Optimization of enrichment and pretreatment of low-activity radium isotopes in the open ocean

In the open ocean,radium isotopes are useful tracers of residence time and water-mass ***,limited by the measurement resolution of commonly used gamma counters,the low activity of radium in the open ocean makes it necessary to enrich radium from large volumes of seawater and pretreat radium-enriched carriers prior to *** commonly applied method of radium enrichment and pretreatment,however,has limitations of uneven coating of MnO_(2)on cartridges,relatively expensive cartridges,time-consuming issues during cartridge-ashing,ash loss during transfer,and changes of gamma counters efficiency caused by different ash *** address these issues,in this study we optimized the enrichment and pretreatment of low-activity radium prior to ***,we replaced commonly used acrylic cartridges with cheaper polypropylene cartridges,which took 6 h to be ashed,42 h shorter than for acrylic ***,MnO_(2)-coated cartridges were prepared with a circulating hot acidic KMnO_(4)solution to ensure homogeneous *** radium extraction efficiency of this MnO_(2)-coated cartridge was 20%-61%higher than that prepared by directly immersing cartridges in the *** radium delayed coincidence counter efficiency for MnO_(2)-coated cartridge was stable with a moisture content of ***,after ashing cartridges,instead of directly transferring the ash to a measurement vial,a mixture of hydroxylamine hydrochloride and hydrochloric acid was used to completely leach the ash for long-lived radium,followed by coprecipitation by BaSO_(4),to avoid potential loss of ash during transfer and variations in measurement geometry due to different ash *** the recovery of long-lived radium pretreatment was 94%-102%,which improved by 11%compared with the common *** addition,the radium extraction efficiency of the MnO_(2)-coated cartridge varied from 3%to 4%within the in situ pump working flow rate of 4-7 L/min,which fell within the

An efficient approach for mesoscale fracture modeling of fully-graded hydraulic concrete

Large coarse aggregates used in fully-graded hydraulic concrete necessitate large specimens for numerical *** leads to a high computational cost for mesoscale modeling and thus slows the development of multiscale modeling of hydraulic mass concrete *** overcome this obstacle,an efficient approach for mesoscale fracture modeling of fully-graded hydraulic concrete was developed based on the concept of the governing *** mesostructure was characterized by a critical aggregate *** aggregates smaller than the critical size were homogenized into mortar *** issues in mesostructure generation of fully-graded hydraulic concrete are discussed,as is the development of mesoscale finite element modeling *** basic concept and implementation procedures of the proposed approach are also described in *** numerical results indicated that the proposed approach not only significantly improves the compu-tational efficiency of mesoscale modeling but also captures the dominant fracturing mechanism at the mesoscale and reproduces reasonable fracture properties at the ***,the proposed approach can serve as a basis for multiscale fracture modeling of hydraulic mass concrete structures.

Gene delivery is the process by which foreign DNA is transferred to host cells,released from intracellular vesicles,and transported to the nuclei for *** process is frequently inefficient and difficult to control *** developed a gene delivery strategy that uses ultrasound to directly deliver plasmid DNA into nuclei via gas vesicles(GVs)-based intracellular ***-binding GVs can be taken up by cells and cause intracellular cavitation when exposed to acoustic irradiation and delivering their pDNA payloads into ***,GVs can remain stable in the cytoplasm in the absence of acoustic irradiation,allowing for temporally controlled nuclear gene *** were able to achieve spatiotemporal control of E-cadherin nuclear gene delivery in this manner,demonstrating its efficacy in tumor invasion and metastasis ***,we discovered that nuclear gene delivery of E-cadherin during the G2/M phase of the cell cycle in C6 tumor cells inhibited tumor invasion and metastasis more effectively than during the G1 and S *** gene delivery of E-cadherin at the G2/M phase resulted in significantly lower expression of Fam50a,which reduced Fam50a/Runx2 interaction and led to reduced transactivation of MMP13,an important factor for epithelial-mesenchymal transition,as observed in a molecular mechanism ***,using remote acoustic control of intracellular cavitation of pDNA-GVs,we developed a high spatiotemporally controllable gene delivery strategy and achieved stronger tumor invasion and metastasis inhibition effects by delivering the E-cadherin gene at the G2/M phase.

An integrated heat and power system(IHPS)is a promising approach for alleviating wind curtailment *** an IHPS,the combined heat and power(CHP)plant is the key component,which supplies both heat and electric loads,and couples the thermal system and power ***,existing research commonly ignores or simplifies the internal composition of CHP plants,which could lead to some unavoidable *** paper focuses on the internal composition of CHP plants,and models the physical processes in different components and flexible resources in the CHP ***,a joint dispatch problem of an IHPS with the above CHP plant models is formulated,and an iterative algorithm is developed to handle the nonlinearity in this *** studies are performed based on a real CHP plant in Northern China,and the results indicate that the synergistic effect of different energy resources in the CHP plant is realized by the joint dispatch model,which promotes wind power accommodation and reduces fossil fuel consumption.

The response of structure and nitrogen removal function of the biofilm on submerged macrophytes to high ammonium in constructed wetlands

The ammonium exceedance discharge from sewage treatment plants has a great risk to the stable operation of subsequent constructed wetlands(CWs).The effects of high ammonium shocks on submerged macrophytes and epiphytic biofilms on the leaves of submerged macrophytes in CWs were rarely mentioned in previous *** this paper,the 16S rRNA sequencing method was used to investigate the variation of the microbial communities in biofilms on the leaves of Vallisneria natans plants while the growth characteristics of *** plants were measured at different initial ammonium *** results demonstrated that the total chlorophyll and soluble sugar synthesis of *** plants decreased by 51.45%and 57.16%,respectively,and malondialdehyde content increased threefold after8 days if the initial NH_(4)^(+)-N concentration was more than 5 mg/*** density,bacterial quantity,dissolved oxygen,and pH increased with high ammonium *** average removal efficiencies of total nitrogen and NH_(4)^(+)-N reached 73.26%and 83.94%,*** heat map and relative abundance analysis represented that the relative abundances of phyla Proteobacteria,Cyanobacteria,and Bacteroidetes *** numbers of autotrophic nitrifiers and heterotrophic nitrification aerobic denitrification(HNAD)bacteria expanded in *** particular,HNAD bacteria of Flavobacterium,Hydrogenophaga,Acidovorax,Acinetobacter,Pseudomonas,Aeromonas,and Azospira had higher abundances than autotrophic nitrifiers because there were organic matters secreted from declining leaves of *** *** analysis of the nitrogen metabolic pathway showed aerobic denitrification was the main nitrogen removal ***,the nitrification and denitrification bacterial communities increased in epiphytic biofilms on submerged macrophytes in constructed wetlands while submerged macrophytes declined under ammonium shock loading.

Overview of current design and analysis of potential theories for automated fibre placement mechanisms

Automated fibre placement(AFP) systems have successfully intensified the demand for high-quality composite component manufacturing in both the military and civilian fields. One of the main elements of these systems is the AFP mechanism for accomplishing individual fibre delivery,clamp/cut/restart(CCR) and the consolidation process, and it consists of several functional submechanisms presenting strong coupling relationships and motion sequences. This review aims to summarize the development of AFP mechanisms and the associated research achievements and provide insight into the research challenges in promoting innovative design in such mechanisms. The systematic development of AFP systems is reviewed in detail, and subsequently, engineering tendency and the general principle of AFP mechanisms are introduced. Focusing on the mechanism design of AFP sub-mechanisms, including the creel assembly CCR and compaction mechanisms,the mechanical schemes as well as the AFP process parameter control are discussed. To improve system reliability and fully optimise AFP mechanisms, the essential theoretical foundation for AFP mechanisms are provided. It is believed that this attempt will help to change the design and optimisation of similar complete mechanisms. Based on the reviewed research, overall remarks and perspectives are presented to serve as a guide for exploring the possibility of novel easy-to-use and cost-effective integrated AFP applications.
