Emodin attenuates inflammation and demyelination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

Emodin,a substance extracted from herbs such as rhubarb,has a protective effect on the central nervous ***,the potential therapeutic effect of emodin in the context of multiple sclerosis remains *** this study,a rat model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis was established by immune induction to simulate multiple sclerosis,and the rats were intraperitoneally injected with emodin(20 mg/kg/d)from the day of immune induction until they were *** this model,the nucleotide-binding domain-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3)inflammasome and the microglia exacerbated neuroinflammation,playing an important role in the development of multiple *** addition,silent information regulator of transcription 1(SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha coactivator(PGC-1α)was found to inhibit activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome,and SIRT1 activation reduced disease severity in experimental autoimmune ***,treatment with emodin decreased body weight loss and neurobehavioral deficits,alleviated inflammatory cell infiltration and demyelination,reduced the expression of inflammatory cytokines,inhibited microglial aggregation and activation,decreased the levels of NLRP3 signaling pathway molecules,and increased the expression of SIRT1 and PGC-1α.These findings suggest that emodin improves the symptoms of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis,possibly through regulating the SIRT1/PGC-1α/NLRP3 signaling pathway and inhibiting microglial *** findings provide experimental evidence for treatment of multiple sclerosis with emodin,enlarging the scope of clinical application for emodin.

A study on relationship of nitric oxide,oxidation,peroxidation,lipoperoxidation with chronic cholecystitis

AIM:To study relationship of injury induced by nitric oxide, oxidation, peroxidation,lipoperoxidation with chronic ***:The values of plasma nitric oxide (P-NO), plasma vitamin C (P-VC), plasma vitamin E (P-VE), plasma beta-carotene (P-beta-CAR), plasma lipoperoxides (P-LPO), erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (E-SOD), erythrocyte catalase (E-CAT), erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase (E-GSH-Px) activities and erythrocyte lipoperoxides (E-LPO) level in 77 patients with chronic cholecystitis and 80 healthy control subjects were determined, differences of the above average values between the patient group and the control group and differences of the average values between preoperative and postoperative patients were analyzed and compared, linear regression and correlation of the disease course with the above determination values as well as the stepwise regression and correlation of the course with the values were ***:Compared with the control group, the average values of P-NO, P-LPO, E-LPO were significantly increased (P<0.01), and of P-VC, P-VE, P-beta-CAR, E-SOD, E-CAT and E-GSH-Px decreased (P <0.01) in the patient group. The analysis of the linear regression and correlation showed that with prolonging of the course, the values of P-NO, P-LPO and E-LPO in the patients were gradually ascended and the values of P-VC,P-VE, P-beta-CAR, E-SOD, E-CAT and E-GSH-Px descended (P<0.01). The analysis of the stepwise regression and correlation indicated that the correlation of the course with P-NO, P-VE and P-beta-CAR values was the closest. Compared with the preoperative patients, the average values of P-NO, P-LPO and E-LPO were significantly decreased (P <0.01) and the average values of P-VC, E-SOD, E-CAT and E-GSH-Px in postoperative patients increased (P <0.01) in postoperative patients. Characterizations of gas-liquid interface distribution and slug evolution in a vertical pipe

Large vertical pipes are key structures connecting subsea wells to offshore ***,existing studies mainly focus on small vertical *** a vertical acrylic pipe with 80 mm inner diameter and 11 m height,a high-speed camera was used to visually research the influences of pipe diameters,liquid properties and inlet effect on air-water co-flow *** flow regime maps of vertical pipes(diameters are in the range of 50e189 mm)were compared and the critical gas velocity of the transition boundary from bubble to slug flow tended to increase with the increase of diameters at D≥80 ***-flux models were established in different flow regimes and liquid properties have a significant effect on drift coefficients of bubble flow and slug flow(void fraction a≤0.4).The influence of inlet turbulent effect on the gas-liquid interface distribution gradually weakened and disappeared from the pipe base to 85D,where the flow was fully *** frequency has a trend of increase first and then decrease with the gas Weber numbers increasing at low liquid superficial velocities(J_(L)≤0.31 m/s).And on the basis of this law,a new slug frequency correlation was *** was found that there was an exponential relationship between the ratio of lengths of Taylor bubble to slug and the void fraction.

Combretastatin A4/poly(L-glutamic acid)-graft-PEG conjugates self-assembled to nanoparticles

Combretastatin A4(CA4) possesses varying ability to cause vascular disruption in tumors,while the short half-life, low water solubility and deactivation of many CA4 analogs during storage limited its antitumor efficacy and drug stability. A novel macromolecular conjugate of CA4(CA4-PL) was synthesized by covalent bonding of CA4 onto poly(L-glutamic acid)-graft-polyethylene glycol(PLG-g-PEG) via Yamaguchi reaction. The obtained CA4-PL was characterized by ~1H NMR, GPC, and UV methods, and the properties of the nanoparticles composed of CA4-PL, including critical aggregation concentration, size and size distribution, and morphology, were investigated. CA4-PL can self-assemble to form micelle-like nanoparticles of 80～120 nm in diameter, which may have potential to improve the blood circulation period as well as the targetability of CA4, and find applications to treat various tumors when combined with traditional chemotherapy or radio therapy.

Countercurrent imbibition in low-permeability porous media: Nondiffusive behavior and implications in tight oil recovery

Countercurrent imbibition is an important mechanism for tight oil recovery,that is,water imbibes spontaneously from the fracture into the porous matrix while oil flows reversely into the *** significance over cocurrent imbibition and forced imbibition is highlighted when permeability *** used the computed tomography(CT)scanning to measure the one-dimensional evolution of water saturation profile and countercurrent imbibition distance(CID)at different fluid pressures,initial water saturations,and ***,experiments show that CID evolution for tight reservoir cores dramatically deviates from the classical diffusive rule(i.e.,evolutes proportional to square root of time,t^(0.5)).At early stage,CID extends faster than t^(0.5)(super-diffusive);while at late stage,CID extends much slower than t^(0.5)(sub-diffusive).After tens of hours,the CID change becomes too slow to be practically efficient for tight oil *** research demonstrates that this deviation from classic theory is a result of(1)a much longer characteristic capillary length than effective invasion depth,which eliminates full development of a classical displacement front;and(2)non-zero flow at low water saturation,which was always neglected for conventional reservoir and is amplified in sub-mili-Darcy *** well depict the details of the imbibition front in this situation,we introduce non-zero wetting phase fluidity at low saturation into classical countercurrent imbibition model and conduct numerical simulations,which successfully rationalizes the non-diffusive behavior and fits experimental *** data and theory imply an optimum soaking time in tight oil recovery by countercurrent imbibition,beyond which increasing exposed fracture surface area becomes a more efficient enhanced oil recovery(EOR)strategy than soaking for longer time.

The development of catalytic aerobic epoxidation by numerous metal complexes in the presence of aldehyde as a sacrificial reductant(Mukaiyama epoxidation)has been reported,however,comprehensive examination of oxygen atom transfer mechanism involving free radical and highly reactive intermediates has yet to be ***,meso-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrinatooxidovanadium(Ⅳ)(VOTPFPP)was prepared and proved to be efficient toward aerobic olefin epoxidation in the presence of *** situ electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy(in situ EPR)showed the generation,transfer pathways and ascription of free radicals in the *** to the spectral and computational studies,the side-on vanadium-peroxo complexes are considered as the active intermediate species in the reaction *** the cyclohexene epoxidation catalyzed by VOTPFPP,the kinetic isotope effect value of 1.0 was obtained,indicating that epoxidation occurred via oxygen atom transfer *** mechanism was further elucidated using isotopically labeled dioxygen experiments and density functional theory(DFT)calculations.

Exendin-4 and linagliptin attenuate neuroinflammation in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease

Use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist or dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor has been shown to lower the incidence of Parkinson's disease in patients with diabetes ***,using these two treatments may help treat Parkinson's *** further investigate the mechanisms of action of these two compounds,we established a model of Parkinson's disease by treating mice with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine and then subcutaneously injected them with the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist exendin-4 or the dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor *** found that both exendin-4 and linagliptin reversed motor dysfunction,glial activation,and dopaminergic neuronal death in this *** addition,both exendin-4 and linagliptin induced microglial polarization to the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine ***,in vitro experiments showed that treatment with exendin-4 and linagliptin inhibited activation of the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-and leucine-rich-repeat-and pyrin-domaincontaining 3/caspase-1/interleukin-1βpathway and subsequent pyroptosis by decreasing the production of reactive oxygen *** findings suggest that exendin-4 and linagliptin exert neuroprotective effects by attenuating neuroinflammation through regulation of microglial polarization and the nucleotidebinding oligomerization domain-and leucine-rich-repeat-and pyrin-domain-containing 3/caspase-1/interleukin-1βpathway in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,***,these two drugs may serve as novel anti-inflammatory treatments for Parkinson's disease.

Review of research on the mechanical properties of the human tooth

‘Bronze teeth＇ reflect the mechanical properties of natural teeth to a certain extent. Their mechanical properties resemble those of a tough metal, and the gradient of these properties lies in the direction from outside to inside. These attributes confer human teeth with effective mastication ability. Understanding the various mechanical properties of human teeth and dental materials is the basis for the development of restorative materials. In this study, the elastic properties, dynamic mechanical properties （visco-elasticity） and fracture mechanical properties of enamel and dentin were reviewed to provide a more thorough understanding of the mechanical properties of human teeth.
