Using machine learning to predict habitat suitability of sloth bears at multiple spatial scales

Background:Habitat resources occur across the range of spatial scales in the *** environmental resources are characterized by upper and lower limits,which define organisms’distribution in their *** respond to these resources at the optimal spatial ***,multi-scale assessments are critical to identifying the correct spatial scale at which habitat resources are most influential in determining the specieshabitat *** study used a machine learning algorithm random forest(RF),to evaluate the scaledependent habitat selection of sloth bears(Melursus ursinus)in and around Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve,Madhya Pradesh,***:We used 155 spatially rarified occurrences out of 248 occurrence records of sloth bears obtained from camera trap captures(n=36)and scats located(n=212)in the *** calculated focal statistics for 13 habitat variables across ten spatial scales surrounding each presence-absence record of sloth ***(>5000 m)and small(1000–2000 m)spatial scales were the most dominant scales at which sloth bears perceived the habitat *** the habitat covariates,farmlands and degraded forests were the essential patches associated with sloth bear occurrences,followed by sal and dry deciduous *** final habitat suitability model was highly accurate and had a very low out-of-bag(OOB)error *** high accuracy rate was also obtained using alternate validation ***:Human-dominated landscapes are characterized by expanding human populations,changing landuse patterns,and increasing habitat *** and degraded habitats constitute~40%of the landform in the buffer zone of the *** of the management implications may be identifying the highly suitable bear habitats in human-modified landscapes and integrating them with the existing conservation landscapes.

Multi-scale habitat selection and impacts of climate change on the distribution of four sympatric meso-carnivores using random forest algorithm

Background:The habitat resources are structured across different spatial scales in the environment,and thus animals perceive and select habitat resources at different spatial *** to adopt the scale-dependent framework in species habitat relationships may lead to biased ***-scale species distribution models(SDMs)can thus improve the predictive ability as compared to single-scale *** study outlines the importance of multi-scale modeling in assessing the species habitat relationships and may provide a methodological framework using a robust algorithm to model and predict habitat suitability maps(HSMs)for similar multi-species and multi-scale ***:We used a supervised machine learning algorithm,random forest(RF),to assess the habitat relationships of Asiatic wildcat(Felis lybica ornata),jungle cat(Felis chaus),Indian fox(Vulpes bengalensis),and golden-jackal(Canis aureus)at ten spatial scales(500-5000 m)in human-dominated *** calculated out-of-bag(OOB)error rates of each predictor variable across ten scales to select the most influential spatial scale *** scale optimization(OOB rates)indicated that model performance was associated with variables at multiple spatial *** species occurrence tended to be related strongest to predictor variables at broader scales(5000 m).Multivariate RF models indicated landscape composition to be strong predictors of the Asiatic wildcat,jungle cat,and Indian fox *** the same time,topographic and climatic variables were the most important predictors determining the golden jackal *** models predicted range expansion in all four species under future climatic ***:Our results highlight the importance of using multiscale distribution models when predicting the distribution and species habitat *** wide adaptability of meso-carnivores allows them to persist in human-dominated regions and may even thrive in disturbed habi

Exploiting Data Science for Measuring the Performance of Technology Stocks

The rise or fall of the stock markets directly affects investors’interest and ***,it is necessary to measure the performance of stocks in the market in advance to prevent our assets from suffering significant *** our proposed study,six supervised machine learning(ML)strategies and deep learning(DL)models with long short-term memory(LSTM)of data science was deployed for thorough analysis and measurement of the performance of the technology *** discussion are Apple Inc.(AAPL),Microsoft Corporation(MSFT),Broadcom Inc.,Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited(TSM),NVIDIA Corporation(NVDA),and Avigilon Corporation(AVGO).The datasets were taken from the Yahoo Finance API from 06-05-2005 to 06-05-2022(seventeen years)with 4280 *** already noted,multiple studies have been performed to resolve this problem using linear regression,support vectormachines,deep long short-termmemory(LSTM),and many other *** this research,the Hidden Markov Model(HMM)outperformed other employed machine learning ensembles,tree-based models,the ARIMA(Auto Regressive IntegratedMoving Average)model,and long short-term memory with a robust mean accuracy score of *** statistical analyses and measurements for machine learning ensemble algorithms,the Long Short-TermModel,and ARIMA were also carried out for further investigation of the performance of advanced models for forecasting time series ***,the proposed research found the best model to be HMM,and LSTM was the second-best model that performed well in all aspects.A developedmodel will be highly recommended and helpful for early measurement of technology stock performance for investment or withdrawal based on the future stock rise or fall for creating smart environments.

Holographic particle localization under multiple scattering

We introduce a computational framework that incorporates multiple scattering for large-scale threedimensional(3-D)particle localization using single-shot in-line *** holographic techniques rely on single-scattering models that become inaccurate under high particle densities and large refractive index *** multiple scattering solvers become computationally prohibitive for large-scale problems,which comprise millions of voxels within the scattering *** approach overcomes the computational bottleneck by slicewise computation of multiple scattering under an efficient recursive *** the forward model,each recursion estimates the next higher-order multiple scattered field among the object *** the inverse model,each order of scattering is recursively estimated by a nonlinear optimization *** nonlinear inverse model is further supplemented by a sparsity promoting procedure that is particularly effective in localizing 3-D distributed *** show that our multiple-scattering model leads to significant improvement in the quality of 3-D localization compared to traditional methods based on single scattering *** experiments demonstrate robust inverse multiple scattering,allowing reconstruction of 100 million voxels from a single 1-megapixel hologram with a sparsity *** performance bound of our approach is quantified in simulation and validated *** work promises utilization of multiple scattering for versatile large-scale applications.

Vibrations of FGM thin cylindrical shells with exponential volume fraction law

In this paper, the influence of an exponential volume fraction law on the vibration frequencies of thin functionally graded cylindrical shells is studied. Material properties in the shell thickness direction are graded in accordance with the exponential law. Expressions for the strain-displacement and curvature-displacement relationships are taken from Love＇s thin shell theory. The Rayleigh-Ritz approach is used to derive the shell eigenfrequency equation. Axial modal dependence is assumed in the characteristic beam functions. Natural frequencies of the shells are observed to be dependent on the constituent volume fractions. The results are compared with those available in the literature for the validity of the present methodology.

Long term outcomes for patients treated with half-fluence photodynamic therapy for chronic central serous chorioretinopathy: a case series

A case series was used to evaluate the efficacy of halffluence photodynamic therapy（PDT） for chronic central serous chorioretinopathy（CSCR）. Patients were treated with standard-dose verteporfin and half-fluence PDT. Totally 13 eyes from 11 patients were included. The mean patient age was 52.0 y. There was a mean reduction in central retinal thickness of 107.0 microns. Totally 7/13 eyes（53.8%） achieved resolution of subretinal fluid（SRF） on optical coherence tomography（OCT） scan after 1 treatment with PDT. Four eyes had further treatment with PDT; of these 1 eye achieved resolution of SRF. Seven of the 13 eyes（53.8%） achieved an improvement of more than 5 ETDRS letters. One patient experienced acute macula oedema 1 d post PDT treatment. These results support the hypothesis that half-fluence PDT can have a positive effect in chronic CSCR for a gain in visual acuity and reduction in sub-retinal fluid. Acute macula oedema is a rare but potential adverse effect of half-fluence PDT.
