Investigation of rarely studied gravel layers found in the loess in Shandong Province,eastern China,reveals the fabric characteristics of two gravel layers(G1,G2)and the sedimentary characteristics of loess at the typical and well-preserved Heiyu section(HY),where,to determine the paleoclimatic changes during Marine Isotope Stage 3a.Optically stimulated luminescence dates of the HY formation range from 0.26±0.02 ka to 39.00±2.00 ka.In addition,the ages of G1 and G2 were estimated using the Bayesian model to be 39.60-40.50 and 29.00-29.50 ka.G1 and G2 are mainly composed of fine and medium gravel,both of which were subangular to subrounded limestone,with gravel directions to NE and E.The average flow velocity,average depth,and flood peak flow of G1 are 1.10 m/s,0.49 m,and 37.04 m^(3)/s,respectively,calculated using the flow energy method,whereas those of G2 are 0.98 m/s,0.38 m,and 18.38 m^(3)/s,respectively.Analysis of climate proxy indices show that the sedimentary environment of the gravel and loess in HY might be a regional response to global change.

Heatwave exposure has increased dramatically because of climate warming and population growth,along with their interactive effects.However,effective adaptation measures can reduce these impacts.Nonetheless,the dynamic changes,regional inequality in adaptive capacity and their potential contributions to reducing exposure in the future remain unclear.This study quantifies the impact of adaptive capacity and underscores regional variations in heatwave magnitudes,population exposure and adaptation levels in China.We projected the future adaptive capacity using air-conditioner penetration,factoring in climate cooling requirements and individuals'purchasing power.Utilising population and gross domestic product(GDP)data from four Shared Socioeconomic Pathways(SSP1,SSP2,SSP3 and SSP5)and daily temperature data from four SSP-based emission scenarios(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5),we estimated heatwave duration,population exposure and avoided impacts through adaptation across China and its sub-regions.Results show a substantial increase in heatwave duration in Southwest and Southern China,especially under the SSP5-8.5 scenario,with a projection of 163.2±36.7 d during 2081-2100.Under the SSP3|SSP3-7.0 scenario,total exposure reaches 156.4±76.8 billion person d per year,which is the highest among all scenarios and 23 times greater than that in 1986-2005 without adaptation.Upon considering adaptation measures,a noteworthy reduction in population exposure is observed,especially in the SSP3|SSP3-7.0 and SSP5JSSP5-8.5 scenarios,with reductions of(62.6±3.9)%and(65.8±5.1)%,respectively,compared with the scenario without adaptation during 2081-2100.Remarkable regional disparities in avoided impacts are also evident,with variations of up to 50%across different regions.The implementation of effective and environmentally friendly adaptation measures can notably address climate change,thereby alleviating the profound threats posed to human well-being.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of acupoint catgut embedding and acupuncture on simple obesity by Meta-analysis. METHODS: Studies on clinical randomized controlled trials of acupoint catgut embedding for simple obesity which were published from January 2015 to November 2020 were searched in Cochrane Central Register of Control Trials(Central), Pub Med, China Science and Technology Journal Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database and Wanfang databases. And those that met the inclusion criteria were screened. Rev Man5.3 was used for Meta-analysis. The “Risk of Bias” tool was used to evaluate the quality of included studies. R studio software was used for the measurement of publication bias. RESULTS: A total of 33 studies were included for Metaanalysis, including 2685 patients with simple obesity. Meta-analysis results showed the comparison of effectiveness rate was relative risk(RR) = 1.12, 95%CI(1.08, 1.16), body mass index(BMI) was mean difference(MD) =-1.12, 95%CI(-2.09,-0.14), waist circumference was MD =-2.14, 95%CI(-4.22,-0.06), and body mass was MD =-2.36, 95%CI(-3.99,-0.73). On the basis of diet and exercise intervention, the effectiveness rate [RR = 1.12, 95%CI(1.05, 1.19)], BMI [MD =-0.88, 95%CI(-1.35,-0.40)], waist circumference [MD =-1.10, 95%CI(-4.27, 2.07)], and body mass [MD =-0.68, 95%CI(-2.90, 1.54)]. The risk of bias of included literatures was low. CONCLUSIONS: Acupoint catgut embedding therapy was slightly better than acupuncture therapy in most of the outcomes. Moreover, the treatment frequency of acupoint catgut embedding is less with larger stimulation intensity, which is more conducive to clinical promotion.

Thermal energy storage(TES)systems based on molten salt are widely used in concentrating solar power(CSP)plants.The investigation of the corrosion behavior of alloy materials in molten salt is crucial for the correct selection of alloy materials and the design of TES systems.In this study,the corrosion behavior of 304,310S,316,and In625 alloys in molten chloride salts(27 mol%NaCl-22 mol%KCl-51 mol%MgCl,)was investigated.The evolution of mass loss of the alloy samples with corrosion time and temperature and the analysis of the experimental results by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)revealed the corrosion mechanism of the alloy samples in molten chloride salts.The main factors affecting the corrosion of the alloy samples were further analyzed.It was found that the loose multi-layer corrosion was formed on the surface of the corroded alloy samples with the increase in corrosion degree.Moreover,the experimental results.showed that Mo played a positive role in improving the corrosion resistance of the alloy samples because the presence of Mo could inhibit the outward diffusion of alloying element Cr.This work enriches the molten salt corrosion database and provides a reference for the selection of alloy materials for TES systems with potential application in CSP plants.

BACKGROUND In addition to the non-specific symptomatology of ocular rosacea,currently,there are no reliable diagnostic tests for the disease,which may lead to its misdiagnosis.Here,we report a case of ocular rosacea presenting with multiple recurrent chalazion on both eyelids.CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old female patient presented with multiple chalazion and dry eyes in both eyes,with no facial erythema.Initial management done were application of steroid eye ointment on both eyelids,hot compresses,and eyelid margin cleaning;noting that there was no relief of symptoms.Surgical excision of the chalazion was done on both eyes,however,bilateral recurrence occurred post-operatively.The pathological studies showed infiltration of a small amount of fibrous tissue with many chronic inflammatory cells.Immunohistochemistry studies were positive for LL-37.Resolution of the chalazion occurred after oral administration of doxycycline and azithromycin.CONCLUSION Our findings show that ophthalmologists should recognize the ocular manifestations of skin diseases.

Objective:To provide high-quality clinical evidence of the efficacy of Tibetan medicine Honghua Ruyi(HHRY)pills for endometriosis-associated dysmenorrhea.Methods:This study constitutes a multicenter,randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled trial encompassing a three-menstrual cycle intervention followed by a three-menstrual cycle follow-up period.A total of 164 eligible females with endometriosis-associated dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into HHRY pills and placebo groups in a 1:1 ratio.The primary outcome included dysmenorrhea symptoms assessed using Visual Analog Scale(VAS)scores and quality of life,whereas the secondary outcome measures included the maximum VAS for non-menstrual pelvic pain,duration of pain episodes(in days),frequency and quantity of the consumption of ibuprofen sustained-release capsules(or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs),and days off work/study for staff/student due to dysmenorrhea,ovarian cyst,and/or pelvic nodule size.The safety was monitored throughout the treatment period.All the analyses were based on the intention-to-treat principle.For continuous outcomes,simple or multiple linear regressions were used to estimate the differences between the HHRY pills and placebo groups,with categorical data expressed as the number and percentage of occurrences.Differences were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test.The predefined analysis was adjusted for concomitant treatment,a variable considered to be associated with outcomes but unaffected by treatment allocation.Estimates of treatment effects were reported with 95%confidence intervals.Two-tailed P values≤.05 were considered statistically significant.Conclusion:Positive results from this trial,upon completion would provide robust evidence for the efficacy and safety of HHRY pills in treating dysmenorrhea in patients with endometriosis.

Background:The molecular mechanism underlying the involvement of the Transferrin receptor(TFRC)in cervical cancer remains poorly understood.This study aims to elucidate the role of TFRC in cervical cancer by analyzing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)and Genotype-Tissue Expression(GTEx)databases.Methods:TFRC protein expression was obtained from Human Protein Altas(HPA).All datas were collected from TCGA and GTEx.In this study,we analyzed the expression of TFRC in cervical cancer and its clinical significance.Through Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)and Gene set enrichment analyses(GSEA),investigated the related molecular pathways of TFRC.The relationship between TFRC and immune infiltration was then examined.The prognosis of different immune cell subsets was then analyzed after dividing cervical cancer patients into high and low expression of TFRC groups.Results:TFRC is highly expressed in various tumor tissues compared to control normal tissues,including cervical cancer.An increased expression of TFRC was associated with higher Tumor(T)and Node(N)stage,as well as a higher clinical stage.Kaplan–meier(KM)survival analysis investigated that higher TFRC expression patients have a poor overall survival(OS),disease specific survival(DSS)and progress free interval(PFI).Both KEGG and GSEA enriched signaling pathway by high TFRC and low TFRC groups.There was a significant negative linear correlation between TFRC expression and immune infiltration.TFRC affects the prognosis of cervical cancer patients through immune pathway.Conclusions:Cervical cancer patients with TFRC expression may have a worse prognosis.

Background:CD8 positive T lymphocytes and natural killer(NK)cells in the peripheral blood of cervical cancer patients exhibit varying sensitivities to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Methods:A total of 50 healthy peoples and 60 cervical cancer patients were recruited.The patients with cervical cancer were separated into two groups:radiation and chemotherapy,and blood sample were collected before and after treatment.Data on the proportion of CD8 positive T lymphocytes and NK cells were gathered for analytical evaluation.Results:Compared to healthy individuals,patients with cervical cancer exhibit a reduced proportion of CD8 positive T cells within their peripheral blood.And for patients with cervical cancer,radiation therapy has been found to be more effective than chemotherapy in increasing the proportion of CD8 positive T lymphocytes and NK cells.Conclusions:These results suggest that radiation therapy increases the levels of CD8 positive T lymphocytes and NK cells within the peripheral blood of patients with cervical cancer.The study hypothesis that the changes in the percentage of CD8 positive T lymphocytes may serve as a potential indicator for predicting treatment efficacy.

Sparse asymptotic minimum variance based bearing estimation algorithm for a single vector hydrophone

For underwater target detection using a single vector hydrophone,sparse asymptotic minimum variance(SAMV)method is used to estimate the target bearing.The SAMV discretizes the entire scanning space and the target bearing is located at the position of the discrete direction.The SAMV algorithm utilizes the sparsity of the spatial signal to improve the estimation performance of the target bearing.Background noise level(BNL)of the bearing estimation of SAMV algorithm is lower than those of the conventional beam forming(CBF)method and minimum variance distortionless response(MVDR)method for different signal noise ratios(SNRs).When the SNR is higher than 0 d B,the direction-finding error of this algorithm is less than 2°.Moreover,the SAMV algorithm has a better dimensional orientation resolution capability.The experimental results show that the SAMV algorithm gives a bearing and time recording map with a lower BNL,which effectively verifies the effectiveness of SAMV algorithm in terms of underwater target detection.
