Excisional hemorrhoidal surgery and its effect on anal continence

AIM:To investigate the role of anal cushions in hemorrhoidectomy and its effect on anal continence of the ***:Seventy-six consecutive patients(33 men and 43 women) with a mean age of 44 years were *** underwent Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy because of symptomatic third-and fourth-degree hemorrhoids and failure in conservative treatment for *** score was recorded and liquid continence test was performed for each patient before and two months after operation using the techniques described in our previous *** speed-constant rectal lavage apparatus was prepared in our *** device could output a pulsed and speed-constant saline stream with a high pressure,which is capable of overcoming any rectal resistance *** patients were divided into three groups,group A( 1200 mL) according to the results of the preoperative liquid continence ***:All the patients completed the *** average number of hemorrhoidal masses excised was *** patients presented with hemorrhoidal symptoms for more than one year,including a mean duration of incontinence of 5.2 *** most common symptoms before surgery were anal bleeding(n = 55),prolapsed lesion(n = 34),anal pain(n = 12) and constipation(n = 17).There were grade Ⅲ hemorrhoids in 39(51.3%) patients,and grade Ⅳ in 37(48.7%) patients according to Goligher *** patients had experienced hemorrhoid surgery at least *** with postoperative results,the retained volume in the preoperative liquid continence test was higher in 40 patients,lower in 27 patients,and similar in the other 9 *** overall preoperative retained volume in the liquid continence test was 1130.61 ± 78.35 mL,and postoperative volume was slightly decreased(991.27 ± 42.77 mL),but there was no significant difference(P = 0.057).Difference was significant in the test value before and after hemorrhoidectomy in group A(858.24 ± 32.01 mL v

Meisoindigotin has been demonstrated as a new type of cancer chemotherapeutic agent.N-^（11）C-meisoindigotin was synthesized by N-^（11）C-methyIation of the isoindigotin precursor with ^（11）C-labelled methyl *** decay corrected radiochemical yields were 15-25%,and the specific radioactivity was 1.0-1.2 Ci/μmol at the end of *** cellular uptake of[N-^（11）C]-meisoindigotin was evaluated in four different lung cancer cell *** results showed that the A549,GLC-82,95D cell lines exhibited higher uptake than 95C cell line after incubation for 60 min.N-^（11）-meisoindigotin was a promising candidate for further development as a novel PET radiotracer for imaging of cyclin-dependent kinases（CDKs） and GSK-3β.

Enzyme-Induced Carbonate Precipitation for the Protection of Earthen Dikes and Embankments Under Surface Runoff: Laboratory Investigations

Earthen structures such as shore protection dikes and river embankments easily suffer from erosion under surface water *** study made experimental efforts to explore the enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation(EICP)method for slope erosion control under surface runoff for earthen *** sandy soils were treated by the EICP method for various *** characteristics were evaluated by the surface penetration resistance,calcium carbonate content,and surface hard crust thickness of EICP-treated *** runoff erosion experiments were carried out to evaluate the erosion control performances of the EICP *** surface penetration resistance,calcium carbonate content,and surface hard crust thickness were found to significantly increase with the treatment *** the erosion experiments,it was observed that the level of damages decreased and the water flow volume required to trigger the damage increased with more *** increase in the soil slope angle led to more serious surface *** amount and rate that the soil particles were eroded from the slope surfaces declined with more EICP treatments,which was consistent with those of visual *** preliminary investigations presented in this study have shown the potential of the EICP method for slope erosion control under surface runoff for earthen structures.

Looking for High Energy Density Molecules in the Nitro-substituted Derivatives of Pyridazine

A series of derivatives of pyridazine were designed through substituting hydrogens on the pyridazine ring with nitro *** explore the thermal stability of the title molecules,heats of formation,bond dissociation energies,and bond orders were calculated at the B3PW91/6-311+G(d,p)*** confirm the potential usage as high energy density compounds,the detonation pressure and detonation velocity were predicted by using the empirical Kamlet-Jacobs(K-J)*** on our calculated results,both thermal and kinetic stabilities of the title molecules are confirmed with good detonation ***,3,4,5-trinitropyridazide and 3,4,6-trinitropyridazide represent excellent detonation parameters better than 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane(RDX)and are screened out as potential high energy density compounds.

Tetra-armed conjugated microporous polymers for gas adsorption and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Two novel tetra-armed conjugated microporous polymers with different geometries have been designed and synthesized via Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling polycondensation. Both polymers are stable in various organic solvents tested and are thermally stable. The pyrene-containing polymer of PrPy with the rigid pyrene unit shows a higher Brunauer-Emmet-Teller specific surface area of 1219m2g-1 than the tetraphenylethylene-containing polymer of PrTPE （770m2g 1）, which leads to a high CO2 uptake ability of 3.89mmolg I at 1.13bar/273K and a H2 uptake ability of 1.69wt% at 1.13bar/77K. The photocatalytic hydrogen production experiments revealed that PrPy also shows a better photocatalytic performance than PrTPE due to the higher conjugation degree and planar structure, the broader UV-visible （UV-Vis） absorption, the lower photoluminescence lifetime, and the higher specific surface area.

Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction(NO_(3)RR)offers a unique rationale for green NH_(3) synthesis,yet the lack of high-efficiency NO_(3)RR catalysts remains a great *** this work,we show that Au nanoclusters anchored on TiO_(2) nanosheets can efficiently catalyze the conversion of NO_(3)RR-to-NH_(3) under ambient conditions,achieving a maximal Faradic efficiency of 91%,a peak yield rate of 1923μg·h^(-1)·mgcat.-1,and high durability over 10 consecutive cycles,all of which are comparable to the recently reported metrics(including transition metal and noble metal-based catalysts)and exceed those of pristine TiO_(2).Moreover,a galvanic Zn-nitrate battery using the catalyst as the cathode was proposed,which shows a power density of 3.62 mW·cm^(-2) and a yield rate of 452μg·h^(-1)·mgcat.-*** simulations further indicate that the atomically dispersed Au clusters can promote the adsorption and activation of NO_(3)-species,and reduce the NO_(3)RR-to-NH_(3) barrier,thus leading to an accelerated cathodic *** work highlights the importance of metal clusters for the NH_(3) electrosynthesis and nitrate removal.

Investigation of feasibility of alkali-cosolvent flooding in heavy oil reservoirs

Cold production is a challenge in the case of heavy oil because of its high viscosity and poor fluidity in reservoir ***-cosolvent-polymer flooding is a type of microemulsion flooding with low costs and possible potential for heavy oil ***,the addition of polymer may cause problems with injection in the case of highly viscous ***,in this study the feasibility of alkali-cosolvent(AC)flooding in heavy oil reservoirs was investigated via several groups of *** interfacial tension between various AC formulations and heavy crude oil was measured to select appropriate *** behavior tests were performed to determine the most appropriate formulation and conditions for the generation of a *** flooding experiments were carried out to investigate the displacement efficiency of the selected Ac *** results showed that the interfacial tension between an AC formulation and heavy oil could be reduced to below 1o-3 mN/m but differed greatly between different types of cosolvent.A butanol random polyether series displayed good performance in reducing the water-oil interfacial tension,which made it possible to form a Type Il microemulsion in reservoir *** to the results of the phase behavior tests,the optimal salinity for different formulations with four cosolvent concentrations(0.5 wt%,1 wt%,2 wt%,and 3 wt%)was 4000,8000,14000,and 20000 ppm,*** results of rheological measurements showed that Type Ill microemulsion had a viscosity that was ten times that of *** results of sandpack flooding experiments showed that,in comparison with waterflooding,the injection of a certain Ac formulation slug could reduce the injection *** pressure gradient during waterflooding and AC flooding was around 870 and 30-57 kPa/m,*** the addition of an AC slug,the displacement efficiency was 30%-50%higher than in the case of waterflooding.

The development of cation-disordered rocksalt(DRX)cathodes has garnered worldwide attention due to their high capacity,broad chemical space and excellent structural ***,their low intrinsic Li-ion conductivity necessitates extensive particle pulverization,typically achieved through ball-milling process,which impedes large-scale *** this work,we present a proton-exchange assisted strategy to activate the Li-ion transport in Mn-based DRX ***-range spinel-like ordering is observed to form within the DRX matrix after the post treatment,which significantly enhances the intrinsic Li ion ***,more than 280 mAh g^(-1)discharge capacity can be delivered at a slow rate from micrometer-sized particles with an overall disordered cation arrangement,which retains more than150 m Ah g^(-1)when cycled at a very high rate of 2000 mA g^(-1).Furthermore,we also demonstrate that the electrochemical performance of the post-treated cathodes can be further optimized by fine-tuning the reaction parameters.

Phosphoinositide 3-Kinase/Akt and Nuclear Factor-κB Are Involved in Staphylococcus Aureus-induced Apoptosis in U937 Cells

Objective To explore the mechanisms involved in Staphylococcus aureus （S. aureus） invading human monocytic U937 cells. Methods S. aureus were added to U937 cells at multiplicity of infections （MOI） of 20：1 for 0, 15, 30, 60, and 90 minutes, respectively. Cell apoptosis was analyzed with Hoechst 33258 staining and Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate （FITC）/propidium iodide （PI） flow cytometry analysis. Akt and nuclear factor-κB （NF-κB） activities were detected by Western blotting. Results Infection of U937 cells with S. aureus induced rapid cell death in a time-dependent manner, and the cells displayed characteristic features of apoptosis. S. aureus-induced apoptosis was associated with a prominent downregulation of activated （phosphorylated） Akt and NF-κB. The inhibition of phosphorylated Akt by LY294002 led to the inhibition of NF-κB in a dose-dependent manner. Inhibition of Akt with LY294002 caused further increase in apoptosis of U937 cells. Conclusions S. aureus can stimulate the apoptosis of U937 ceils. S. aureus induces apoptosis of U937 cells by inhibiting Akt-regulated NF-κB.
