Deploying an Interactive GIS System for Facility and Asset Management: Case Study-Ministry of Education, Kuwait

Geographical Information System (GIS) can be considered the core of the Interactive Facilities Management Environment (iFaME) framework in managing different facilities on the building bases. This study aims at building a comprehensive geodatabase for different elements of infrastructure facilities and services on the building bases for a selected number of schools and developing a GIS-based iFaME interactive application to manage different facilities at the school level in Kuwait. The iFaME is a two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) desktop application. It is intended to take planners, decision makers, and maintenance experts inside the building to provide an interactive GIS platform to manage, visualize, query, maintain, and update the database related to school assets and facilities. The Autodesk Revit software was used to produce 3D building information models (BIM) for the selected schools. It provides accurate geometrical representation of the school building elements in an integrated data environment. The iFaME application is integrated with the Revit BIM models and the STAR-APIC elyx 3D software solution. With the development of the iFaME applications, the facility managers in the MoE could establish greater control over the space allocation and management, asset management, emergency planning, and other areas of facility management. The school managers and maintenance engineers are considered among the most beneficiaries from this application. The school managers will monitor the maintenance activities all the time, while the maintenance engineers will use the application as a container for maintenance orders, and on the same time to document what they accomplished on daily basis. The iFaME application will reduce the maintenance cost of school assets and facilities in addition to increase their efficiency.

Recently,the topic of bioresorbable metals,with much focus on magnesium for bone implant applications,has been an area of considerable ***,it could be argued that magnesium is the most promising biodegradable material currently being studied for use as an orthopedic skeletal fixation and joint replacement ***,the fast degradation rate of magnesium-based materials in the physiological environment negatively affects their mechanical integrity and hence limits their biomedical *** most critical conditions may occur when the implant is subjected to a corrosive physiological environment and a fluctuating load during daily ***,numerous studies have been published on the synthesis,alloying,and coating of magnesium to control degradation rate and increase strength and *** the materials and strategies employed to achieve these goals,magnesium-based biocomposites have exhibited superior mechanical properties and acceptable ***,there is a lack of understanding of their corrosion and corrosion-fatigue *** understanding is necessary to qualify these new materials for various bio-implant *** this end,this paper reviews the recent advances in the corrosion and corrosion-fatigue behavior of magnesium-based *** also provides a comprehensive discussion of different factors that influence the biocompatibility,corrosion,fatigue,and corrosion-fatigue of magnesium-based biocomposites as potential implant *** study emphasizes that despite the abundance of various studies on the corrosion behavior of magnesium-based biocomposites,there is an imperative need for more fatigue and corrosion-fatigue studies.

Apple fruits have components of therapeutic *** components,to a great extent,decline or decompose during post-harvest that negatively affect fruit *** fruit-filming has proved useful in maintaining these *** study aims,therefore,at enhancing Chitosan coating-film performance by mixing with some olive wastes extracts of leaf and pomace *** fruits were sprayed with six different coating formulas including chitosan-water wax coating,in addition to the uncoated ***,the total phenolic,flavonoids,antioxidants,pigments,weight loss,decay area,and microstructure were *** bioactive substances drastically changed in uncoated rather than coated ***,weight loss and decay area significantly increased in uncoated ***,the addition of olive leaf extract to chitosan coating films meaningfully reduced the gradual decline in total phenolic,flavonoids and *** pomace extract recorded the lowest influencing on anthocyanins during storage at 4±1C for 35 ***,both olive leaf and pomace extracts enhanced the coating distribution,due to no pores were observed in the fruits’***,incorporation of olive leaf extracts with 2%into chitosan coating solution was the best formula comparable with the ***,olive wastes extracts,incorporated into chitosan fruit coatings;relatively improve the nutritional quality of apple fruits during post-harvest.

Physico-Chemical, Organolyptical and Microbiological Characteristics of Substituted Cupcake by Potato Processing Residues

Utilization of potato processing residues to produce a low caloric cupcake in present study was targeted. The functional properties of wheat flour (WF 72%) and dried potato peel varieties [Hermus (PPH) and Russet (PPR)] were carried out. Consequently, WF was partially substituted by both potato peels (PP) at 5% - 20% to prepare mixtures for cupcake making. Approximate chemical composition and physical characteristics were determined. Rheological parameters of prepared formulas were assayed using Mixolab. Moreover, total phenolic compounds (TPC) and relative antioxidant activity (AOA) were evaluated. Quality parameters such as thiobarbituric acid (TBA), staling and microbiological attributes during storage were determined. In addition, a sensory evaluation of different substituted cupcake was performed as well. Results indicated that PPR had the highest water absorption capacity (WAC), oil absorption capacity (OAC) and swelling capacity (SC) followed by PPH then WF flours. Indeed, substituted WF with both PP at 5% and 10% didn’t influence the thermo-mechanical properties including dough time development, stability, viscosity, gluten and starch characteristics drastically. Likewise, this substitution levels didn’t affect the organoleptic properties which were confirmed by panelists, cupcake external and cross sections. Substituted WF by 5% - 10% PP recorded sensory scores aftermost WF. Mildly, WF cupcake was higher in protein and fat contents than WF-PP cupcakes while lower in crude fiber. The WF-PP cupcakes at different substituted levels recorded lower energy value than WF cupcakes. Arguably, increasing both PP levels increased the TPC and AOA especially for WF-PPR cupcakes. Afterwards, WF-PPR 15% and 20% recorded the highest TPC and AOA contents to be 2.32 mg GAE g-1 dw and 3.44 μmol TE g-1 dw, respectively. The case study is aimed at providing a more thorough analysis of a case of Epilepsy presented with an unusual aura of cough. The study hopes to generate an interest for further studies into the topic and focuses on abnormal unusual presentations of auras. Cough as an aura is not a common presentation. Any stereotyped repeated clinical phenomenon should consider being epileptic in its origin.

Microstructure, Corrosion, and Fatigue Properties of Alumina-Titania Nanostructured Coatings

Air Plasma spray process was used to deposit a conventional and nanostructured Al2O3-13 wt% TiO2 coatings on a stainless steel substrates. Morphology of the powder particles, microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were characterized by XRD and SEM. Potentiodynamic polarization tests and electrochemical Impedance Spectro- scopy (EIS) were used to analyze the corrosion of the coated substrate in 3.5% NaCl solutions to determine the opti-mum conditions for corrosion protection. The fatigue strength and hardness of the coatings were investigated. The experimental data indicated that the nanostructured coated samples exhibited higher hardness and fatigue strength compared to the conventional coated samples. On the other hand, the conventional coatings showed a better localized corrosion resistance than the nanostructured coatings.

Effect of Atrial Fibrillation on Acute Ischemic Stroke Severity

Objectives: To assess the impact of atrial fibrillation on stroke severity and short-term (1 month) mortality. Materials and Methods: Totally 200 patients admitted to Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital were recruited and diagnosed clinically to have acute ischemic stroke within 3 days. Patients with hemorrhagic infarctions were excluded. History taking about previous heart disease was taken, full general and neurological examinations were done. Full metabolic profile, full cardiac investigations, carotid duplex, MRI brain stroke protocol with initial clinical evaluation and after 1 month re-evaluation using (NIHSS ) scale. Results: All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography which revealed absence of “A” wave corresponding to atrial fibrillation in 33 patients (16.5%). Those Patients with atrial fibrillation had a median NIHSS score of 11.00 with IQR of 6.00 - 18.50 at admission and 6.00 with IQR of 2.00 - 14.50 after one month. Patients with atrial fibrillation showed significantly higher NIHSS at admission than patients in sinus rhythm, P el stenosis in 117 (79.1%) patients. 51 (34.4%) patients had lacunar infarction, 65 (43.9%) patients had partial anterior circulation infarction, 25 (16.2%) patients had posterior circulation infarction and 7 (4.7%) patients had total anterior circulation infarction. 111 (75%) patients showed leucoaraiosis. Conclusion: Atrial fibrillation was found not to have significantly statistical effect on stroke severity and short term mortality.

Could Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Be a Routine Investigation for Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment?

Objectives: To study the ambulatory measured blood pressure (ABPM) profile in normotensive patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Patients and Methods: The study was designed as a case control study including 50male patients with mild cognitive impairment in the age group of 30 - 50 years old. The control group included 30 volunteers with no cognitive impairment and in the same age group (30 - 50 years old) and same gender. Mini-mental estate examination, office and ABP monitoring (ABPM) and brain MRI scans were done for cases and controls. Results: Thirty patients (60%) with MCI revealed a non-dipper blood pressure pattern. Sleeping systolic blood pressure and sleeping systolic load were significantly higher in patients with MCI than in normal volunteers (p = 0.01). MRI brain showed more white matter lesions (WMLs) in patients with MCI than in normal volunteers;however, this didn’t reach significance level (p = 0.056). Conclusion: MCI in normotensive young adult patients could reflect an abnormal circadian blood pressure rhythm. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring could be an essential investigation in young adult MCI patients.

Small for size syndrome difficult dilemma: Lessons from 10 years single centre experience in living donor liver transplantation

AIM To analyze the incidence, risk factors, prevention, treatment and outcome of small for size syndrome(SFSS) after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT). METHODS Through-out more than 10 years: During the period from April 2003 to the end of 2013, 174 adult-to-adults LDLT(A-ALDLT) had been performed at National Liver Institute, Menoufiya University, Shibin elkoom, Egypt. We collected the data of those patients to do this cohort study that is a single-institution retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database analyzing the incidence, risk factors, prevention, treatment and outcome of SFSS in a period started from the end of 2013 to the end of 2015. The median period of follow-up reached 40.50 m, range(0-144 m). RESULTS SFSS was diagnosed in 20(11.5%) of our recipients. While extra-small graft [small for size graft(SFSG)], portal hypertension, steatosis and left lobe graft were significant predictors of SFSS in univariate analysis(P = 0.00, 0.04, 0.03, and 0.00 respectively); graft size was the only independent predictor of SFSS on multivariate analysis(P = 0.03). On the other hand, there was lower incidence of SFSS in patients with SFSG who underwent splenectomy [4/10(40%) SFSS vs 3/7(42.9%) no SFSS] but without statistical significance, However, there was none significant lower incidence of the syndrome in patients with right lobe(RL) graft when drainage of the right anterior and/or posterior liver sectors by middle hepatic vein, V5, V8, and/or right inferior vein was done [4/10(28.6%) SFSS vs 52/152(34.2%) no SFSS]. The 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-and 10-year survival in patients with SFSS were 30%, 30%, 25%, 25%, 25% and 25% respectively, while, the 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-and 10-year survival in patients without SFSS were 70.1%, 65.6%, 61.7%, 61%, 59.7%, and 59.7% respectively, with statistical significant difference(P = 0.00).
