Correlation Analysis of Rubella Incidence and Meteorological Variables Based on Chinese Medicine Theory of Yunqi

Objective: To analyze the correlations between the incidence of rubella and meteorological factors over the same period and previous periods including 1, 2, 3 and 4 year ago(defined according to Chinese medicine Yunqi theory of "pestilence occurring after 3 years") and establish the rubella-meteorological forecast models for Beijing area, China. Methods: Data regarding the incidence of rubella between 1990 and 2004 from Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the meteorological variables including daily average temperatures, daily average wind speeds, average precipitations, average relative humidity, average vapor pressures and average low cloud covers between 1986 and 2004 were collected from the Beijing Meteorological Observatory. Descriptive statistics and back-propagation artificial neural network for forecast model’s establishment were adopted for data analysis. Results: The average temperature and relative humidity have a great contribution(100%) to the rubella morbidity. But the combination of other meteorological factors contributed to improve the accuracy of rubella-meteorological forecast models. The forecast accuracy could be improved by 76% through utilizing a combination of meteorological variables spanning from 3 years ago to the present rather than utilizing data from a single year or dating back to more earlier time than 3 years. Conclusions: There is a close relationship between the incidence of rubella and meteorological variables in current year and previous 3 years. This finding suggests that rubella prediction would benefit from consideration to previous climate changes.

Conjugation of Chitooligosaccharide-5-fluorouracil with Bovine Serum Albumin

The interaction between chitooligosaccharide-5-fluorouracil （COS-5FU） and bovine serum albumin （BSA） was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. It was found that an energy transfer between COS-5FU and BSA had been occurred. The binding constants were calculated, k298K=1.175×10^4 L·mol^-1. Based on the mechanism of energy transfer of dipole-dipole interaction between the donor and acceptor, the distance between BSA and COS-SFU was determined.

Operational Laboratory Methods for GDGTs Groups Separation

Glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(GDGTs), specific membrane lipids synthesized mainly by bacteria and archaea, can be divided into isoprenoids and methyl branched alkyl GDGTs(i GDGTs and brGDGTs, respectively). Three GDGTs groups(i GDGTs, brGDGTs, and other membrane lipids) in a peat sample were separated and collected in this study using semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and silica gel column chromatography. The obtained recoveries for the whole analytical procedure were 85% – 55% using semi-preparative HPLC and 70% – 20% using gel column chromatography. In addition, in each method, the recoveries of brGDGTs and iGDGTs were similar, regardless of the huge difference in their contents. High purity was found in the fractionated groups, determined based on ether cleavage and reduction. Moreover, the semi-preparative HPLC method could realize a better separation efficiency than the silica gel method, but it was time-consuming and required expensive equipment, while the silica gel chromatography method featured merits of time saving and convenient operation at the cost of a slight reduction in separation efficiency. The advantages of the silica gel method make it an operational laboratory method for batch experiments and isotopic studies.

Influence of γ-ray Irradiation on the PTC Effect of EPDM/Carbon Black Composite

The positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect is characterized by an increase of resistivity with an elevated temperature. The PTC effect of carbon black (CB) filled polymers is useful for self-regulation heaters, over-current protectors and sensors. The influence of γ-ray irradiation on the PTC effect of CB filled amorphous ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) composites is studied.

Sea surface temperature and terrestrial biomarker records of the last 260 ka of core MD05-2904 from the northern South China Sea

This paper reports high-resolution biomarker records of the last 260 ka for core MD05-2904 from the northern South China Sea (SCS). The sea surface temperature (SST) record using the U k3’7 index re-veals a minimum of 21.5℃ (MIS 2) and a maximum of 28.3℃ (MIS 5.5), for a temperature difference of almost 7℃, and provides the longest high-resolution U k3’7 SST record in northern SCS. The content of odd-number long chain n-alkanes and several n-alkanes indexes such as the CPI, ACL and the C31/C27 ratio, all reveal generally higher values during the glacials and lower values during the interglacials. Terrestrial input as indicated by n-alkane content was mostly controlled by sea-level changes: During the glacials, lower sea-level exposed the continental shelf to enable rivers to transport more terrestrial materials to the slope; and the situation reverses during the interglacials. The n-alkane indexes changes reveal more n-alkanes from contemporary vegetation during glacials as a result of the prox-imity of the core site to the source region, while the increases in ACL and C31/C27 ratio during glacials indicate a change to more grassy vegetation. However, the highest values for CPI, ACL and the C31/C27 ratio all occurred during late MIS 3, and it was suggested that this period was characterized by a strong summer monsoon-dominated humid climate which resulted in a denser vegetation for the exposed continental shelf region.

Realization of Perfect Teleportation with W-States in Cavity QED

We put forward an experimentally feasible protocol for realizing a perfect teleportation by using a class of W-state in QED. The simple way of generating the entangled channel and distinguishing the measurement bases is the distinct feature of our scheme. In addition, the probability of teleportation is up to 100%. The scheme can be implemented by the present cavity QED techniques.

Crystallographic and NMR studies on sterols from green alga Chaetomorpha basiretorsa Setchell

Chemical investigation of the ethanol extract of the marine green alga Chaetomorpha basiretorsa Setchell led to the isolation of a new sterol stigmast-4,28-dien-3α,6β-diol 1 in addition to the five known sterols of β-lawsaritol 2, saringosterol 3, 24-hydroperoxy-24-vinyl - cholesterol 4, β-stigmasterol 5, 29-hydroxystigmasta-5, 24 （28） -dien-3β-ol 6. Compounds were isolated by normal phase silica gel and Sephadex LH - 20 gel colum chromatography, reverse phase HPLC and recrystalization. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including MS, IR 1D/2D NMR and X-ray analysis. Cytotoxicity of compounds was screened by using the standard MTF method. All these compounds were isolated from the green alga Chaetomorpha basiretorsa Setchell for the first time and they were inactive （50% inhibitory concentration was greater than 10 μg/cm^3） against KB, Bel -7402, PC - 3M, Ketr 3 and MCF-7 cell lines.

High-Performance Sb-Doped GeTe Thermoelectric Thin Film and Device

GeTe-based materials have attracted significant attention as high-efficiency thermoelectric materials for mid-temperature ***,GeTe thin-film materials with thermoelectric performances comparable to that of their bulk counterparts have not yet been reported,because of their unsatisfactory electrical and thermal properties caused by their poor crystal quality and high carrier ***,a series of Sb-doped GeTe films and devices with remarkable thermoelectric performances are *** films are prepared through magnetron sputtering deposition at 553 K and exhibit a unique microstructure that consists of coarse-and fine-sized grains with high crystallization *** fine grains enhance the scattering associated with phonon transport and the coarse grains provide electron transport channels,which can suppress the thermal conductivity without obviously sacrificing the electrical ***,Sb doping can effectively optimize the carrier concentration and increase the carrier effective mass,while introducing point defects and stacking faults to further scatter the phonon transport and decrease the thermal ***,a peak power factor of 22.37μW cm−1 K−2 is obtained at 703 K and a maximum thermoelectric figure of merit of 1.53 is achieved at 673 K,which are substantially larger than the values reported in the existing literature.A flexible thermoelectric generator is designed and fabricated using Sb-doped GeTe films deposited on polyimide and achieves a maximum output power density of 2.22×103 W m−2 for a temperature difference of 300 K.
