Salivary metabolites are promising noninvasive biomarkers of druginduced liver injury

BACKGROUND Drug-induced liver injury(DILI)is one of the most common adverse events of medication use,and its incidence is ***,early detection of DILI is a crucial challenge due to a lack of biomarkers and noninvasive *** To identify salivary metabolic biomarkers of DILI for the future development of noninvasive diagnostic *** Saliva samples from 31 DILI patients and 35 healthy controls(HCs)were subjected to untargeted metabolomics using ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass *** analyses,including partial least squares-discriminant analysis modeling,t tests and weighted metabolite coexpression network analysis(WMCNA),were conducted to identify key differentially expressed metabolites(DEMs)and metabolite *** we utilized least absolute shrinkage and selection operato and random fores analyses for biomarker *** use of each metabolite and metabolite set to detect DILI was evaluated with area under the receiver operating characteristic *** We found 247 differentially expressed salivary metabolites between the DILI group and the HC *** WMCNA,we identified a set of 8 DEMs closely related to liver injury for further prediction ***,the distinct separation of DILI patients and HCs was achieved with five metabolites,namely,12-hydroxydodecanoic acid,3-hydroxydecanoic acid,tetradecanedioic acid,hypoxanthine,and inosine(area under the curve:0.733-1).CONCLUsiON Salivary metabolomics revealed previously unreported metabolic alterations and diagnostic biomarkers in the saliva of DILI *** study may provide a potentially feasible and noninvasive diagnostic method for DILI,but further validation is needed.

This paper presents a superhydrophobic melamine(ME)sponge(ME-g-PLMA)prepared via high-energy radiation-induced in situ covalent grafting of long-alkyl-chain dodecyl methacrylate(LMA)onto an ME sponge for efficient oil–water *** obtained ME-g-PLMA sponge had an excellent pore structure with superhydrophobic(water contact angle of 154°)and superoleophilic *** can absorb various types of oils up to 66–168 times its *** ME-g-PLMA sponge can continuously separate oil slicks in water by connecting a pump or separating oil underwater with a gravity-driven *** addition,it maintained its highly hydrophobic properties even after long-term immersion in different corrosive solutions and repeated oil *** modified ME-g-PLMA sponge exhibited excellent separation properties and potential for oil spill cleanup.

Background:Acute gouty arthritis(AGA)is an inflammatory joint disease with a high *** medical interventions,including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,colchicine and glucocorticoids,can have serious adverse *** Granule(HZG),a compound Chinese herbal medicine,has been used to treat AGA for more than 30 years with satisfactory effects and no significant adverse ***,the efficacy and safety of HZG in AGA patients remains ***:The present investigation was designed to examine the efficacy and safety profile of HZG in managing AGA ***,setting,participants and interventions:The current study was conducted as a noninferiority,randomized controlled clinical trial on 180 eligible enrolled *** were randomly assigned into the HZG and etoricoxib *** were administered for 5 d,during which the HZG group received HZG and placebo etoricoxib,while the etoricoxib group received etoricoxib and placebo HZG in the same ratio(1:1).Main outcome measures:The primary outcome was pain experienced by the patient in the gout-afflicted joint from days 2 to 5 of the treatment *** pain level was measured via a visual analogue scale,ranging from 0 mm to 100 *** secondary outcomes comprised joint tenderness and swelling,reduction of inflammatory biomarkers,and the patient’s and investigator’s global evaluations of therapeutic ***:The mean reduction in pain was-51.22 mm(95%confidence interval[CI],[-53.42,-49.03]mm)for the HZG and-52.00 mm(95%CI,[-54.06,-49.94]mm)for the etoricoxib *** mean difference between the two groups was 0.78 mm(95%CI,[-2.25,3.81]mm).All additional efficacy endpoints,covering decreased inflammation and pain relief,yielded compelling proof of *** in the HZG group exhibited a comparatively lower rate of adverse events compared to those in the etoricoxib group(4.44%vs 13.33%;P≤0.05).Conclusion:HZG and etoricoxib groups demons

Dynamical switchable quantum nonreciprocity induced by off-resonant chiral two-photon driving

Optical nonreciprocity,which refers to the direction-dependent emission,scattering and absorption of photons,plays a very important role in quantum engineering and quantum information ***,we propose an all-optical approach to achieve the optical dynamical switchable quantum nonreciprocity by an off-resonant chiral two-photon driving in a single microring cavity,which differs from the conventional nonreciprocal *** is shown that the optical field with time-dependent statistical properties can be generated and the nonreciprocity flips periodically,with switchable photon blockade and photon-induced tunneling *** find that the dynamical system is robust and immune to the parameter variations,which loosens the parameter range of ***,the time window for one-way quantum information is sufficiently wide and *** work opens a new idea for the current quantum nonreciprocal research,which can facilitate a memory functionality and be used for future inmemory superconducting quantum *** other nonreciprocal quantum devices,i.e.,dynamical switchable nonreciprocal squeezing and entanglement,may be inspired by our method,which is expected to have important applications in future quantum technology.

Hydrogen-rich surface of MoC catalysts for efficient CO_(2) hydrogenation induced by a coupled hydrogen donator

Direct CO_(2) hydrogenation offers an important strategy for promoting the global carbon balance,but high thermodynamic and kinetic stability of CO_(2) has restricted its applicability to only a handful of industrial ***,we introduce a proof-of-concept application of the electron-rich Pt surface to promote hydrogen donation for electron-rich MoC particles acting as hydrogen acceptors,thereby constructing hydrogen-rich surface of MoC active ***,the formed hydrogen-rich and electronrich surface could greatly decrease reaction activation energy to boost the efficient CO_(2) hydrogenation into formic acid over the MoC *** optimized MoC@NC/Pt-0.1(NC:nitrogen-doped carbon)catalyst exhibits a high turnover frequency(TOF)value of 1.2 h^(−1) at a lower temperature of 60℃and a TOF of 24.2 h^(−1) under standard reaction conditions widely used in the literature,exceeding 7 times of MoC@NC catalyst and surpassing the benchmark classical non-noble metal active center-based heterogeneous catalyst.

Experimental Study on the Performance of ORC System Based on Ultra-Low Temperature Heat Sources

This paper discussed the experimental results of the performance of an organic Rankine cycle(ORC)system with an ultra-low temperature heat *** low boiling point working medium R134a was adopted in the *** simulated heat source temperature(SHST)in this work was set from 39.51°C to 48.60°C by the simulated heat source *** influence of load percentage of simulated heat source(LPSHS)between 50%and 70%,the rotary valve opening(RVO)between 20%and 100%,the resistive load between 36Ωand 180Ωor the no-load of the generator,as well as the autumn and winter ambient temperature on the system performance were *** results showed that the stability of the system was promoted when the generator had a resistive *** power generation(PG)and generator speed(GS)of the system in autumn were better than in winter,but the expander pressure ratio(EPR)was lower than in *** RVO unchanged,the SHST,the mass flow rate(MFR)of the working medium,GS,and the PG of the system increased with the increasing of LPSHS for different generator resistance load *** the RVO was 60%,LPSHS was 70%,the SHST was 44.15°C and the resistive load was 72Ω,the highest PG reached 15.11 ***,a simulation formula was obtained for LPSHS,resistance load,and PG,and its correlation coefficient was between 0.9818 and *** formula can accurately predict the *** experimental results showed that the standard deviation between the experimental and simulated values was below 0.0792,and the relative error was within±5%.

Renewable conversion of coal gangue to 13-X molecular sieve for Cd^(2+)-containing wastewater adsorption performance

Using coal gangue(CG)as raw material,a new type of all solid-waste-based 13-X molecular sieve material was controllably prepared by alkali fusion-hydrothermal *** synthetic molecular sieve was used as a solid adsorbent to treat Cd^(2+)-containing wastewater,and its adsorption behavior on Cd^(2+)in aqueous solution was studied and *** microstructure and morphology of the molecular sieve were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM)and specific surface area *** results show that the synthesized 13-X molecular sieve has higher Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET)specific surface area with higher crystallinity and higher adsorption capacity for the heavy metal Cd^(2+).The adsorption process of Cd^(2+)by molecular sieve conforms to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption equation and Lagergren pseudo-second-order rate *** with thermodynamic calculation,it can be concluded that the adsorption process is physically monolayer,spontaneous and *** this study,a low-cost and naturally available synthesis method of 13-X molecular sieve is *** with its adsorption mechanism for Cd^(2+),it provides a feasible and general method for removing heavy metal ions from coal gangue and also provides a new way for the utilization of coal gangue with high added value.

AIM:To explore the effect of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)inhibition by erlotinib and EGFR siRNA on epidermal growth factor(EGF)-induced activation of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)***:Human RPE cell line(ARPE-19 cells)was activated by 100 ng/mL *** and EGFR siRNA were used to intervene EGF *** viability,proliferation,and migration were detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT)assay,bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU)staining assay and wound healing assay,***/protein kinase B(AKT)pathway proteins and N-cadherin,α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA),and vimentin were tested by Western blot *** was also determined by immunofluorescence ***:EGF treatment for 24h induced a significant increase of ARPE-19 cells’viability,proliferation and migration,phosphorylation of EGFR/AKT proteins,and decreased total EGFR *** suppressed ARPE-19 cells’viability,proliferation and migration through down regulating total EGFR and AKT protein *** also inhibited EGF-induced an increase of proliferative and migrative ability in ARPE-19 cells and clearly suppressed EGF-induced EGFR/AKT proteins phosphorylation and decreased expression of N-cadherin,α-SMA,and vimentin ***,EGFR inhibition by EGFR siRNA significantly affected EGF-induced an increase of cell proliferation,viability,and migration,phosphorylation of EGFR/AKT proteins,and up-regulation of N-cadherin,α-SMA,and vimentin ***:Erlotinib and EGFR-knockdown suppress EGF-induced cell viability,proliferation,and migration via EGFR/AKT pathway in RPE *** inhibition may be a possible therapeutic approach for proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR).

This editorial comments on an article published in a recent issue of World Journal of Gastroenterology,entitled“Association of low muscle strength with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease:A nationwide study”.We focused on the association between muscle strength and the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD),as well as the mechanisms underlying the correlation and related clinical ***,which is now redefined as MAFLD,is one of the most common chronic liver diseases globally with an increasing prevalence and is characterized by malnutrition,which may contribute to decreased muscle *** of muscle strength reportedly has a pathogenesis similar to that of NAFLD/MAFLD,including insulin resistance,inflammation,sedentary behavior,as well as insufficient vitamin *** studies have focused on the relationship between sarcopenia or muscle strength and ***,studies investigating the relationship between muscle strength and MAFLD are *** to the shortage of specific medications for NAFLD/MAFLD treatment,early detection is ***,the relationship between muscle strength and NAFLD/MAFLD suggests that improvements in muscle strength may have an impact on disease prevention and may provide novel insights into treatments including dietary therapy,as well as tailored physical activity.
