Haplotyping of Rice Genotypes Using Simple Sequence Repeat Markers Associated with Salt Tolerance

Salt stress is a major problem in most of the rice growing areas in the world. A major QTLSaltol associated with salt tolerance at the seedling stage has been mapped on chromosome 1 in *** study aimed to characterize the haplotype diversity at Saltol and additional QTLs associated withsalt tolerance. Salt tolerance at the seedling stage was assessed in 54 rice genotypes in the scale of 1to 9 score at EC = 10 dSm^-1 under controlled environmental conditions. Seven new breeding linesincluding three KMR3/O. rufipogon introgression lines showed similar salt tolerant ability as FL478 andcan be good sources of new genes/alleles for salt tolerance. Simple sequence repeat （SSR） markerRM289 showed only two alleles and RM8094 showed seven alleles. Polymorphic information contentvalue varied from 0.55 for RM289 to 0.99 for RM8094 and RM493. Based on 14 SSR markers, the 54lines were clearly separated into two major clusters. Fourteen haplotypes were identified based onSaltol linked markers with FL478 as the reference. Alleles of RM8094 and RM3412 can discriminatebetween the salt tolerant and susceptible genotypes clearly and hence can be useful in marker-assistedselection at the seedling stage. Other markers RM10720 on chromosome 1 and RM149 and RM264 onchromosome 8 can also distinguish tolerant and susceptible lines but with lesser stringency.

Objective:To study the antioxidant efficacy of Commiphora mukul(***) gum resin ethanolic extract in streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic ***:The male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four groups of eight animals each:Control group(C),CM-treated control group(C_+CMEE),Diabetic control group(D),CM- treated diabetic group(D_+CMEE).Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ(55 mg/kg/ bwt).After being confirmed the diabetic rats were treated with *** gum resin ethanolic extract(CMEE) for 60 *** biochemical estimations like antioxidant,oxidative stress marker enzymes and hepatic marker enzymes of tissues were ***:The diabetic rats showed increased level of enzymatic activities aspartate aminotransaminase(AST),alanine aminotransaminase(ALT) in liver and kidney and oxidative markers like lipid peroxidation(LPO) and protein oxidation(PO) in pancreas and heart. Antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly decreased in the pancreas and heart compared to control *** of CMEE(200 mg/kg bw) to diabetic rats for 60 days significantly reversed the above parameters towards ***:In conclusion,our data indicate the preventive role of *** against STZ-induced diabetic oxidative stress;hence this plant could be used as an adjuvant therapy for the prevention and/or management of diabetes and aggravated antioxidant status.

The study describes chemo-enzymatic synthesis of organic disulphide compounds. The reaction was initiated by hydrolysis of thiol acetates using hydrolytic enzyme lipase (PPL) immobilized on to magnetic nanoparticles and subsequent formation of organic disulphide compounds. Lipase was immobilized on to the magnetic nanoparticles by co-precipitation method via epichlorohydrin chitosan cross-linking, under mild and eco-friendly conditions. The immobilized lipase enzyme exhibited broad range of substrate specificity in synthesizing disulphide compounds, which involves both intra and inter-molecular disulphide bond formation under anaerobic conditions. The disulphide compounds synthesized also show a promising antimicrobial activity.

Effect of metal fluorides on chromium ions doped bismuth borate glasses for optical applications

Fluoride based glasses with composition CaF_2-ZnF_2-Bi_2 O_3-B_2 O_3 doped with chromium ions have been investigated using physical, optical, electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), and Raman studies. The amorphous nature of samples was confirmed from x-ray diffraction spectra. The density is evaluated from the Archimedes principle and the values of optical band gap and Urbach energy values were evaluated from the optical absorption spectra. Thus, molar volume, refractive index, etc., were also evaluated. The observed decrease in density and the optical band gap with CaF2 is explained using the crystalline density of metal fluorides and the ionicity of fluorine ions,respectively. The three peaks near 450 nm, 606 nm, and 720 nm, which are shown in the absorption spectra, are accredited to ~4 A)(2 g) → ~4 T_(1 g), ~4 A_(2 g)→ ~4 T_(2 g), ~4 A_(2 g)→~2 E transitions, respectively. Resonance signals at g≈ 4.82 and g≈ 1.99 were observed in EPR spectra which are assigned. FTIR and Raman analysis were carried out to examine the impact of metal fluorides on the structure of bismuth borate glasses.

The study of the migration characteristics of turbulent jets has become relevant as they are used in a variety of engineering devices and are encountered in combustion, chemical processes, and processes involving cooling, mixing, and drying. In several applications, especially in the case of hot streaks in gas turbines, the knowledge of mixing phenomena becomes crucial from a design perspective. The purpose of this study is to look into the characteristics of a round hot jet in a parallel air flow. A jet of hot air injected through a nozzle into a flow of cold air has been considered. Numerical simulations were carried out with different hot jet temperatures and two different Reynold’s numbers, thus aiming at understanding the effect of initial conditions on the mixing of the jet. The temperature profiles were studied at different sections downstream of the nozzle. The results are presented in non-dimensional form.

Surface coating facilities are major sources of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in urban areas. These VOCs can contribute to ground-level ozone formation, and many are hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), including xylene, ethylbenzene, and toluene. This project was conducted in order to provide information for updating the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), USA, permit by rule for Surface Coating Facilities. Project objectives were: 1) To develop a database of information regarding surface coating facilities in Texas;2) To estimate maximum emission rates for various VOC species from surface coating facilities in Texas;3) To conduct dispersion modeling to estimate off-site impacts from surface coating facilities. The database was developed using 286 TCEQ permit files authorizing surface coating facilities in Texas during 2006 and 2007. The database was designed to include information important for estimating emission rates, and for using as inputs to the dispersion model. Hourly and annual emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter (PM), and exempt solvents (ES) were calculated for each permitted entity/ company in the database, according to equations given by TCEQ. Dispersion modeling was then conducted for 3 facility configurations (worst-case stack height, good practice stack height, and fugitive emissions), for urban and rural dispersion parameters, for 8-hour and 24-hour operating scenarios, and for 1-hour, 24-hour, and annual averaging times, for a total of 36 scenarios. The highest modeled concentrations were for the worst-case stack height, rural dispersion parameters, 24-hour operation scenario, and 1-hour averaging time. 108 specific chemical species, which are components of surface coatings, were identified as candidates for further health impacts review.

Pneumatosis of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare condition characterized by the presence of air filled cavities in the gastrointestinal tract *** occurrence has been described throughout the gastrointestinal tract from the esophagus to the rectum,however it is most commonly reported in the small *** multiple case reports in literature,its pathogenesis still remains *** may be idiopathic or associated with a variety of disorders namely peptic ulcer disease,jejunoileal bypass,intestinal obstruction and non-gastrointestinal disorders like asthma,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,systemic lupus erythematosus,infectious enteritis,*** here present a rare case of pneumatosis of the esophagus diagnosed incidentally at an esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD).A 78-year-old asymptomatic woman underwent EGD and colonoscopy at our hospital for evaluation of *** months prior to EGD,she had undergone excision of laryngocele at our *** revealed extensive submucosal blebs distributed throughout the esophagus,otherwise unremarkable stomach and *** showed a tubular adenomatous *** our patient was asymptomatic she did not require any surgical *** of pneumatosis depends on the underlying cause.
