Machine learning algorithm partially reconfigured on fPGA for an image edge detection system

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)have been widely used in military,medical,wireless communications,aerial surveillance,*** key topic involving UAVs is pose estimation in autonomous navigation.A standard procedure for this process is to combine inertial navigation system sensor information with the global navigation satellite system(GNSS)***,some factors can interfere with the GNSS signal,such as ionospheric scintillation,jamming,or *** alternative method to avoid using the GNSS signal is to apply an image processing approach by matching UAV images with georeferenced *** a high effort is required for image edge *** a support vector regression(SVR)model is proposed to reduce this computational load and processing *** dynamic partial reconfiguration(DPR)of part of the SVR datapath is implemented to accelerate the process,reduce the area,and analyze its granularity by increasing the grain size of the reconfigurable *** show that the implementation in hardware is 68 times faster than that in *** architecture with DPR also facilitates the low power consumption of 4 mW,leading to a reduction of 57%than that without *** is also the lowest power consumption in current machine learning hardware ***,the circuitry area is 41 times *** with Gaussian kernel shows a success rate of 99.18%and minimum square error of 0.0146 for testing with the planning *** system is useful for adaptive applications where the user/designer can modify/reconfigure the hardware layout during its application,thus contributing to lower power consumption,smaller hardware area,and shorter execution time.

Climate Precipitation Prediction by Neural Network

In this work a neural network model for climate forecasting is presented. The model is built by training a neural network with available reanalysis data. In order to assess the model, the development methodology considers the use of data reduction strategies that eliminate data redundancy thus reducing the complexity of the models. The results presented in this paper considered the use of Rough Sets Theory principles in extracting relevant information from the available data to achieve the reduction of redundancy among the variables used for forecasting purposes. The paper presents results of climate prediction made with the use of the neural network based model. The results obtained in the conducted experiments show the effectiveness of the methodology, presenting estimates similar to observations.

The increasing volume of data in the area of environmental sciences needs analysis and interpretation. Among the challenges generated by this “data deluge”, the development of efficient strategies for the knowledge discovery is an important issue. Here, statistical and tools from computational intelligence are applied to analyze large data sets from meteorology and climate sciences. Our approach allows a geographical mapping of the statistical property to be easily interpreted by meteorologists. Our data analysis comprises two main steps of knowledge extraction, applied successively in order to reduce the complexity from the original data set. The goal is to identify a much smaller subset of climatic variables that might still be able to describe or even predict the probability of occurrence of an extreme event. The first step applies a class comparison technique: p-value estimation. The second step consists of a decision tree (DT) configured from the data available and the p-value analysis. The DT is used as a predictive model, identifying the most statistically significant climate variables of the precipitation intensity. The methodology is employed to the study the climatic causes of an extreme precipitation events occurred in Alagoas and Pernambuco States (Brazil) at June/2010.

An overview on nucleation theories and models

Several different models for coercivity are discussed. There are two main situations: i) nanocrystalline magnets, with grain size bellow the single domain particle size, and ii) magnets with grain size above single domain particle size. The described theories and models are general, and can be applied in either NdfeB magnets, SmfeCoCuZr or strontium ferrite magnets. The spring effect observed in isotropic nanocrystalline magnets can be explained with the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Modifications of the StonerWohlfarth model are necessary to take into account the effect of interaction between grains. When the grain size is above the single domain size, energy considerations show that nucleation should occur at the surface of grains. Nucleation is interpreted as a two-step process, where domain wall displacement occurs for grain size above single domain size, after a nucleus is first formed. The effect of grain size on the coercive field is discussed.

flight simulators can provide a suitable alternative to real flight, mainly to increase safety through the training of crew, and evaluation data from simulator can be used to validation and certification of aircraft systems. However, it must convey some degree of realism to the user to be effective. for that reason, it is necessary to calibrate the simulator software. Calibration for flight simulation is parameter identification process. The process is formulated as an optimization problem, and it is solved by using a new approach named Multiple Particle Collision Algorithm （MPCA）. Results show a good performance for the employed approach.

ANN （artificial neural network） is a technique successfully employed in many applications on several research fields. An appropriate configuration for neural networks is a tedious task, and it often requires the knowledge of an expert on the application. In this paper, a technique for automatic configuration for two types of neural networks is presented. The multilayer perceptron and recurrent Elman are the neural networks used here. The determination of optimal parameters for the neural network is formulated as an optimization problem, solved with the use of meta-heuristic MPCA （multiple particle collision algorithm）. The self-configuring networks are applied to perform data assimilation.

Surgical treatment of familial adenomatous polyposis: Dilemmas and current recommendations

familial adenomatous polyposis (fAP) is an autosomal dominant inherited syndrome characterized by multiple adenomatous polyps (predisposing to colorectal cancer development) and numerous extracolonic manifestations. The underlying genetic burden generates variable clinical features that may influence operative management. As a precancerous hereditary condition, the rationale of performing a prophylactic surgery is a mainstay of fAP management. The purpose of the present paper is to bring up many controversial aspects regarding surgical treatment for fAP, and to discuss the results and perspectives of the operative choices and approaches. Preferably, the decision-making process should not be limited to the conventional confrontation of pros and cons of ileorectal anastomosis or restorative proctocolectomy. A wide discussion with the patient may evaluate issues such as age, genotype, family history, sphincter function, the presence or risk of.desmoid disease, potential complications of each procedure and chances of postoperative surveillance. Therefore, the definition of the best moment and the choice of appropriate procedure constitute an individual decision that must take into consideration patient’s preferences and full information about the complex nature of the disease. All these facts reinforce the idea that fAP patients should be managed by experienced surgeons working in specialized centers to achieve the best immediate and long-term results.

Colorectal cancer in young adults: A difficult challenge

Sporadic colorectal cancer(CRC) is traditionally diagnosed after the sixth decade of life,and current recommendations for surveillance include only patients older than 50 years of age. However,an increasing incidence of CRC in patients less than 40 years of age has been reported. This occurrence has been attributed to different molecular features and low suspicion of CRC in young symptomatic individuals. When confronting young-onset CRC with older patients,issues such as biological aggressiveness,stage at diagnosis and clinical outcomes seem to differ in many aspects. In the future,the identification of the molecular profile underlying the early development of sporadic CRC will help to plan tailored screening recommendations and improve management. Besides that,differential diagnosis with CRC linked with hereditary syndromes is necessary to provide adequate patient treatment and family screening. Until we find the answers to some of these doubts,doctors should raise suspicion when evaluating an young adult and be aware of this risk and consequences of a late diagnosis.

Hypertonic saline （HS） has been applied in several med- ical areas such as pneumology （asthma, cystic fibrosis and bronchiolytis）, endocrinology （hyponatremia） and especially in emergency medicine, in traumatic and in- flammatory/infectious disorders. It may be composed of 3% or 7.5% sodium chlorate. By far, 3% solution is the most widely studied and used solution （Pinto et al., 2006, 2015; dekker et al., 2014; Gantner et al., 2014; Shein et al., 2014）.

Background:The steady-state increase in muscle force generating potential following a lengthening contraction is called residual force enhancement(RfE).In this study,we aimed to test for differences in torque,electromyographic activity(EMG),and the associated neuromuscular efficiency(NME)between isometric voluntary contractions of elbow flexors preceded and not preceded by a lengthening *** dependence of such differences on(i)stretch amplitude,(ii)the region of the force-length(fxL)relationship where contraction occurs,and(iii)the individual's ability to produce(negative)work during the stretch was ***:Sixteen healthy adults participated in the *** flexor torque,angle,and biceps brachii EMG for purely isometric contractions(reference contractions)and for isometric contractions preceded by active stretches of 20°and 40°were measured at the ascending,plateau,and descending regions of subject-specific fxL *** contractions were performed in an isokinetic ***-factor(stretch×fxL region)repeated measures analysis of variance ANOVAs was used to analyze the effect of active stretch on EMG,torque,and NME across *** relationships between mechanical work during stretch-calculated as the torque-angular displacement integral-and the changes in EMG,torque,and NME were analyzed using Pearson ***:In general,torque,EMG,and NME following active stretches differed from the values observed for the purely isometric reference *** although the detailed effects of active stretch on torque and EMG differed between regions of the fxL relationship,NME increased by about 19%for all muscle *** to 30%of the interindividual variability in torque generating potential change in response to active stretching was accounted for by differences in(negative)work capacity between ***:Our results suggest that(i)RfE contributes to"flatten"the elbow flexor torque-angle relationship,favoring
