The efective removal of the heat generated during mechanical cutting processes is crucial to enhancing tool life and produc-ing workpieces with superior surface *** internal cooling systems used in cutting inserts employ a liquid water-based solvent as the primary medium to transport the excess thermal energy generated during the cutting *** limitations of this approach are the low thermal conductivity of water and the need for a mechanical input to circulate the coolant around the inner chamber of the cutting *** this context,this paper proposes an alternative method in which liquid gallium is used as the coolant in combination with a magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)pump,which avoids the need for an external power *** computational fuid dynamics,we created a numerical model of an internal cooling system and then solved it under conditions in which a magnetic feld was applied to the liquid *** was followed by a simulation study performed to evaluate the efectiveness of liquid gallium over liquid *** results of experiments conducted under non-cooling and liquid gallium cooling conditions were analyzed and compared in terms of the tool wear *** results showed that after six machining cycles at a cutting speed Vc=250 m min−1,the corner wear VBc rate was 75µm with the coolant of and 48µm with the MHD-based coolant on,representing a decrease of 36%in tool *** Vc=900 m min−1,the corner wear VBc rate was 75µm with the coolant of and 246µm with the MHD-based coolant on,representing a decrease of 31%in tool *** external cooling using liquid water was added,the results showed at Vc=250 m min−1,the diference between the tool wear rate reduction with the internal liquid gallium coolant relative to the external coolant was 29%.When the cutting speed was increased to Vc=900 m min−1,the diference observed between the internal liquid gallium coolant relative to the external coolant was 16%.The study proves the feasibility of using liqu

The outcome of the Apollo lunar exploration program 1969—1974 was a model of lunar petrogenesis which ignored the probability of selective volatilisation of gases and alkalis from fire-fountaining lunar basalts. It overlooked the fact that the average compositions of the erupted basalts were those of plagioclase-saturated and low-pressure cotectic liquids on eruption, clearly indicating that they were not primary magmas. The basalts may have undergone evolution by gabbro fractionation within the lu- nar crust, perhaps in large lava lakes now solidified as the lunar maria. The existing model involving a global magma ocean and plagioclase flotation to form the lunar crust arises solely from the incorrect assumption that the basalts are primary magmas. The plagioclase flotation hypothesis re- quires the presence of a significant positive europium anom- aly in the lunar highland crust, and was founded upon its alleged presence. However, that positive anomaly is neither established by the original data set nor by the much broader current data set. Critical observations, and experiments which will advance the debate are suggested, and alternative interpretations outlined.

Plant growth and development are tightly controlled in response to environmental conditions that influence the availability of photosynthetic carbon in the form of sucrose. Trehalose-6-phosphate （T6P）, the precursor of trehalose in the biosynthetic pathway, is an important signaling metabolite that is involved in the regulation of plant growth and development in response to carbon availability. In addition to the plant＇s own pathway for trehalose synthesis, formation of T6P or trehalose by pathogens can result in the reprogramming of plant metabolism and development. Developmental processes that are regulated by T6P range from embryo development to leaf senescence. Some of these processes are regulated in interaction with phytohormones, such as auxin. A key interacting factor of T6P signaling in response to the environment is the protein kinase sucrose non-fermenting related kinase-1 （SnRK1）, whose catalytic activity is inhibited by T6R SnRK1 is most likely involved in the adjustment of metabolism and growth in response to starvation. The transcription factor bZlP11 has recently been identified as a new player in the T6P/SnRK1 regulatory pathway. By inhibiting SnRK1, T6P promotes biosynthetic reactions. This regulation has important consequences for crop production, for example, in the developing wheat grain and during the growth of potato tubers.

The first record of ophioleila elegans (Echinodermata:ophiuroidea) from a deep-sea seamount in the Northwest Pacific ocean

The rare ophiuroid species, ophioleila elegans, was collected by the submersible Jiaolongfrom 1 660 m depth on the Caiwei Guyot located in the Magellan Seamount Chain in the Northwest Pacific ocean. This is the first published record of this species since the types were described from similar habitat off Hawaii. We provide more detailed morphologic characteristics of arm skeleton and a phylogenetic analysis based on Co 1 sequences. Both morphology and phylogeny results suggest that the genus ophioleila is more closely related to ophiactids than Hemieuryalids.

Virus-induced gene silencing （VIGS） has been shown to be effective for transient knockdown of gene expression in plants to analyze the effects of specific genes in development and stress-related responses. VlGS is well established for studies of model systems and crops within the Solanaceae, Brassicaceae, Leguminaceae, and Poaceae, but only recently has been applied to plants residing outside these families. Here, we have demonstrated that barley stripe mosaic virus （BSMV） can infect two species within the Zingiberaceae, and that BSMV-VIGS can be applied to specifically down-regulate phytoene desaturase in the culinary ginger Zingiber officinale. These results suggest that extension of BSMV-VlGS to monocots other than cereals has the potential for directed genetic analyses of many important temperate and tropical crop species.
