Multiple Phase Change Materials for Performance Enhancement of a Solar Dryer with Double Pass Collector

The fluctuation in drying temperature influences the food products’quality and drying time significantly during the drying process using an indirect solar *** of the effective methods to reduce these variations in the temperature is based on thermal storage materials to control the drying *** experimental investigation is presented in this study to evaluate the performance of an indirect solar dryer with air double pass using multiple phase change materials(PCM)as thermal storage *** PCMs with different melting points are used to store the available heat energy during peak sunshine periods and reduce the drying temperature *** tests on a food product sample are conducted in three cases,the first was without PCMs using natural *** second and third cases are based on forced convection with and without using multiple PCMs under Baghdad city *** results showed that;approximately a steady temperature of hot drying air was obtained during relatively low ambient temperatures when the dryer was incorporated with multiple *** drying time of the product sample for the natural,forced convection without PCMs and forced with PCMs was 87,72 and 47 h,*** higher performance of the dryer was for the forced convection with *** reduction percentage in drying time was about 17.2%and 46%for the forced convection without and with PCMs respectively compared with natural *** average drying rate for the natural,forced without PCMs and forced convection with PCMs was 0.0093,0.0135 and 0.0172 kg/h,*** enhancement in thermal efficiency of the solar collector and drying chamber with multiple PCMs was 43%and 25.5%,respectively,compared with a typical solar dryer.

Syndecan-1-coating of interleukin-17-producing natural killer T cells provides a specific method for their visualization and analysis

Natural killer T cells(NKT cells) are innate-like T cells that acquire effector functions while developing in the thymus, polarize into three distinct functional subsets viz. NKT1, NKT2 and NKT17 cells that produce interferon(IFN)-γ, interleukin(IL)-4 and IL-17, respectively. However, there has been no unique surface markers that define each subsets, forcing investigators to use intracellular staining of transcription factors and cytokines in combination of surface markers to distinguish among these subsets. Intracellular staining, however, causes apoptosis and prevents subsequent utilization of NKT cells in functional in vitro and in vivo assays that require viable cells. This limitation has significantly impeded understanding the specific properties of each subset and their interactions with each other. Therefore, there has been fervent efforts to find a specific markers for each NKT cell subset. We have recently identified that syndecan-1(SDC-1; CD138) as a specific surface marker of NKT17 cells. This discovery now allows visualization of NKT17 in situ and study of their peripheral tissue distribution, characteristics of their TCR and viable sorting for in vitro and in vivo analysis. In addition, it lays the ground working for investigating significance of SDC-1 expression on this particular subset in regulating their roles in host defense and glucose metabolism.

Traditionally,Hofmeister effect was understood on the basis of hydration abilities of *** studies found short-range structuring effects of ions on water which shifted the attention from ion-water interaction to ion-protein *** this study,ATR-FTIR spectroscopy at different RH is used to study the effect of a representative Kosmotrope(MgSO4),Chaotrope(NH4NO3)and neutral(KCl)salt on *** salting out,salting in and neutral effects of salts on glycine are found aligned with Hofmeister ***,direct interaction of kosmotrope anion(SO2-4)with the glycine is observed experimentally which validates the recent idea of ion-protein *** detailed studies will be needed for deeper insight.

Gold nanoparticles(AuNPs) have been attractive for nanomedicine because of their pronounced optical ***,we customerized the methods to synthesize two types of gold nanostars,Au nanostars-1 and Au nanostars-2,which have different spire lengths and optical properties,and also spherical *** to nanospheres,gold nanostars were less toxic to a variety of cells,including *** nanostars-1 and Au nanostars-2 also manifested a similar pattern of tissue distribution upon in vivo administration in mice to that of nanospheres,and but reveled less liver retention than *** to their strong absorption in the near-infrared(NIR),Au nanostars-2 induced a strong hyperthermia effect in vitro upon excitation at 808 nm,and elicited a robust photothermal therapy(PTT) efficacy in ablating tumors in a mouse model of orthotopic breast cancer using 4T1 breast cancer ***,Au nanostars-1 showed a great capability to enhance the Raman signal through surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS) in 4T1 *** combined results opened a new avenue to develop Au nanostars for cancer imaging and therapy.

Background Neurodevelopmental disorders are a heterogeneous group of conditions that manifest as delays or deviations in the acquisition of expected developmental milestones and behavioral *** spectrum disorder(ASD)is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in communication and social interaction and by repetitive and restricted patterns of behavior,interests and *** aim of this review is to discuss the clinical features of the differential diagnoses of ASD that are prevalent among preschoolers,focusing on their similarities and *** sources The international medical literature search was conducted using PubMed and was revised regarding the subject using single and/or combined keywords as follows:differential diagnosis,preschoolers,diagnostic challenge,attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,intellectual disability,high abilities/giftedness,childhood apraxia of speech,social communication disorder,Landau–Kleffner syndrome,stereotyped movement disorder and excessive screen *** We describe conditions commonly found in clinical practice,taking ASD as a *** addressed converging and divergent aspects of behavior,cognition,communication,language,speech,socialization,and stereotypes for the diagnosis of ASD and other disorders identified as potential differential or comorbid *** The ranking and characterization of symptoms appear to be essential for better understanding the underlying common ground between children with developmental disorders and children with ASD,thus properly diagnosing and directing social,professional,or medication *** detailed discussion adds to the literature since,although ASD differential diagnoses are frequently mentioned and discussed in textbooks and journal articles,they rarely occupy a prominent place as we aimed herein.

A New Hybrid System Design for Thermal Energy Storage

Due to some serious environmental problems like global warming and greenhouse effect,studies on solar energy systems are being conducted all over the *** studies conducted in recent years are on hybrid designs in which solar energy systems can realize both electricity and heat production at the same *** this way,both electrical energy and heat energy can be generated from the same system In this study,the design and analysis of a concentrated solar air collector with a heat storage unit were carried *** the solar air collector,heat energy was depot in paraffin wax,and the electrical energy which was stored in the battery using the PV(photovoltaic)modules in the system enabled the operation of the system *** experiments which aimed at determining system performance were carried out in winter when the ambient temperature was *** experiments were performed with or without a heat storage unit,and a comparative analysis was *** was found that the temperature of the air released from the collector ranged from 15°C to 40°C when the exterior temperature was-5°*** average efficiency of the concentrated system without the heat storage unit was calculated as 67%.The average efficiency of the concentrated system with the heat storage unit was calculated as 96%.

Temperature effect on the corrosion and passivation characterization of Ni_(82.3)Cr_7Fe_3Si_(4.5)B_(3.2) alloy in acidic media

The effects of temperature on corrosion and the electrochemical behavior of Ni82.3Cr7Fe3Si4.5B3.2 glassy alloy in HC1,H2SO4,and H3PO4 acids were studied using AC and DC *** data reveal that the susceptibility to localized corrosion increases with increasing *** polarization curves reveal that the bulk glassy alloy is spontaneously passivated at all the investigated temperature in H2SO4 and H3PO4 solutions.A localized corrosion effect in HCl solution is clearly *** apparent activation energies in the regions of Tafel,active,and passive,as well as the enthalpies and entropies of the dissolution process were determined and *** high apparent activation energy（Ea） value for H3PO4 solution in Tafel region is explained by the low aggressivity of PO4^3- ions.

Preparation of quantum size of tin oxide: Structural and physical characterization

SnO2NPs were successfully prepared via a hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction analysis con fi rmed the rutile tetragonal structure of SnO2NPs. The crystallite size increased from 1.18 to 5.06 nm with increasing the preparation temperature from 100 to 180 °C. The SEM photography of the products exhibited the agglomeration of the SnO2nanocrystals to large view particles, while TEM images con fi rmed the polycrystalline phase and crystallite size those analyzed from XRD. The UV–vis absorption of ethanol suspended SnO2NPs was measured. The optical band-gap energies（Eg） were signi fi cantly blue-shifted due to quantum con fi nement. Fluorescence spectra came to con fi rm this shift, where a clear shift in the maximum emission peak was observed. Stokes shift of SnO2nanocrystals was found to be crystallite size dependent.
