The content of organic carbon （OC） normalized to the specific surface area （SSA） of sediment is widely used to trace variations in OC loading （OC/SSA）. This study presents observations of OC/SSA of surface sediments collected in the Chukchi Sea, a typical Arctic marginal sea. Shelf sediments exhibit much higher OC/SSA values than slope sediments in the study area. Compared with OC/SSA values reported from the East Siberian Shelf and Mackenzie River, the slope sediments possess lower OC loading. This abrupt decrease in OC/SSA is mostly related to the lower primary production on slope as well as possible oxidization processes. The results of linear regression analysis between OC and SSA indicate a sedimentary source rock for the OC in the Chukchi Sea sediments. Moreover, shelf sediments with low SSA possess a larger rock OC fraction than slope sediments do. The dataset of the present study enables a more thorough understanding of regional OC cycling in the Chukchi Sea.

Changes in zooplankton community structure in Sanmen Bay,China

Seasonal variations in zooplankton abundance, biomass, species diversity and community structure were investigated in the Sanmen Bay, China. Samples were collected from 15 stations, on the seasonal basis, in April （spring）, July （summer） and October 2005 （autumn） and January 2006 （winter）, respectively. The results show that zooplankton species number, abundance and biomass varied widely and had distinct spatial heterogeneity in the Sanmen Bay. A total of 72 species of zooplankton belonging to 56 genera and 17 groups of pelagic larvae were identified. The zooplankton species richness was strongly related to salinity. Based on hierarchical cluster analysis, zooplankton in this study area were classified into three groups： coastal, neritic and pelagic groups, which corresponded to the upper, middle and lower portion of the Sanmen Bay, respectively. The coastal low-saline species were dominant in the study area. The zooplankton abundance and biomass reached a peak in summer, moderate in spring and autumn, and the lowest in winter. Zooplankton abundance decreased from the upper to lower portion of the bay in April, when the highest biomass occurred in the middle portion of the bay. There were the same spatial distribution patterns for the biomass and abundance in July, with the maximum in the middle of the bay. However, zooplankton abundance was the highest in the middle of tile bay in October, when maximum biomass occurred near the lower of the bay. Zooplankton abundance and biomass were evenly distributed in the Sanmen Bay in January. Spatial and temporal variations in zooplankton and their relationship with environmental factors were also analyzed. The BIOENV results indicate that the combination of chlorophyll a （Chl-a）, salinity, dissolved inorganic nitrogen （DIN）, dissolved oxygen （DO） and silicate （SiO3） was responsible for the variations in zooplankton community structure in the Sanmen Bay. 目的观察老年急性脑梗死(ACI)患者血清磷酸化tau蛋白181(P-tau-181)和激肽释放酶6(KLK6)水平变化,并探讨其与患者发病后睡眠障碍的关系。方法选择2020年5月至2022年5月海安市人民医院收治的158例老年ACI患者作为观察对象,根据美国国立卫生研究院卒中量表(NIHSS)评分,将其分为轻度组(40例)、中度组(81例)和重度组(37例);患者发病后根据匹兹堡睡眠质量指数(PSQI)评分,将其分为睡眠障碍组(56例)和睡眠良好组(102例);患者血清P-tau-181和KLK6水平选择酶联免疫吸附法检测;采用logistic回归分析法对老年ACI患者发病后睡眠障碍的影响因素进行分析;采用受试者工作特征曲线分析血清P-tau-181和KLK6水平对老年ACI患者发病后睡眠障碍的诊断价值。结果重度组ACI患者血清P-tau-181、KLK6水平显著高于轻度组和中度组(P<0.05),中度组血清P-tau-181、KLK6水平显著高于轻度组(P<0.05)。与睡眠良好组患者相比较,睡眠障碍组有卒中家族史、有吸烟史以及有饮酒史患者比例及血清P-tau-181、KLK6水平较高(P<0.05)。血清P-tau-181及KLK6水平是影响老年ACI患者发病后睡眠障碍的独立危险因素(P<0.05)。血清P-tau-181、KLK6以及两者联合诊断老年ACI患者发病后发生睡眠障碍的ROC曲线下面积分别为0.844、0.826和0.924,联合诊断效能高于单独检测(Z=2.030,P=0.042;Z=2.340,P=0.019)。结论老年ACI患者血清中P-tau-181及KLK6高表达可能与其发病后睡眠障碍有重要联系,且两者联合预测老年ACI患者发病后睡眠障碍效能高于单独检测。

Climate warming has a significant impact on the sea ice and ecosystem of the Arctic *** the increasing numbers of melt ponds in Arctic sea ice,the phytoplankton communities associated with the ice system are *** the 7th Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition cruise in summer 2016,photosynthesis pigments and nutrients were analyzed,revealing differences in phytoplankton communities between melt ponds and open water in the central *** pigment analysis suggested that Fuco(5-91μg m^-3)and Diadino(4-21μg m^-3)were the main pigments in the open ***,the melt ponds had high concentrations of Viola(7-30μg m^-3),Lut(4-59μg m^-3)and Chl b(11-38μg m^-3),suggesting that green algae dominated phytoplankton communities in the melt *** significant differences in phytoplankton communities between melt ponds and open water might be due to the salinity ***,green algae may play a more important role in Arctic sea ice ecosystems with the expected growing number of melt ponds in the central Arctic Ocean.

Spatiotemporal variations of deep-sea sediment components and their fluxes since the last glaciation in the northern South China Sea

Sediment components and their fluxes of Cores MD12-3428(water depth: 903 m), MD12-3433(water depth: 2125 m),and MD12-3434(water depth: 2995 m), obtained along a transect on the continental slope of the northern South China Sea, have been conducted to reveal the spatiotemporal variations and the controlling factors of the sediment components and of their *** show that deep-sea sediments in the northern South China Sea are composed mainly of terrigenous(59–89%) and carbonate(6–38%) particles, with minor components of opal(1.6–9.4%) and organic matter(0.7–1.9%). Fluxes of terrigenous and carbonate particles reach up to 2.4–21.8 and 0.4–6.5 g cm–2 kyr–1, respectively, values that are one to two orders of magnitude higher than the fluxes of opal and organic matter. Temporal variations of the percentages and fluxes of deep-sea sediment components have displayed clear glacial-interglacial cyclicity since the last glaciation. Terrigenous, opal, and organic matter percentages and their fluxes increas clearly during marine isotope stage 2, while carbonate percentages and fluxes show an opposite variation pattern or are characterized by an unremarkable increase. This implies that deep-sea carbonate in the South China Sea is affected by the dilution of terrigenous inputs during the sea-level lowstand. With increasing water depth along the transect, the terrigenous percentage increases but with largely decreased fluxes. Both the percentage and flux of carbonate decrease, while the percentages and fluxes of opal and organic matter display much more complicated variational features. The spatiotemporal variations of deep-sea sediment components and of their fluxes since the last glaciation in the northern South China Sea are strongly controlled by sea-level fluctuations. An investigation was carried out on living coccolithophores （LCs） distribution in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea from October 17 to November 24, 2011. A total of 223 samples from different depths were col-lected at 48 stations. Totally 18 taxa belonging to coccolithophyceae were identified using a polarized micro-scope at the 1 000× magnification. The maximum species abundance was found at the outside of Transect P. The dominated species wereGephyrocapsa oceanica, Emiliania huxleyi,Helicosphaera carteri,andAlgiros-phaera *** abundance of coccoliths and cells ranged 0-2 965.73 coccoliths/mL, and 0-119.16 cells/mL, with the average values of 471.00 coccoliths/mL and 23.42 cells/mL, respectively. The LCs in surface layer were mainly observed on the coastal belt and middle part of the survey area. The comparison among Transects A, F, P and E indicated lower species diversity and less abundance in the Yellow Sea than those of the East China Sea. The highest abundance of LCs was found in transect F and P. The coccolith abundance increased slightly from surface to bottom in the water column, but the highest value of the cell abundance was observed in the depth of 10-30 m. Temperature, depth and nutrient concentration were suggested as the major environmental factors controlling the distribution and species composition of LCs in the studying area based on canonical correspondence analysis （CCA）.

Response of phytoplankton community to different water types in the western Arctic Ocean surface water based on pigment analysis in summer 2008

Nutrients and photosynthesis pigments were investigated in the western Arctic Ocean during the 3rd Chinese Arctic Research Expedition Cruise in summer 2008. The study area was divided into five provinces using the K- means clustering method based on the physical and chemical characteristics of the sea water, and to discuss the distribution of the phytoplankton community structure in these provinces. CHEMTAX software was performed using HPLC pigments to estimate the contributions of eight algal classes to the total chlorophyll a （TChl a）. The results showed that on the Chukchi Shelf, the Pacific Ocean inflow mainly controlled the Chl a biomass and phytoplankton communities by nutrient concentrations. The high nutrient Anadyr Water and Bering Shelf Water （AnW and BSW） controlled region have high Chl a levels and the diatom dominated community structure. In contrast, in the region occupied by low-nutrient like Alaska Coastal Water （ACW）, the Chl a biomass was low, with pico- and nano-phytoplankton as dominated species, such as prasinophytes, chrysophytes and cryptophytes. However, over the off-shelf, the ice cover condition which would affect the physical and nutrient concentrations of the water masses, in consequence had a greater impact on the phytoplankton community structure. Diatom dominated in ice cover region and its contribution to Chl a biomass was up to 75%. In the region dose to the Mendeleev Abyssal Plain （MAP）, controlled by sea-ice melt water with relatively high salinity （MW-HS）, higher nutrient and Chl a concentrations were found and the phytoplankton was dominated by pico- and nano-algae, while the diatom abundance reduced to 33%. In the southern Canada Basin, an ice-free basin （IfB） with the lowest nutrient concentrations and most freshened surface water, low Chl a biomass was a consequence of low nutrients. Here,we report the results of high-resolution nitrate measurements using an optical nitrate profiler(in situ ultraviolet spectrophotometer,ISUS)along transect across a high-turbidity shelf(East China Sea)and a low-turbidity shelf(Chukchi Sea).The ISUS-measured nitrate concentrations closely reproduced the results measured by conventional bottle methods in low-turbidity ***,for high-turbidity waters of the East China Sea(salinity<30),a correction factor of 1.19 was required to match the standard bottle *** high-resolution ISUS data revealed subtle spatial variability(e.g.,a subsurface nitrate minimum)that may have been missed if based solely on bottle *** main structures of the nitracline on the East China Sea are apparent from the ISUS nitrate ***-resolution nitrate data are important for studying nitrate budgets and nutrient dynamics on continental shelves.

A total of 67 samples from the upper and lower sediment traps in the central South China Sea were analyzed, which were collected during 1993 ~ 1996. It is indicated that the distribution of stable isotope values, surface primary productivity, fluxes of total particulate matter, carbonate, biogenic opal, organic carbon, planktonic foraminiferal species and their total amount exhibit obviously seasonal and annual fluctuations. High values of the fluxes occurred in the prevailing periods of the northeastern and southwestern monsoons, and the low values occurred during the periods between the two monsoons. The fluxes of some planktonic foraminiferal species （ Globigerinoides sacculifer , G. ruber , Globigerinita glutinata, Neogloboquadrina dutertrei ） and their percentages also exhibit two prominent peaks during the prevailing periods of the northeastern and southwestern monsoons respectively, while those of Globigerina bulloides, Globorotalia menardii and Pulleniatina obliquiloculata only exhibit one peak in the prevailing periods of the northeastern monsoon. In addition, fluxes and percentages of Globigerinoides sacculifer and Globorotalia menardii as well as the fluxes of carbonate and total amount of planktonic foraminifera decrease gradually from 1993 to 1996, and those of Globigerina bulloides, Globigerinita glutinata and biogenic opal increase gradually from 1993 to 1996. The fluxes of carbonate and organic carbon in the upper trap are higher than those in the lower one. The study indicates that the seasonal and annual variations of the sediment fluxes and planktonic foraminiferal species are mainly controlled by the changes of surface primary productivity and hydrological conditions related to the East Asian monsoon. The lower carbonate and organic carbon fluxes in the lower trap are related to the dissolution.
