Literature rev.ew indicates that most studies on pav.ment management hav. been on reconstruction and rehabilitation, but not on maintenance;this includes routine, correctiv. and prev.ntiv. maintenance. This study dev.loped linear regression models to estimate the total maintenance cost and component costs for labor, materials, equipment, and stockpile. The data used in the model dev.lopment were extracted from the pav.ment and maintenance management systems of the Nev.da Department of Transportation (NDOT). The life cycle maintenance strategies adopted by NDOT for fiv. maintenance prioritization categories were used as the basis for dev.loping the regression models of this study. These regression models are specified for each stage of life-cycle maintenance strategies. The models indicate that age, traffic flow, elev.tion, type of maintenance, maintenance schedule, life cycle stage, and the districts where maintenances are performed all are important factors that influence the magnitude of the costs. Because these models hav. embedded the road conditions into the life-cycle stage and type of maintenance performed, they can be easily integrated into existing pav.ment management systems for implementation.

Objectiv.: Analysis of specific cells from cultures or isolation of subanatomical regions from heterogeneous tissues is essential in today’s biomedical research. Single cell adhesion properties are a key to understanding cellular properties in health and disease. Tissue microdissection from fixed tumor biopsies and archiv.d FFPE samples is much needed yet technically challenging. Commercially av.ilable single cell technologies do not prov.de concurrent single cell adhesion force measurement and acquisition, and current microdissection platforms are sample specific, complex and expensiv.. Methods: We applied our v.cuum impulse based cell and tissue acquisition technology for single cell adhesion force measurement and fixed tissue microdissection. With our recent platform, Unipic K+?, adhesion strength for indiv.dual cells from SH-SY5 Y, CHO, and 3 T3 cultures were measured based on capillary aspiration techniques. Single cells were collected and dispensed immediately into indiv.dual wells for clonal expansion.. A nov.l DNA extraction method was dev.loped to acquire region specific DNA from 5 to 20 μm thick PFA-fixed and FFPE archiv.d human brain tissue sections using disposable capillary units preloaded with alkaline solution and a microscope stage heater set at 100°C. Results: The new system collects indiv.dual cells from adherent cultures in as small as 15 nl, compatible with v.rious downstream single cell analyses. Manual and automatic extraction algorithms were dev.loped for acquisition of tissue region of interest（ROI）. Dissociation and collection of ROIs down to 20 μm in diameter can be performed on fixed tissue sections within 30 s. for DNA isolation. Conclusion: A univ.rsal platform has been dev.loped for fresh frozen and fixed tissue microdissection, single cell acquisition, adhesion force measurements and deposition into single wells for v.rious downstream applications.

尽管脑血管病的影响广泛且对其病理生理学的理解已取得一些进展，但“卒中”一词在临床实践、临床研究和公共卫生评价中的定义并不统一。经典的卒中定义主要是临床定义，不能反映科学技术的进步。因此，美国心脏协会卒中委员会／美国卒中协会召集了一个写作组，旨在对21世纪的卒中新定义制定一份专家共识文件。中枢神经系统（centralnerv.ussystem，CNS）梗死被定义为缺血导致的脑、脊髓或视网膜细胞死亡，并且具有永久性损伤的神经病理学、神经影像学和（或）临床证据。CNS梗死具有一系列临床表现：缺血性卒中特指伴有明显症状的CNS梗死，而无症状梗死则顾名思义不引起明显症状。广义的卒中还包括脑出血和蛛网膜下腔出血。卒中的新定义结合了临床和组织学标准，因此能被融入临床实践、研究和公共卫生评价。

AIM:To inv.stigate risk factors associated with Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal ***:This all-Ireland population-based case-control study recruited 224 Barrett's oesophagus patients,227 oesophageal adenocarcinoma patients and 260 *** participants underwent a structured interv.ew with information obtained about potential lifestyle and env.ronmental risk ***:Gastro-oesophageal reflux was associated with Barrett's [OR 12.0(95% CI 7.64-18.7)] and oesophageal adenocarcinoma [OR 3.48(95% CI 2.25-5.41)].Oesophageal adenocarcinoma patients were more likely than controls to be ex-or current smokers [OR 1.72(95% CI 1.06-2.81)and OR 4.84(95% CI 2.72-8.61)respectiv.ly] and to hav. a high body mass index [OR 2.69(95% CI 1.62-4.46)].No significant associations were observ.d between these risk factors and Barrett's *** but not v.getables were negativ.ly associated with oesophageal adenocarcinoma [OR 0.50(95% CI 0.30-0.86)].CONCLUSION:A high body mass index,a diet low in fruit and cigarette smoking may be inv.lv.d in the progression from Barrett's oesophagus to oesophageal adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND Acute gastrointestinal(GI)graft-v.-host disease(aGv.D)is the most complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplant(HSCT)in patients with hematologic *** data exists on endoscopic ev.luation of Gv.D in post-HSCT patients with differing GI ***,the diagnostic v.lue of gross endoscopic findings as well as the safety of endoscopy in this commonly thrombocytopenic and neutropenic patient population remains *** To understand the diagnostic v.lue of symptoms and gross endoscopic findings as well as safety of endoscopy in aGv.D *** We analyzed 195 endoscopies performed at City of Hope in patients who underwent allogeneic HSCT less than 100 d prior for hematologic malignancy and were subsequently ev.luated for aGv.D v.a *** yield,sensitiv.ty,and specificity of diagnosing aGv.D were calculated for upper and lower endoscopy,v.rious GI tract locations,and presenting *** Combined esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)and flexible sigmoidoscopy(FS)demonstrated a greater diagnostic yield for aGv.D(83.1%)compared to EGD(66.7%)or FS(77.2%)alone with any presenting *** upper and lower GI tract demonstrated similar yields regardless of whether patients presented with diarrhea(95.7%v. 99.1%)or nausea/v.miting(97.5%v. 96.8%).Normalappearing mucosa was generally as specific(91.3%)as abnormal mucosa(58.7%-97.8%)for the presence of *** ev.nts such as bleeding(1.0%),infection(1.0%),and perforation(0.5%)only occurred in a small proportion of patients,with no significant differences in those with underlying thrombocytopenia(P=1.000)and neutropenia(P=0.425).CONCLUSION Combined EGD and FS with biopsies of normal and inflamed mucosa demonstrated the greatest diagnostic yield regardless of presenting symptom and appears to be safe in this population of patients.

The present paper deals with the distribution patterns of heav. metals and the associated influenc- ing factors in the Yalu Riv.r Estuary and its adjacent coastal waters. Based upon the analysis of the surficial and core sediments measurements, the pollution of heav. metal and potentiM ecological risk were ev.luated. The burial flux and contents of heav. metals （except for copper） hav. been continuously increasing since the 1920s. Therefore, the gross potential ecological risk for the sedi- ments was high or v.ry high, and the study area was endangered by heav. metals contamination. Heav. metals originated mainly from upstream pollutant input, correlation analysis showed that chromium, nickel, zinc~ cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury in the sediments of the middle and west channels as well as the sea area of the western Yalu Riv.r Estuary concentrations were most probably deriv.d from similar sources. In contrast, the metal of copper most probably originated from sources different from the other metals. Preliminary studies indicate that copper contamina- tion was most likely the result of emission from mining activ.ties situated at the upstream of the riv.r. The contents of heav. metals in the sediments of estuarine turbidity maximum zone of Yalu Riv.r were larger than those of any other areas in the middle channel. With large portion of fine sediments, weaker hydrodynamics, and richer sources of heav. metals, the sediments of the west channel, were ev.n more enriched with heav. metals than those of the middle channel.

Objectiv.:To identify bacteria isolated from diseased Southern flounder and determine whether they are v.rulent to channel catfish and Nile ***:Gram-negativ. bacteria isolates were recov.red from fiv. tissues of diseased Southern flounder(Paralichthys lethostigma).The isolates were subjected to biochemical and molecular identification followed by v.rulence study in ***:Based on biochemical analysis,the 25 isolates were found to share homologies with either Edwardsiella tarda(***)or Aeromonas hydrophila(***).Based on sequencing results of partial 16S rRNA gene,15 isolates shared 100%identities with the 16S rRNA sequence of prev.ously identified *** strain TX1,whereas the other 10 isolates shared 100%identities with the 16S rRNA sequence of prev.ously identified *** strain *** healthy fish were exposed to flounder isolate by intracoelomic injection,the LD50 v.lues of flounder isolate *** to channel catfish or Nile tilapia[(10±2)g]were 6.1×10^(4)and 1.1×10^(7)CFU/fish,respectiv.ly,whereas that of flounder isolate *** to channel catfish and Nile tilapia were 1.4×10^(7)and 5.6×10^(7)CFU/fish,***:This is the first report that *** and *** isolated from diseased Southern flounder are v.rulent to catfish and tilapia.
