Primmorph extracts and mesohyls of marine sponges inhibit proliferation and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma cells in vitro

Cancer recurrence and severe side effects of currently being used chemotherapeutic agents reduce their clinical efficacy. Thus, there is a constant need to develop alternative anticancer drugs. Sustainable supply is an important challenge facing marine-based drug discovery. Primmorph, a 3D cell culture system, could provide a sustainable source to produce metabolites for anticancer drugs from marine sponges. In the present work, the anticancer activity of primmorph extracts and mesohyls of Negombata magnifica, Hemimycle arabica, Crella spinulata, and Stylissa carteri sponges was evaluated. Antiproliferative activity was studied in terms of cytotoxicity, colony formation, cell cycle, and apoptosis. Migration was assessed by migration assay and matrix metalloproteinase activity. The expression of proliferation and migration-related genes was analyzed using real time PCR. Migration and proliferation activities of HepG2 cells were inhibited by treatment with primmorph extracts and mesohyls of N. magnifica, H. arabica, and C. spinulata. The mesohyl of S. carteri did not show any anticancer activity although the primmorph extract led to cell cycle arrest. Among the selected sponge species, the primmorph extract of C. spinulata was the most promising anticancer agent regarding antiproliferative and antimigratory activities. In addition, primmorph extracts have the advantage of working under welldefined and controlled conditions, which allows the easy application as a bioreactor.

Healthcare systems nowadays depend on IoT sensors for sending data over the internet as a common *** ofmedical images is very important to secure patient *** these images consumes a lot of time onedge computing;therefore,theuse of anauto-encoder for compressionbefore encodingwill solve such a *** this paper,we use an auto-encoder to compress amedical image before encryption,and an encryption output(vector)is sent out over the *** the other hand,a decoder was used to reproduce the original image back after the vector was received and *** convolutional neural networks were conducted to evaluate our proposed approach:The first one is the auto-encoder,which is utilized to compress and encrypt the images,and the other assesses the classification accuracy of the image after decryption and *** hyperparameters of the encoder were tested,followed by the classification of the image to verify that no critical information was lost,to test the encryption and encoding *** this approach,sixteen hyperparameter permutations are utilized,but this research discusses three main cases in *** first case shows that the combination of Mean Square Logarithmic Error(MSLE),ADAgrad,two layers for the auto-encoder,and RelU had the best auto-encoder results with a Mean Absolute Error(MAE)=0.221 after 50 epochs and 75%classification with the best result for the classification *** second case shows the reflection of auto-encoder results on the classification results which is a combination ofMean Square Error(MSE),RMSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and RelU,which had the best classification accuracy of 65%,the auto-encoder gives MAE=0.31 after 50 *** third case is the worst,which is the combination of the hinge,RMSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and RelU,providing accuracy of 20%and MAE=0.485.

Experimental evaluation of Odonata nymph in the biocontrol of schistosomiasis intermediate hosts

Objective:To evaluate the predatory potential of the Odonata nymph on freshwater snails that serve as intermediate hosts for Schistosoma species(Bulinus truncatus and Biomphalaria alexandrina).Methods:Observations on the searching,attacking and devouring of the two snail types with series of laboratory-based predation experiments,whose aims were to determine daily predation rate,differential predation,prey preference considering small-,mediumand large-sized snails were ***:Laboratory evaluation revealed that,the Odonata nymph could kill and consume the two intermediate *** number of snails consumed differed according to the snail type,size and *** times taken for searching and handling times were dependent on the snail size,type and satiation of the *** predation rate varied also with respect to snail type,size and *** study also evaluated that Odonata nymphs consumed more Bulinus truncatus than Biomphalaria alexandrina per unit time,and that there may be a preference for smaller than larger ***:According to our observation,the predator,Hemianax ephippiger nymph may be a suitable biocontrol agent in connection with Schistosoma intermediate hosts.

Bayesian belief-based model for reliability improvement of the digital reactor protection system

The digital reactor protection system(RPS)is one of the most important digital instrumentation and control(I&C)systems utilized in nuclear power plants(NPPs).It ensures a safe reactor trip when the safety-related parameters violate the operational limits and conditions of the *** high reliability and availability of digital RPS is essential to maintaining a high degree of reactor safety and cost *** main objective of this study is to develop a general methodology for improving the reliability of the RPS in NPP,based on a Bayesian Belief Network(BBN)*** structure of BBN models is based on the incorporation of failure probability and downtime of the RPS I&C *** architectures with dual-state nodes for the I&C components were developed for reliability-sensitive analysis and availability optimization of the RPS and to demonstrate the effect of I&C components on the failure of the entire system.A reliability framework clarified as a reliability block diagram transformed into a BBN representation was constructed for each architecture to identify which one will fit the required *** results showed that the highest availability obtained using the proposed method was *** are 120 experiments using two common component importance measures that are applied to define the impact of I&C modules,which revealed that some modules are more risky than others and have a larger effect on the failure of the digital RPS.

electrodeposited Pt and Pt-Sn nanoparticles on Ti as anodes for direct methanol fuel cells

electro-oxidation of methanol was studied on titanium supported nanocrystallite Pt and Ptx-Sny catalysts prepared by electrodeposition techniques. Their electro-catalytic activities were studied in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 and compared to those of a smooth Pt, Pt/Pt and Pt-Sn/Pt electrodes. Platinum was deposited on Ti by galvanostatic and potentiostatic techniques. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) techniques were applied in order to investigate the chemical composition and the phase structure of the modified electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the surface morphology and to correlate the results obtained from the two electrochemical deposition methods. Results show that modified Pt/Ti electrodes prepared by the two methods have comparable performance and enhanced catalytic activity towards methanol electro-oxidation compared to Pt/Pt and smooth Pt electrodes. Steady state Tafel plots experiments show a higher rate of methanol oxidation on a Pt/Ti catalyst than that on a smooth Pt. Introduction of a small amount of Sn deposited with Pt improves the catalytic activity and the stability of prepared electrode with time as indicated from the cyclic votlammetry and the chronoamperometric experiments. The effect of variations in the composition for binary catalysts of the type Ptx-Sny/Ti towards the methanol oxidation reaction is reported. Consequently, the Ptx-Sny/Ti (x∶y (8∶1), molar ratio) catalyst is a very promising one for methanol oxidation.

Serum ferritin in neonatal cholestasis: A specific and active molecule or a non-specific bystander marker?

Background: Serum ferritin(SF) and consequently hepatic iron have long been considered important in liver fibrosis progression. They have been studied in different liver diseases with no previous reports in neonatal cholestasis(NC). This study aimed to measure SF in different etiologies of NC and investigate its relation to hepatic iron and fibrosis. Methods: SF was measured in 75 infants, including 50 with NC and 25 with sepsis. SF was compared between these two groups. Biochemical parameters, hepatic iron grades, and liver fibrosis and other histopathological characteristics and correlated with SF were assessed in NC group. Finally, a comparison between intrahepatic cholestasis and obstructive etiology was performed. Results: SF was elevated in NC(1598 ± 2405 ng/mL) with no significant difference from those with sepsis( P = 0.445). NC and sepsis constituted augmenting factors leading to more elevation of SF(2589 ± 3511 ng/mL). SF was significantly correlated with hepatic iron grades( r = 0.536, P ell transformation( P = 0.009) and hepatocyte swelling( P = 0.023) than those with obstructive etiology(672 ± 566 ng/mL) and their prevalent pathological findings of ductular proliferation( P = 0.003) and bile plugs( P = 0.002). SF was unrelated to the grade of liver fibrosis( P = 0.058). Conclusions: SF is non-specifically elevated in NC, with positive correlation to hepatic iron grades. SF ≥ 803.5 ng/mL can predict higher grades( ≥ grade 3) of hepatic iron. However, an active role of increased SF and hepatic iron in disease progression remains questionable.

Potential of Hemianax ephippiger (Odonata-Aeshnidae) nymph as predator of Fasciola intermediate host, Lymnaea natalensis

Objective: To evaluate the predatory capacity of the Odonata, Hemianax ephippiger nymph as a biocontrol agent for the freshwater snail Lymnaea natalensis, intermediate host of Fasciola gigantica. Methods: Observations on the searching, attacking and devouring of the snails with a series of laboratory-based predation experiments, whose aims were to determine daily predation rate, differential predation on small-, medium- and large-sized snails were carried out. Results: Laboratory evaluation revealed that, the Odonata nymph could kill and consume all three sizes of snails. Searching and handling time of the predator differed depending on snail size and predator vulnerability. The predation rate varied also with respect to snail size and ***: Our observations suggested that the predator Hemianax ephippiger may be a suitable bio-control agent of Lymnaea natalensis snail population.

Performance assessment of a power-to-gas process based on reversible solid oxide cell

Due to the foreseen growth of sustainable energy utilization in the upcoming years, storage of the excess production is becoming a rather serious matter. In this work, a promising solution to this issue is investigated using one of the most emerging technologies of electricity conversion: reversible solid oxide cells (RSOC). A detailed model was created so as to study the RSOC performance before implementing it in the global co-electrolysis Aspen Plus(TM) model. The model was compared to experimental results and showed good agreement with the available data under steady state conditions. The system was then scaled up to a 10MWco-electrolysis unit operating at 1073 K and 3 bar. The produced syngas is subsequently directed to a methanation unit to produce a synthetic natural gas (SNG) with an equivalent chemical power of 8.3 MWth. Additionally, as a result of a heat integration analysis, the methanation process provides steam and electricity to operate the rest of the units in the process. A final CO2 capture step is added to ensure the required specifications of the produced SNG for gas network injection. Lastly, the overall performance of the power-to-gas process was evaluated taking into account the energy consumption of each unit.

SOX9 in biliary atresia: New insight for fibrosis progression

Flavonoid chemical composition and antidiabetic potential of Brachychiton acerifolius leaves extract

Objective:To evaluate Brachychiton acerifolius leaf extracts as antidiabetic potential agent and to identify the main active constituents using bioactivity guided ***:In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated for *** different extracts using DPPH assay and vitamin C as *** activity was then determined using STZ-induced rats treated daily with ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol leaf extracts for4 weeks at a dose of 200 g/kg body weight against gliclazide reference *** glucose,a-amylase,lipid profile,liver function enzymes and oxidative stress markers were assessed along with histopathological study for liver and pancreatic *** and structural elucidation of active compounds were made using Diaion and Sephadex followed by spectral ***:The results indicated that ethyl acetate and ethanol leaf extracts exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity compared to that of vitamin C(IC500.05,0.03 and 12 mg/m L,respectively).Both extracts showed potent anti-hyperglycemic activity evidenced by a significant decrease in serum glucose levels by 82.5% and 80.9% and a-amylase by45.2% and 53.6%,as compared with gliclazide 68% and 59.4%,*** of ethanol extract resulted in the isolation of 9 flavonoids including apigenin-7-O-arhamnosyl(1/2)-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-Dglucoside and ***:This study highlights the potential use of *** leaf extract enriched in flavones for the treatment of diabetes that would warrant further clinical trials investigation.
