suggesting a direct or indirect role of clusterin in neuronal cell death and thus, more generally, in neurodegeneration.

We report a simple one-step approach for the synthesis of -4 nm uniform and fully L10-ordered face-centered tetragonal （fct） FePt nanoparticles （NPs） embedded in -60 nm MCM-41 （fct-FePt NPs@MCM-41）. We controlled the Pt-shell thickness of the fct-FePt NPs by treating the fct-FePt NPs@MCM-41 with acetic acid （HOAc） or hydrochloric acid （HC1） under sonicafion, thereby etching the surface Fe atoms of the NPs. The fct-FePt NPs deposited onto the carbon support （fct-FePt NP/C） were prepared by mixing the fct-FePt NPs@MCM-41 with carbon and subsequently removing the MCM-41 using NaOH. We also developed a facile method to synthesize acid-treated fct-FePt NP/C by using a HF solution for simultaneous surface-Fe etching and MCM-41 removal. We studied the effects of both surface-Fe etching and Pt-shell thickness on the electrocatalytic properties of fct-FePt NPs for the methanol oxidation reaction （MOR）. Compared with the non-treated fct-FePt NP/C catalyst, the HOAc-treated and HCl-treated catalysts exhibit up to 34% larger electrochemically active surface areas （ECASAs）; in addition, the HCl-treated fct-FePt NP （with -1.0 nm Pt shell）/C catalyst exhibits the highest specific activity. The HF-treated fct-FePt NP/C exhibits an ECASA almost 2 times larger than those of the other acid-treated fct-FePt NP/C catalysts and shows the highest mass activity （1,435 mA·mgPt^-1, 2.3 times higher than that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst） and stability among the catalysts tested. Our findings demonstrate that the surface-Fe etching for the generation of the Pt shell on fct-FePt NPs and the Pt-shell thickness can be factors for optimizing the electrocatalysis of the MOR.

Objectives:This study was conducted to investigate the current status of handoffs,perception of patient safety culture,and degrees of handoff evaluation in small and medium-sized hospitals and identified factors that make a difference in handoff ***:This is a descriptive study.425 nurses who work at small and medium-sized hospitals in South Korea were included in our *** completed a set of self-reporting questionnaires that evaluated demographic data,handoff-related characteristics,perception of patient safety culture,and handoff ***:Results showed that the overall score of awareness of a patient safety culture was 3.65±0.45,the level was *** score of handoff evaluation was 5.24±*** nurses experienced errors in handoff and most nurses had no guidelines and checklist in the *** evaluation differed significantly according to the level of education,work patterns,duration of hospital employment,handoff method,degree of satisfaction with the current handoff method,errors occurring at the time of handoff,handoff guidelines,and appropriateness of handoff education time(P<0.05).Conclusion:For handoff improvement,guidelines and standards should be *** is necessary to develop a structured handoff education *** formal handoff education should be implemented to spread knowledge uniformly.

AIM:To evaluate diagnostic value ofα-fetoprotein (AFP)-L3 and prothrombin induced by vitamin K absence-Ⅱ(PIVKA-Ⅱ)in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).
