For systemic injection of cationic liposome/plasmid DNA (pDNA) complexes (cationic lipoplexes), polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modification (PEGylation) of lipoplexes can enhance their systemic stability. In this study, we examined whether intravenous injection of PEGylated cationic lipoplexes into tumor-bearing mice could deliver pDNA into tumor tissues and induce transgene expression. PEGylation of cationic liposomes could prevent their agglutination with erythrocytes. However, when PEGylated cationic lipoplexes were injected intravenously into tumor-bearing mice, they accumulated in tumor vascular vessels and did not exhibit transgene expression in tumors with both poor and well-developed vascularization. Furthermore, PEGylated cationic lipoplexes of CpG- free pDNA could not increase transgene expression in tumors after intravenous injection. These results suggested that PEGylation could not extravasate cationic lipoplexes from vascular vessels in tumors and abolished transgene expression although it enhanced the systemic stability of cationic lipoplexes by avoiding interactions with blood components such as erythrocytes. Successful delivery of pDNA to tumors by PEGylated cationic liposomes will require a rational strategy and the design of liposomal delivery systems to overcome the issue associated with the use of PEG.

AIM:To evaluate retrospectively the correlation between enhancement patterns on dynamic computed tomography (CT) and angiogenesis and fibrosis in pancreatic ***: Twenty-three patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma underwent dynamic CT and tumor resection. In addition to the absolute and relative enhanced value that was calculated by subtracting the attenuation value on pre-contrast from those on contrast-enhanced CT in each phase, we defined one parameter, "tumor-aorta enhancement ratio", which was calculated by dividing enhancement of pancreatic cancer by enhancement of abdominal aorta in each phase. These enhancement patterns were correlated with the level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), microvessel density (MVD), and extent of ***: The absolute enhanced value in the arterial phase correlated with the level of VEGF and MVD (P=0.047, P=0.001). The relative enhanced value in arterial phase and tumor-aorta enhancement ratio (arterial) correlated with MVD (P=0.003, P=0.022). Tumor-aorta enhancement ratio (arterial) correlated negatively with the extent of fibrosis (P=0.004). The tumors with greater MVD and higher expression of VEGF tended to show high enhancement in the arterial dominant phase. On the other hand, the tumors with a larger amount of fibrosis showed a negative correlation with the grade of enhancement during the arterial ***: Enhancement patterns on dynamic CT correlated with angiogenesis and may be modified by the extent of fibrosis.

Fundic gland polyps(FGPs)are the most common gastric polyps and have been regarded as benign lesions with little malignant potential,except in the setting of familial adenomatous ***,in recent years,the prevalence of FGPs has been increasing along with the widespread and frequent use of proton pump inhibitors(PPIs).To date,several cases of FGPs with dysplasia or carcinoma(FGPD/CAs)have been *** this review,we evaluated the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of sporadic FGPD/*** of the patients with sporadic FGPD/CAs were middle-aged women receiving PPI therapy and without Helicobacter pylori(***)*** of the sporadic FGPD/CAs occurred in the body of the stomach and were sessile and small with a mean size of 5.4 *** sporadic FGPs with carcinoma showed redness,irregular surface structure,depression,or erosion during white light observation and irregular microvessels on the lesion surface during magnifying narrow-band *** addition,sporadic FGPs,even with dysplasia,are likely to progress to cancer ***,frequent endoscopy is not required for patients with sporadic ***,histopathological evaluation is necessary if endoscopic findings different from ordinary FGPs are observed,regardless of their *** the future,the prevalence of FGPs is expected to further increase along with the widespread and frequent use of PPIs and decreasing infection rate of ***,it is unclear whether FGPD/CAs will also increase in the same way as ***,the trends of these lesions warrant further attention in the future.

In recent years,the serrated neoplasia pathway where serrated polyps arise as a colorectal cancer has gained considerable attention as a new carcinogenic *** serrated polyps are histopathologically classified into hyperplastic polyps(HPs),sessile serrated lesions,and traditional serrated adenomas;in the serrated neoplasia pathway,the latter two are considered to be *** western countries,all colorectal polyps,including serrated polyps,apart from diminutive rectosigmoid HPs are ***,in Asian countries,the treatment strategy for colorectal serrated polyps has remained ***,in this review,we described the clinicopathological features of colorectal serrated polyps and proposed to remove HPs and sessile serrated lesions≥6 mm in size,and traditional serrated adenomas of any size.

Comparative study: Vonoprazan and proton pump inhibitors in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

AIMTo compare the effectiveness and safety of vonoprazan-based therapy with proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-based therapies to treat Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).METHODSWe retrospectively analysed data from first-line (vonoprazan or PPI with 200 mg clarithromycin and 750 mg amoxicillin twice daily for 7 d) (n = 1353) and second-line (vonoprazan or PPI with 250 mg metronidazole and 750 mg amoxicillin twice daily for 7 d) (n = 261) eradication treatments for H. pylori -positive patients with associated gastrointestinal diseases from April 2014 to December 2015 at hattori Clinic, Japan. The primary endpoint was the eradication rate, which was assessed with a full analysis set. The secondary endpoints were adverse events and related *** the first-line treatments, the eradication rates for vonoprazan, esomeprazol, rabeprazole, and lansoprazole were 87.9% (95%CI: 84.9%-90.5%), 71.6% (95%CI: 67.5%-75.5%), 62.9% (95%CI: 52.0%-72.9%), and 57.3% (95%CI: 50.4%-64.1%), respectively. The vonoprazan eradication rate was significantly higher than that of the PPIs (P < 0.01). Interestingly, smoking did not affect the H. pylori eradication rate in the vonoprazan group (P = 0.34), whereas it decreased the rates in the PPI groups (P = 0.013). The incidence of adverse events in the vonoprazan group was not different from the PPI group (P = 0.054), although the vonoprazan group exhibited a wider range of adverse events. Vonoprazan-based triple therapy was highly effective as a second-line treatment, with an eradication rate similar to that of PPI-based *** might be superior to PPIs in first-line H. pylori therapy, particularly for smokers. However, caution is required due to possible adverse events.

The ultra-low-frequency （ULF） electromagnetic emission is recently recognized as one of the most promising candidates for short-term earthquake （EQ） prediction. This paper reviews previous convincing evidence on the presence of ULF emissions before three major EQs. Then, we present further statistical study on the ULF occurrence, our networks of ULF monitoring in different spatial scales in Japan and finally we present several signal processings to identify the seismogenic emissions by showing latest results for recent large EQs.

This study reports the frequency of decay(stem/butt rot)of Xylocarpus granatum trees at Hat khanom-Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park,Nakhonsithammarat province,and other locations in Thailand,and the identification of purported causal basidiomycetes based on morphological and molecular *** survey plots at Hat khanomMu Ko Thale Tai National Park were established and the incidence of butt rot *** stem/butt rot incidence of *** trees varied from 40.9 to 94.4%with an average of 85.5%along all four *** in Plot 2 supported the heaviest incidence rate(94.4%),with the lowest rate in Plot 3(40.9%).Ninety-two basidiomes were collected,and 46 fungal strains(50%)isolated into axenic culture,the majority associated with tree roots(68.5%of all collections)with 31.5%from the tree *** results,based on LSU and ITS1,2,5.8 S rDNA analyses,confirmed that all samples belonged to the poroid genus Fulvifomes in the Hymenochaetaceae within the Hymenochaetales,*** 43 specimens sequenced grouped into three clades;one clade comprised specimens isolated from only the trunks and branches(14 strains),while the remainders were from roots(29 strains)and shown to be salt *** stem/butt rot strains formed unique phylotypes which did not group with other known Fulvifomes species.

We theoretically demonstrate the imaging properties of a complex two-dimensional(2D) face-centered square lattice photonic crystal(PC) made from germanium cylinders in air background. The finitedifference time-domain(FDTD) method is employed to calculate the band structure and simulate image construction. The band diagram of the complex structure is significantly compressed. Negative refraction occurs in the second energy band with negative phase velocity at a frequency of 0.228(2πc/a), which is lower than results from previous studies. Lower negative refraction frequency leads to higher image resolution. Numerical results show that the spatial resolution of the system reaches 0.7296λ, which is lower than the incident wavelength.

To clarify the role of waterfront vegetation of floodplains for adult aquatic insects, Trichoptera and Diptera (Tipulidae and Chironomidae), in the middle reaches of the Chikuma River from May to July, an investigation of the number of these insects was conducted by trapping in each type of vegetation using board traps.A total of 2608.5 adults/m 2 were collected, and we identified a total of 26 species belonging to three taxa,i.e., seven species of Trichoptera, four species of Tipulidae and 15 species of Chironomidae. The most abundant species was Psychomyia acutipennis in Trichoptera (95.7%). There was a significant difference between the number of *** in the all vegetation area (especially, Salix subfragilis) and the control area (no vegetation) during the investigation periods (P<0.05, Mann-Whitney U-test). Other taxa did not show a significant difference between the all vegetation area and the control. Moreover, the numbers of adult P. acutipennis showed a significant difference in height on each vegetation. In the case of Vicia villosa varia and V. villosa varia plus dead Phragmites australis, the highest number was caught in the traps set in the boundary between one plant and the plant above (P<0.05, Steel-Dwass Test) in *** the other hand, in the case of almost all vegetation during the investigation periods (except of *** in May, Melilotus officinalis plus dead *** in June), the highest number was caught in the traps set up within the vegetation (P<0.05, Steel-Dwass Test).As a result, a significant difference was observed in the number of trapped *** according to the vegetation and its *** is suggested that the existence of multiple types of vegetation in the floodplain plays an important role for maintaining the diversity of the fauna there.
