With the increase of heat transfer problems in marine vehicles and submerged power stations in oceans,the search for an efficient finned-tube heat exchanger has become particularly *** purpose of the present investigation is to analyze and compare the thermal exchange and flow characteristics between five different fin designs,namely:a concentric circular finned-tube(CCFT),an eccentric circular finned-tube(ECFT),a perforated circular finned-tube(PCFT),a serrated circular finned-tube(SCFT),and a star-shaped finned-tube(S-SFT).The fin design and spacing impact on the thermal-flow performance of a heat exchanger was computed at Reynolds numbers varying from 4,300 to 15,*** the numerical results,and when the fin spacing has been changed from 2 to 7 mm,an enhancement in the Colburn factor and a reduction in the friction factor and fin performances were observed for all cases under *** criteria were checked to select the most efficient fin design:the performance evaluation criterion P EC,the global performance criterion G PC,and the mass global performance criterion m G *** the value of Reynolds number,the conventional CCFT provided the lowest performance evaluation criterion P EC,while the SCFT gave the highest amount of P *** most significant value of G PC was reached with the ECFT;however,G PC remained almost the same for CCFT,PCFT,SCFT,and *** terms of the mass global performance criterion,the S-SFT provides the highest m Gpc as compared with the full fins of CCFT(41-73%higher)and ECFT(29-54%higher).Thus,the heat exchanger with S-SFT is recommended to be used in the cooling of offshore energy systems.

Plasma Current Sheath motion in Coaxial Plasma Discharge

In this paper experiments and theoretical treatments [1] on 1.5 KJ coaxial plasma discharge device have been carried out to show, plasma current sheath, PCS, motion in coaxial plasma discharge by studying: the effect of nitrogen gas pressure in the range from 1 to 2.2 Torr and the axial position of PCS along the coaxial electrodes on the modification factor, actual drive parameter, PCS curvature and shape (thickness). Also the dynamics of PCS along the coaxial electrodes due to the combination effect of induced azimuthal and axial magnetic fields induction has been detected experimentally by using a magnetic probe technique.

A New Schiff Base Derivatives Designed to Bind metal Ion (Cu, Co): Thermodynamics and Biological Activity Studies

Schiff base synthesis is usually acid catalyzed and it usually requires refluxing the mixture of aldehydes and amine in ethanolic solution. Synthesis and characterization of Schiff base ligands derived from substituted amine and salicylaldehyde and their complexes (Cu2+, Co2+) are reported. The ligands and ligand-complexes were characterized by melting point, FTIR, CHN-elemental analysis and UV-Visible analysis. The UV-Visible and elemental analysis of complexes established (1:2) mole ratio (m:L). The stability constant and thermodynamic parameters (K, ΔG, ΔH, ΔS) were determined at different temperature (30 - 40)°C which established that the metal-complexes were very stable. The review describes the promising biological activities of Schiff base and their metal complexes.

Synergistic curative effect of chicory extract and cisplatin against thioacetamide-induced hepatocellular carcinoma

Aim:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the dominant form of primary liver cancer and is histologically and etiologically distinct from other forms of primary liver *** objective of this study was to elucidate the synergistic effect and the role of chicory extract[inulin(IN)]as a chemo-sensitizer for cisplatin(CIS)treatment of ***:Five groups of rats were treated for 4 *** groups consisted of the control group,a group receiving thioacetamide(TAA)(200 mg/kg b.w)in drinking water,a group injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of CIS(7.5 mg/kg b.w)in addition to TAA for 4 months,a group receiving oral doses of IN(10 mg/kg b.w)in addition to TAA for 4 months,and a group injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of CIS(7.5 mg/kg b.w)and IN(10 mg/kg b.w)plus TAA for 4 ***:The current data exhibited increment of serum and liver enzyme(alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase,creatine kinase,and lactate dehydrogenase)activity,serum lipid profi le levels(total lipids,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein,and very low-density lipoprotein),and a signifi cant increase inα-fetoprotein and bilirubin,accompanied with reduced total serum protein and albumin levels in a HCC rat ***,numerous alterations were detected in hepatic tissues of HCC rats,such as lymphocytic cell infi ltration,damage of hepatocytes,dilated congested central vein with degenerated endothelial cells,and congested blood sinusoids in addition to masson’s trichrome staining blue collagen fi bers in hepatocytes and central vein indicating hepatic fi *** of HCC rats with CIS or IN improved such deleterious effects,where IN is more effective than CIS,and the best effect can be observed in rats that received both CIS and ***:It could be concluded that IN in chicory extract acts as a chemo-sensitizer to CIS for treatment in an HCC rat model.

Electrochemical Polymerization of Acrylamide Film on mild Steel Electrode for Corrosion Protection

Polyacrylamide （PAm） film was electrosynthesized on mild steel by cyclic voltammetry using Ce （IV） salt-oxalic acid as supporting electrolyte. Polymerization was initiated by a free radical that was formed by the fast reaction of oxalic acid and Ce （IV）. The electrolysis of the reaction solution resulted in regeneration of Ce （IV）, which could oxidize oxalic acid to produce radicals. The effect of temperature on the yield of electroinitiated polymerization was performed. The potential sweep rates were changed to achieve the polymer film with different thickness. Protective properties of the PAm film for corrosion of mild steel in 1 m NaCI aqueous solution were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS）. The structure of PAm film on mild steel was investigated by using physicochemical methods such as elemental analysis of C, H, N, physical chemical methods and FTIR spectrometer. The influence of scan repetition and scan rate on the formation of polymer film was studied at a current density of 1 mA/cm2. The results of these studies reveal that the corrosion resistance of the PAm-coated mild steel was significantly higher and the corrosion rate was considerably lower than that of uncoated steel. The PAm film was formed with lower sweep rate leading to more positive shift of corrosion potential and greater charge transfer resistance, reflecting higher inhibition for corrosion of the mild steel.

Organic Rankine Cycle Based Geothermal Energy for Power Generation in Egypt

Low temperature geothermal resources are located in many areas and represent a high potential energy resource. One of the most common technologies, efficient and to exploit this type of resource is the binary cycle technology. Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is one of the main types of binary cycles. Electricity generation from low enthalpy geothermal energy using ORC is a talented technology. This paper addresses the design of binary cycle power plant utilizing one of the low temperature geothermal resource of temperature 92°C using four alternative working fluids: Butane, Isobutane, Pentane and 1,1,1,3,3-Pentafluoropropan (R245fa). Bir Nabi is the well under consideration which located in the Eastern desert, Egypt. Three operation parameters: geothermal temperature, reinjection temperature and geothermal flow rate are taken into consideration to analyze the performance of the power plant for different fluids. A performance analysis is conducted on ORC binary power plant using mATLAB programming to study the variation of output power and efficiency with the operation parameters. Also, the effect of these parameters on the area of ORC binary cycle power plant components;preheater, evaporator and condenser is presented. The geothermal resources temperatures are in the range of 90°C to130°C, the mass flow rate of the geothermal fluid ranges between 10 kg/s and 50 kg/s and reinjection temperature ranges from 30°C to 70°C. The results indicate that, the highest output power and plant efficiency are obtained with Pentane.

ALDH 1A1 and caveolin-1 expression in triple negative breast cancer

Objective Triple negative breast cancer(TNBC) contains a high proportion of breast cancer stem cells(BCSCs) and exhibits resistance to chemotherapy treatments. Therefore, the identification of BCSCs that are novel molecular targets may improve patient survival. Aldehyde dehydrogenase-1(ALDH 1 A1) has been considered a cancer stem cell marker in different tumors. Caveolin-1(Cav-1), a membrane transporter protein, regulates cancer chemo-resistance and stem cell signaling. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of ALDH 1 A1 and Cav-1 in patients with TNBC by immunohistochemistry(IHC) and to correlate their expression with clinical and pathological *** Paraffin blocks of 30 breast cancer patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy between January 2013 and December 2016 in Zagazig University Hospitals(Egypt) were evaluated. Antibodies to ALDH 1 A1 and Cav-1 were used. Results ALDH 1 A1 and Cav-1 significantly correlated with tumor size. A significant association between ALDH 1 A1/Cav-1 IHC staining and relapse was found. Cav-1 and ALDH 1 A1-positive expression correlated with a short 3-year disease-free survival rate and a 3-year overall survival rate(P meters and shortened survival. Expression of both markers was significantly positively correlated with each other(P < 0.001). ALDH 1 A1 and Cav-1 could be potential therapeutic targets in breast cancer.
