The milk thistle plant is one of the famous plants that have been gaining popularity for its therapeutic potential for centuries. milk thistle seed oil (mTSO) has been subjected to extensive research. The fixed oil was extracted from the seeds of Silybum marianum (L.) using petroleum ether as a solvent by a soxhlet device. GC-mS was used to identify the chemical composition of the oil. The antioxidant activity of mTSO was tested by the ABTS method, which showed the ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation. In addition, antimicrobial and antifungal investigations were examined. It proved that mTSO has an inhibitory effect against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli), and antifungal effects (Candida albicans). mTSO has a slightly higher effectiveness against fungi than bacteria. moreover, the cytotoxic activities of the oil on hepatocellular and colorectal carcinoma were examined. mTSO has shown a moderate cytotoxic effect on the HCT-116 cell line and a weak effect on HePG-2. Whereas;in vivo study has been done on five diagnosed patients who have impaired liver function, and were recruited for the study. Their weight ranged from 100 ± 30 kg, their age range was between 39 - 50 years. Each patient was given ten drops of mTSO daily and added to a little water for a four-week study period. mTSO has effects to improve the function of the injured liver. The present work aims to study milk thistle seed oil, for estimating its pharmacological properties for the liver. This study focused on showing the importance of milk thistle seed oil in our lives as a source of antioxidants, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and as an anti-cancer of the liver and colon. It also sheds light on its importance as a treatment for impaired liver, function and fatty liver, due to its improvement in all liver function markers, so it can be hired as an effective human therapy.

Field an experiment was carried out in the farms of Agriculture and forestry academy at University in Nineveh. The research was conducted to investigate a practical study for the effect of four forward speeds (1.9, 2.6, 3.8 and 4.7 km/hr.) and three acceleration direction of axes lateral, longitudinal and vertical, and two types machines control (mower and Rotovators) on the vibrations transferred to the steering wheel horticulture tractor type (Goldoni). The vibration points on the handgrip were calculated and tested. Root mean square acceleration (RmS), given in m/sec2, was calculated. Results showed increased acceleration vibration of the three directions (longitudinal, lateral and vertical) transferred to the steering wheel tractor by increased forward speed. The mower score recorded the highest acceleration vibration for the three directions of Rotovators. The levels of vibration emitted from tractor to hand an operator during the experiment was high comparing with standard mechanical vibration. Handgrip vibration intensity in the vertical direction is bigger than the lateral and longitudinal direction. The total vibration evaluating was denoted as the square root mean of the three sum value (lateral, longitudinal and vertical) directions. The paper purpose was measuring and analyzing vibration level transferred to the steering wheel and reduces the machine vibration. This paper is helpful for design in order to increase the develop safety systems in easy and economical way.

A series of Pb1-xNixTiO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5) were prepared by the general ceramic and co-precipitation method. The grain size decreased with increasing Ni contents. The piezoelectric modulus d33 increased with increasing Ni contents. It was observed also the d33 of the nanocomposite Pb1-xNixTiO3 prepared by co-precipitation method is higher than those of the prepared by general ceramic method. The coupling factor kp increased by the more doping of Ni. The ultrasonic wave velocity decreased also with increasing Ni contents. The polarized nano-sample of composition Pb0.5Ni0.5TiO3 is suitable for improving application of useful piezoelectric technology.

Ribbons with the composition Al-1.5Cu-9.5Zn-3mg were prepared by melt spinning technique. microhardness and tensile strength were measured. The melt spun hardness and ultimate tensile strength values were as high as 291 HV and 660 mN/m2, respectively. Hardness values are relaxed to lower values on prolonged thermal annealing to around 50%. X-ray diffraction lines corresponding to Cu, Zn and mg were disappeared for the as melt spun ribbons, which indicates a complete solubility of these element in Al matrix. On prolonged thermal annealing these alloying elements were precipitated.

In this work, an experimental approach was used for measuring birefringence of thermotropic liquid crystal materials at different wavelengths in the visible region by using speckle interferometry. Also the values of the refractive indices were measured for these thermotropic liquid crystal materials in isotropic and liquid crystal phases at different wave-lengths. Temperature dependency of the refractive indices for each LC sample at certain wavelengths was investigated in the isotropic and in LC phases.

The development of new and effective antitumor agents is one of the main goals of medicinal and biochemical research at present. The present study is concerned with the evaluation of the previously synthesized N-Butylpyridoquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide (NBPQD) as an antitumor agent against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC). The first part of the study (tumor imaging) was to investigate the biodistribution of NBPQD in the organs of EAC-bearing mice using iodine-125 isotope stressing on its distribution in the main organs (stomach, liver, spleen, kidney) in addition to blood and ascetic fluid. The second part was the assessment of the antitumor activity of NBPQD by estimating the tumor volume and the contents of total protein, total lipid, DNA and RNA in liver tissues. In addition, liver function tests and the redox status were assessed. Tumor volume and DNA, RNA, urea and malondialdehyde (mDA) levels and the liver enzymes activity were highly significantly increased (P mice compared to control. However, total lipid and total protein in liver tissues in addition to serum albumin, glucose, reduced glutathione (GSH) as well as activities of glutathione reductase (GSH-R) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) all were highly significantly decreased in untreated EAC-bearing mice compared to controls. All these decreased parameters were highly significantly restored to their normal levels in NBPQD treated mice compared to the untreated EAC-bearing mice. The survival time of the NBPQD treated mice was longer than that of the untreated ones. It is thus, evident that NBPQD had a remarkable antitumor activity against EAC in Swiss albino mice.

Poly （methyl methacrylate） is widely used as denture base material. During fabrication of a denture, the physical and mechanical properties are influenced by cure condition. Each cure cycle or fabrication technique is attempts to optimize the properties for a given application. The aim of this study was to compare two types of commercially available denture base materials （heat-cure and self-cure） in their mechanical properties. The samples were prepared according to the daily routine work for sample preparation in dental laboratories. After reaching dough stage the mix packed into dumbbell shaped of stainless steel mould and pressed in a hydraulic bench press for 25 mins at room temperature. For heat cure the polymerization cycle was carried out using water bath, while self cure was done at room temperature. The impact strength was evaluated using Charpy impact test. The hardness test was conducted using a calibrated Vickers hardness tester machine. The lowest impact strength was observed in self-cure denture base material （self cure material 6.2 kJ/m^2 while heat cure 12.69 kJ/m^2. It appears that the tendency of heat cure to fracture was lower than self-cure denture base materials. Heat cure denture base material has significantly higher hardness test values than self-cure denture base material. The observed VHN value of the heat-cure was 20.09 g/mm^2 while the self-cure value was 12.7 g/mm^2. This is may be due to the plasticizer effect of residual monomer which was higher in self curing material as reported in previous work. Generally, the heat cure material showed better properties compared to self cure material.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is an important risk factor for erectile dysfunction. Renin-angiotensin system with its branches Angiotensin II and Angiotensin 1-7 [Ang-(1-7)] are altered in diabetes and could affect erection. So, in this study we determine the level of Ang-(1-7), nitrite (the major nitric oxide metabolite) and histopathological changes in penile tissues of type I diabetic rats. A total of 60 male albino rats were divided into two groups: group I (control) and group II (diabetic) for either 4 weeks in group IIa, or 8 weeks in group IIb. Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg). Penile levels of Ang-(1-7), nitrite and histopathological examination were assessed at 4 and 8 weeks after diabetes induction. Results: Ang-(1-7) and nitrite were decreased in diabetic rats at 4 weeks and continued to be lower at 8 weeks for Ang-(1-7) only. Loss of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle was present in 25% and 85% of rats at 4 and 8 weeks of diabetes respectively (P Conclusion: Diabetes induced progressive decrease in the release of Ang-(1-7) and nitric oxide from the corpora cavernosa in a time-dependent manner with concomitant fibro-muscular changes that end by corporal fibrosis affecting subsequently erectile functions.
