Metal-organic decomposition growth of thin film metastable perovskite nickelates with kinetically improved quantum transitions

The multiple quantum transitions within d-band correlation oxides such as rare-earth nickelates(RENiO_(3))triggered by critical temperatures and/or hydrogenation opened up a new paradigm for correlated electronics applications,*** electric field sensor,bio-sensor,and neuron synapse logical ***,these applications are obstructed by the present ineffectiveness in the thin film growth of the metastable RENiO_(3)with flexibly adjustable rare-earth compositions and electronic ***,we demonstrate a metal-organic decompositions(MOD)approach that can effectively grow metastable RENiO_(3)covering a large variety of the rare-earth composition without introducing any vacuum *** the previous chemical growths for RENiO_(3)relying on strict interfacial coherency that limit the film thickness,the MOD growth using reactive isooctanoate percussors is tolerant to lattice defects and therefore achieves comparable film thickness to vacuum *** indicated by positron annihilation spectroscopy,the RENiO_(3)grown by MOD exhibit large amount of lattice defects that improves their hydrogen incorporation amount and electron transfers,as demonstrated by the resonant nuclear reaction analysis and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure *** effectively enlarges the magnitude in the resistance regulations in particular for RENiO_(3)with lighter RE,shedding a light on the extrinsic regulation of the hydrogen induced quantum transitions for correlated oxides semiconductors kinetically via defect engineering.

The paper deals with the dynamic response prediction of the composite structure,which consists of two linear components coupled by some nonlinear vibration isolators. Based on the measured impulse response functions of the linear components, three kinds of dynamic equations of interfacial integration are proposed and a procedure to transform the dynamic equations of integral type into a set of ordinary differential equations is suggested. Computer simulations and a real test are given to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Bio-mimetic drug delivery systems designed to help the senior population reconstruct melatonin plasma profiles similar to those of the healthy younger population

The secretion of melatonin(MT)is obviously different in the younger and the senior sectors of the population,and the maximum plasma concentration of seniors is only half of that in the younger population *** exogenous MT can be supplied to senior citizens based on the secretion rate and amount of endogenous MT in the younger population by a bio-mimetic drug delivery system(DDS),an improved therapeutic effect and reduced side effects can be *** upon this hypothesis,the pharmacokinetic parameters of MT,namely,the absorption rate constant(ka),the elimination rate constant(ke),and the ratio of absorption rate(F)to the apparent volume of distribution(V)were obtained by a residual method depending on the plasma concentration curve of immediate release preparations in the healthy younger *** dose-division method was applied to calculate the cumulative release profiles of MT achieved by oral administration of a controlled release drug delivery system(DDS)to generate plasma MT profiles similar to the physiological level-time *** in vivo release of MT deduced from the healthy younger population physiological MT profiles as the pharmacokinetic output of the bio-mimetic DDS showed a two-phase profile with two different zero order release rates,namely,4.919μg/h during 0-4 h(r=0.9992),and 11.097μg/h during 4-12 h(r=0.9886),*** the osmotic pump type of DDS generally exhibits a good correlation between in vivo and in vitro release behaviors,an osmotic pump controlled delivery system was designed in combination with dry coating technology targeting on the cumulative release characteristics to mimic the physiological MT profiles in the healthy younger *** high similarity between the experimental drug release profiles and the theoretical profiles(similarity factor f_(2)>50)and the high correlation between the predicted plasma concentration profiles and the theoretical plasma concentration profiles(r=0.9366,0.9163,0.9264)ind

This study evaluated the removal of multiple pollutants,i.e.,polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs),novel halogenated flame retardants(HFRs),sulfonamide antibiotics(SAs),and heavy metals(HMs),by a fullscale reversed A^(2)/O process in a sewage treatment plant(STP)in Guangzhou,*** reversed A^(2)/O process demonstrated high removal efficiencies(REs)for total PBDEs(60.5%±4.3%),novel HFRs(98.4%±2.8%)and HMs(70.1%±1.2%),and a relatively low RE for SAs(25.0%±2.3%).BDE 209,the dominant PBDE congener,showed a high residual concentration(13.41±5.18 ng/L)in the suspended particulate matter(SPM)of treated *** me novel HFRs,dechlorane plus(DP)and decabromodiphe nyl ethane(DBDPE),were detected in the SPM of the raw sewage(7.50±4.14 ng/L and 11.52±11.65 ng/L,respectively).The removal ofSAs was mainly through biodegradation in the activated sludge bioreactors(ASBs).Ofthe HMs,Mn and Ni exhibited the lowest REs(47.5%±2.2%and 35.0%±2.6%,respectively),while Cr and Cu showed the highest removal(REs>80%).In terms of treatment units in the reversed A^(2)/O process,ASBs showed the highest RE(27.8%)for the multiple *** information can aid in our understanding of removal properties of STPs on various pollutants and evaluating the ecological/health risks of STPs as point pollutant sources.

High-frequency polarity swings during the Gauss-Matuyama reversal from Baoji loess sediment

Paleomagnetic records of the Gauss-Matuyama reversal were obtained from two loess sections at Baoji on the Chinese Loes Plateau. Stepwise thermal demagnetization shows two obvious magnetization components. A low-temperature component iso lated between 100 and 200–250？C is close to the present geomagnetic field direction, and a high-temperature component iso lated above 200–250？C reveals clearly normal, reversed, and transitional polarities. Magnetostratigraphic results of both sec tions indicated that the Gauss-Matuyama reversal consists of a high-frequency polarity fluctuation zone, but the characteristic remanent magnetization directions during the reversal are clearly inconsistent. Rock magnetic experiments demonstrated tha for all the specimens with normal, reversed, and transitional polarities magnetite and hematite are the main magnetic carriers Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility indicates that the studied loess sediments have a primary sedimentary fabric. Based on virtual geomagnetic pole latitudes, the Gauss-Matuyama reversal records in the two sections are accompanied by 14 short-lived geomagnetic episodes（15 rapid polarity swings） and 12 short-lived geomagnetic episodes（13 rapid polarity swings）, respec tively. Our new records, together with previous ones from lacustrine, marine, and aeolian deposits, suggest that high-frequency polarity swings coexist with the Gauss-Matuyama reversal, and that the Gauss-Matuyama reversal may have taken more than11 kyr to complete. However, we need more detailed analyses of sections across polarity swings during reversals as well a more high-resolution reversal records to understand geomagnetic behavior and inconsistent characteristic remanent magnetiza tion directions during polarity reversals.

Herbal compatibility of Traditional Chinese Medical formulas for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

OBJECTIVE:Because herbal compatibility is one of the most important reasons why Traditional Chinese Medcine(TCM) formulas are effective for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS),our study aimed to determine the compatibility of herbs based on published AIDS clinical research in Chinese *** achieve this aim,we designed a new data-mining algorithm according to TCM data ***:We found 25 clinical AIDS studies,all using Chinese herbs for treatment,in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Database System,and information on diagnosis and treatment was *** find out herbal compatibility,especially the formulae for herbal combinations,we proposed an improved association rule algorithm based on the frequency of *** this algorithm,all the compatibility relationships were displayed in a tree structure,by which the relationship between formulas and their derivation could be clearly ***:Data analysis showed that approximately 100 herbs have been used for treating *** on the whole herb compatibility tree,we calculated a basic formula for AIDS:Huang Qi combined with Ren Shen,Fu ling,Bai Zhu,Bai Zhu,Dang Gui,and Bai *** formula,deriving from most of clinical prescriptions,and was chosed by most of clinicians for AIDS *** data mining we found that Qi replenishment and detoxification were the main treatment principles,which coincided with the AIDS pathological mechanism in which immune function is destroyed by human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).CONCLUSIONS:Our data-mining results suggest that the core TCM treatment of AIDS is replenishing Qi and detoxification,by which AIDS patients' immune system may be *** of Huang Qi with some frequently-used herbs have shown real efficacy in clinical practice,which warrants pharmacological research in the future.

Three dimensional distribution of surfactant in microspheres revealed by synchrotron radiation X-ray microcomputed tomography

This study investigated the formulation mechanism of microspheres via internal surfactant distribution. Eudragit L100 based microspheres loaded with bovine serum albumin were prepared by solid in oil in oil emulsion solvent evaporation method using acetone and liquid paraffin system containing sucrose stearate as a surfactant. The fabricated microspheres were evaluated for encapsulation efficiency, particle size, production yield, and in vitro release characteristics. The internal structures of microspheres were characterized using synchrotron radiation X-ray microcomputed tomography(SR-μCT). The enhanced contrast made the sucrose stearate distinguished from Eudragit to have its three dimensional(3D) distribution. Results indicated that the content and concentration determined the state of sucrose stearate and had significant influences on the release kinetics of protein. The dispersity of sucrose stearate was the primary factor that controlled the structure of the microspheres and further affected the encapsulation efficiency, effective drug loading, as well as in vitro release behavior. In conclusion, the 3D internal distribution of surfactant in microspheres and its effects on protein release behaviors have been revealed for the first time. The highly resolved 3D architecture provides new evidence for the deep understanding of the microsphere formation mechanism.

An innovative method to evaluate the severe level of general Qi deficiency

OBJECTIVE:The study aim was to use existing relevant indexes to establish an index series for the quantitative measurement of Qi deficiency pattern(QDP) in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS:Seventeen indexes of arterial oxygen saturation(SaO_2),TCM pulse diagnosis,heart rate,and blood pressure were integrated into an index series,and 94 selected subjects were divided into a healthy control group,a mild QDP group,and a typical QDP *** three groups were then synchronously given a breath-holding(BH) test and index detections using TCM apparatus for auxiliary diagnosis and treatment and a *** detections were carried out repeatedly until there was no monotonic change in the value of the minimal SaO_(2d)uring a BH measurement(SaO_(2 min)) or in the duration of BH during a BH measurement(TBH).RESULTS:BH measurement and index detection data from 380 eligible cases were analyzed and a significant intergroup difference was found for 12 ***:An index series for quantitative QDP measurement could comprise the 12 effective indexes:RSaO_(2d)(rate of decline of SaO_(2d)uring a BH measurement),RSaO_(2r)(recovery rate of SaO_2 after a BH measurement),SaO_(2 min),BFV(blood flow velocity),TSaO_(2d)(the time at which SaO_2 started declining during a BH measurement),TBH,TSa_(O2 min)(the time of occurrence of the minimal SaO_(2d)uring a BH measurement),TSa O_(2 max)(the time of occurrence of the maximal SaO_2 after a BH measurement),PTP(pulse-touching pressure),SBP(systolic blood pressure),PWV(pulse wave velocity),and DBP(diastolic blood pressure).Of the indexes,RSaO_(2d)could play akey role in quantitative QDP measurement;RSaO_(2r) and Sa O_2 mincould be used to differentiate the QDP symptom of shortness of breath and as early-warning indexes for chronic obstructive pulmonary ***,TSaO_(2d),and TBHcould be used to quantitatively assess the QDP symptoms of spontaneous perspiration and shortness of breath.

Poly methyl methacrylate(PMMA)bone cement is used in augmenting and stabilizing fractured vertebral bodies through percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)and percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP).However,applications of PMMA bone cement are limited by the high elasticity modulus of PMMA,its low biodegradability,and its limited ability to regenerate *** improve PMMA bio activity and biodegradability and to modify its elasticity modulus,we mixed PMMA bone cement with oxidized hyaluronic acid and carboxymethyl chitosan in situ cross-linking hydrogel loaded with bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2)to achieve novel hybrid *** fabric ated PMMA-hydrogel hybrid cements exhibited lower setting temperatures,a lower elasticity modulus,and better biodegradability and biocompatibility than that of pure PMMA cement,while retaining acceptable setting times,mechanical strength,and inj *** addition,we detected release of BMP-2 from the PMMA-hydrogel hybrid cements,significantly enhancing in vitro osteogenesis of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by up-regulating the gene expression of Runx2,Coll,and *** of PMMA-hydrogel hybrid cements loaded with BMP-2 on rabbit femoral condyle bone-defect models revealed their biodegradability and enhanced bone *** study demonstrated the favorable mechanical properties,biocompatibility,and biodegradability of fabricated PMMA-hydrogel hybrid cements loaded with BMP-2,as well as their ability to improve osteogenesis,making them a promising material for use in PKP and PVP.
