Effluent organic matter （EfOM） is the major cause of fouling in the low pressure membranes process for wastewater reuse. Coagulation and oxidation of biological wastewater treatment effluent have been applied for the fouling control of microfiltration membranes. However, the change in EfOM structure by pre-treatments has not been clearly identified. The changes of EfOM characteristics induced by coagulation and ozonation were investigated through size exclusion chromatography, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry and titrimetric analysis to identify the mechanisms in the reduction of ultrafiltration （UF） membrane fouling. The results indicated that reduction of flux decline by coagulation was due to modified characteristics of dissolved organic carbon （DOC） content. Total concentration of DOC was not reduced by ozonation. However, the mass fraction of the molecules with molecular weight larger than 5 kDa, fluorescence intensity, aromaticity, highly condensed chromophores, average molecular weight and soluble microbial byproducts decreased greatly after ozonation. These results indicated that EfOM was partially oxidized by ozonation to low molecular weight, highly charged compounds with abundant electron- withdrawing functional groups, which are favourable for alleviating UF membrane flux decline.

Synthesis and Characterization of Fluoro- and Chloro-bimetallic Alkoxides as Precursors for Luminescent Metal Oxide Materials via Sol-Gel Technique

Heterobimetallic alkoxides are broadly recognized as versatile precursors for luminescence materials, and efforts are being made to develop novel routes by applying the concept of geometrical molecular design, for their synthesis and to design a single source precursor suited to photoluminescent materials. Novel and new series of bimetallic alkoxides has been prepared by metathesis route. They exhibit a lower sensitivity towards hydrolysis and so they are easier to handle as compared to other alkoxides. All the compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopies. FT-IR revealed that the molecular structure of these metal alkoxides was retained to a large extent in 4 ： 1 halogenated alcohol-benzene solution. The heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy provided useful information about chemical shifts for better understanding the likely structure based on interactions with their coordinate metals. The mass spectra show similar types of fragmentation pattern. SEM-EDS analyses showed consistency with the formulation. XRD patterns show an enhanced homogeneity at high temperature. TGA measurements show that thermal decomposition occured in steps that depended entirely on the chemical compositions and the synthesis routes. SEM observation reveals that the morphology and particle size strongly depend on synthesis routes for their precursors.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of bovine coronavirus(BCo V), bovine rotavirus, and bovine viral diarrhea virus in the feces of normal and diarrheic Korean native calves aged 1-81 days between April and October of 2016 in the Republic of Korea. Methods: Samples were obtained from 50 normal and 93 diarrheic(56 semi-formed, 28 loose, and 9 watery feces) calves in six different regions of northern and southern Korea. These fecal samples were tested for BCo V, bovine rotavirus, and bovine viral diarrhea virus by RT-PCR. Results: Among the three pathogens examined, infection with BCo V was especially prominent in relation to diarrhea among calves aged 1-21 days [odds ratio(OR)=9.3, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.1-78.9; P=0.02). Infection with BCo V alone(OR=2.9; 95% CI: 1.1-7.6; P=0.03) or coinfection of BCo V with bovine viral diarrhea virus(OR=3.6; 95% CI: 1.0-12.4; P=0.04) was significantly associated with the development of loose feces. Grazing and colostrum intake strongly reduced the occurrence of diarrhea as compared to housed calves(OR=0.2; 95% CI: 0.1-0.4; P=0.00) and calves that had not been fed colostrum(OR=0.2; 95% CI: 0.1-0.7; P=0.02), respectively. Conclusions: The present study suggests that BCo V is involved in calf diarrhea in the Republic of Korea. Therefore, grazing and colostrum intake is recommended for preventing and controlling calf diarrhea caused by BCoV.

AIM:To identify factors affecting early local recurrence after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)and investigate treatments and outcomes for local ***:Early local recurrence and no early local recurrence groups drawn from 134 patients who were initially diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and showed a complete response(CR)to TACE treatment between January 1,2006,and January 31,2012,were analyzed by univariate and multivariate ***,the subsequent treatment for patients with recurrence was analyzed,and in cases in which TACE had been performed,the cumulative recurrence rates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with those of the primary ***:The 1-,2-,and 3-year survival rates were92.3%,60.2%,and 39.8%,respectively,in the earlylocal recurrence group,which were significantly lower than those in both the late local and no local recurrence groups(P20 ng/mL after achieving a CR were significant *** TACE was performed for early and late locally recurrent lesions,a CR was observed in 15 patients(41.7%)and 11 patients(78.6%),and the cumulative recurrence rates at 6,12,and 24mo were 17.9%,43.3%,and 71.2%,respectively,which did not differ significantly from those after the first CR of 20.5%,44.0%,and 58.6%,respectively(P=0.639).CONCLUSION:Closer monitoring and active treatments must be provided to patients with risk factors for early local recurrence of HCC.

Risk stratification for disease progression in pT3 prostate cancer after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy

The aim of this study is to identify optimal patients for adjuvant radiation therapy （ART） in pT3 prostate cancer. The role of ART for patients with adverse pathologic features after radical prostatectomy （RP） has been demonstrated, but over- or under-treatment remains a significant concern. Two-hundred and five patients with pT3NOMO who underwent robot-assisted RP without ART were analyzed. Multivariate Cox proportional regression analyses were used to identify predictors of biochemical recurrence （BCR） and clinical progression （CP）. The estimated 5-year BCR-free survival （BCRFS） and CP-free survival （CPFS） were 52.8% and 85.6%, respectively. Preoperative prostate-specifc antigen （PSA）：〉10 ng m1-1 （hazard ratio [HR]： 3.288-6.027; P = 0.003）, pathologic Gleason score （pGS）：〉8 （HR： 4.146; P = 0.014）, and lymphovascular invasion （LVI）（HR： 2.167; P = 0.026） were associated with BCR. Based on these factors, a risk stratification tool was developed. Patients with no risk factors （PSA 〈10 ng m1-1, pGS 6, and absent LVI） showed excellent BCRFS and CPFS at 5 years （91.9% and 100.0%, respectively）, but those with two or more risk factors （PSA ：〉10 ng ml-1, pGS ≥8, or present LVI） had poor BCRFS and CPFS （12.1% and 54.6%, respectively）. In addition, the multivariate analysis revealed that pathologic stage pT3b （HR： 5.393; P = 0.025） was the only predictor of CP. Our study demonstrated the heterogeneity of oncologic outcomes in patients with pT3 prostate cancer. The proposed risk stratification can be used to identify patients who are at risk for disease progression and may aid in identifying the best patients for ART.

Missing values occur in bio-signal processing for various reasons,including technical problems or biological *** missing values are then either simply excluded or substituted with estimated values for further *** the missing signal values are estimated for electroencephalography (EEG) signals,an example where electrical signals arrive quickly and successively,rapid processing of high-speed data is required for immediate decision *** this study,we propose an incremental expectation maximization principal component analysis (iEMPCA) method that automatically estimates missing values from multivariable EEG time series data without requiring a whole and complete data *** proposed method solves the problem of a biased model,which inevitably results from simply removing incomplete data rather than estimating them,and thus reduces the loss of information by incorporating missing values in real *** using an incremental approach,the proposed method alsominimizes memory usage and processing time of continuously arriving *** results show that the proposed method assigns more accurate missing values than previous methods.

A genetic algorithm was used to optimize the parameters of the two-dimensional Storm Surge/Tide Operational Model （STORM） to improve sea level *** genetic algorithm was applied to nine typhoons that affected the Korean Peninsula during *** following model parameters were used：the bottom drag coefficient,the background horizontal diffusivity,Smagorinski＇s horizontal viscosity,and the sea level pressure ***,the simulation results using the optimized,mean,and median parameter values improved sea level *** four estimated parameters improved the sea level prediction by 76% and 54% in the bias and root mean square error for Typhoon Kalmaegi （0807） in 2008,***-month simulations of February and August 2008 were also improved using the estimated *** study demonstrates that parameter optimization on STORM can improve sea level prediction.

The denitdfication and P-removal in the sorption-denitrification-P-removal （S-DN-P） process were carded out under various wastewater compositions. It is noted that P-removal largely depends on the wastewater composition as well to the quantity of the substrates present in wastewater fraction. Three different wastewater fractions are obtained as： raw wastewater, dissolved wastewater （obtained with filtration using 0.45 μm filter）, and undissolved wastewater （i.e., infiltrate obtained by above filtration）. The ratio of P-release/CODtotal-consumption clearly inferred that undissolved wastewater possess very low value i.e., 0.0008 followed by raw wastewater 0.008 and dissolved wastewater 0.03. When this ratio was nearby 0.01, enhanced P-removal was observed. Moreover, the ratio of P-uptake to NO3^--N decomposition for raw wastewater was two times for dissolved wastewater. Interestingly, it was observed that the P-removal and denitrification depend not only on the dissolved substrates but also the undissolved substrates present in the wastewater. The result of the P-removal obtained with this S-DN-P process did not show a big difference of 36%, 34% and 30%, respectively, for raw, dissolved and undissolved wastewater.

Recently there has been great progress in laser-driven plasma-based accelerators by exploiting high-power lasers,where electron beams can be accelerated to multi-GeV energy in a centimeter-scale plasma due to the laser wakefield acceleration mechanism. While, to date, worldwide research on laser plasma accelerators has been focused on the creation of compact particle and radiation sources for basic sciences, medical and industrial applications, there is great interest in applications for high-energy physics and astrophysics, exploring unprecedented high-energy frontier phenomena. In this context, we present an overview of experimental achievements in laser plasma acceleration from the perspective of the production of GeV-level electron beams, and deduce the scaling formulas capable of predicting experimental results self-consistently, taking into account the propagation of a relativistic laser pulse through plasma and the accelerating field reduction due to beam loading. Finally, we present design examples for 10-GeV-level laser plasma acceleration, which is expected in near-term experiments by means of petawatt-class lasers.
