Control of topological phase transitions in Dirac semimetal films by exchange fields

The exchange field effects on topological Dirac semimetal（DSM） films are discussed in this article. A topological phase transition can be controlled by tuning the exchange field together with the quantum confinement effects. What is more interesting is that the system can transit into the quantum anomalous Hall（QAH） state from the topologically trivial state（Z2 = 0） or from the topologically nontrivial state（Z2 = 1）, depending on the thickness of the DSM films. This provides a useful mechanism to realize the QAH state from the DSM.

Phenolic compounds are widely present in domestic and industrial sewage and have serious environmental *** oxidation(EO)is one of the most promising methods for sewage degradation because of its high efficiency,environmental compatibility,and *** this work,we present an in-depth overview of the mechanism and factors affecting the degradation of phenolic compounds by *** particular,the effects of treatment of phenolic compounds with different anode materials are discussed in *** non-active anode shows higher degradation efficiency,less intermediate accumulation,and lower energy consumption than the active *** combined with other treatment methods(biological,photo,and Fenton)presents advantages,such as low energy consumption and high degradation ***-while,the remaining drawbacks of the EO process in the phenolic compound treatment system have been ***,future re-search directions are put forward to improve the feasibility of the practical application of EO technology.

Strengthening an in-service reinforcement concrete bridge with prestressed CFRP bars

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars were prestressed for the structural strengthening of 8 T-shaped rein-forced concrete (RC) beams of a 21-year-old bridge in China. The ultimate bearing capacity of the existing bridge after retrofit was discussed on the basis of concrete structures theory. The flexural strengths of RC beams strengthened with CFRP bars were controlled by the failure of concrete in compression and a prestressing method was applied in the retrofit. The field construction processes of strengthening with CFRP bars-including grouting cracks, cutting groove, grouting epoxy and embedding CFRP bars, surface treating, banding with the U-type CFRP sheets, releasing external prestressed steel tendons-were introduced in detail. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this strengthening method, field tests using vehicles as live load were applied before and after the retrofit. The test results of deflection and concrete strain of the T-shaped beams with and without strengthening show that the capacity of the repaired bridge, including the bending strength and stiffness, is enhanced. The measurements of crack width also indicate that this strengthening method can enhance the durability of bridges. Therefore, the proposed strengthening technology is feasible and effective.

Raman and infrared(IR)spectroscopy are powerful analytical techniques,but have intrinsically low detection *** have been three major steps(i)to advance the optical system of the light excitation,collection,and detection since 1920s,(ii)to utilize nanostructure-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)and surface-enhanced infrared absorption(SEIRA)since 1990s,and(iii)to rationally couple(i)and(ii)for maximizing the total detection sensitivity since *** surveying the history of SERS and SEIRA,we outline the principle of plasmonics and the different mechanisms of SERS and *** describe various interactions of light with nano/microstructures,localized surface plasmon,surface plasmon polariton,and lightning-rod *** coupling effects can significantly increase the surface sensitivity by designing nanoparticle–nanoparticle and nanoparticle–substrate *** the nano/microstructures have specific optical near-field and far-field behaviors,we focus on how to systematically design the macro-optical systems to maximize the excitation efficiency and detection *** enumerate the key optical designs in particular ATR-based operation modes of directional excitation and emission from visible to IR spectral *** also present some latest advancements on scanning-probe microscopy-based nanoscale ***,prospects and further developments of this field are given with emphasis on emerging techniques and methodologies.

The perylene diimide derivatives（s-THBPDI and d-THBPDI） bearing oxygen bridged twisty heptatomic biphenyl in the bay positions of the perylene core through acetylene bond were designed and *** photophysical properties of the functionalized dyes were investigated in solution and solid state by UV-vis and photoluminescence（PL） *** UV-vis and PL spectrum both exhibited the different concentration-dependent behaviors due to the difference of chemical ***,cyclic voltammetry results indicated that the introduction of oxygen bridged twisted heptatomic biphenyl could decrease the LUMO energy level of the perylene diimide effectively and made it promising material in photoelectric devices.

The polymer-ceramic composite electrolyte is considered as one of promising electrolytes for solid-state ***,in previous research,ceramic particles are usually dispersed in polymer matrix and could not form continuous Li+conductive *** agglomeration of ceramic particles could also lead to low ionic conductivity and poor interfacial electrode/electrolyte *** this paper,self-supported porous Li_(6.4)La_(3) Zr_(1.4)Ta_(0.6)O_(12)(LLZTO) electrolyte is synthesized by gelcasting process,which possesses three-dimensional(3D) interconnected pore channels and relatively high *** 1,3-dioxolane(DOL) could penetrate into the porous LLZTO framework for its excellent *** subsequent in situ polymerization process by thermal treatment could completely fill the internal pores and improve the interfacial contact with *** resulting 3D composite electrolyte with dual continuous Li+transport channels in ceramic and polymer components exhibits high ionic conductivity of 2.8 × 10^(-4) S·cm^(-1) at room temperature and low Li/electrolyte interfacial resistance of 94 Ω·cm^(2) at 40 ℃.The corresponding Li/Li symmetric cell delivers stable voltage profiles for over 600 h under 0.1 and 0.2 mA·cm^(-2).The solid-state Li/LiFePO_(4) battery shows superior rate and cycling performance under 0.1 C and 0.2 *** work guides the preparation of composite electrolyte with dual continuous Li+conductive paths as well as high ceramic ratio and interface modification strategy for solid-state Li metal battery.

The development of novel piezoelectric catalysts against harsh conditions is indeed crucial for improving the piezo-catalytic degradation efficiency of colored organic dyes in *** this work,6H-SiC nanoparticles(NPs)are utilized to piezo-catalytic degrade rhodamine B(RhB)and methylene blue(MB)under ultrasonic vibration for the first *** degradation efficiency of RhB and MB reaches 98.8%and 98.7%within 80 *** piezoelectricity of 6H-SiC is comprehensively analyzed by the piezoresponse force microscope(PFM)and finite element method(FEM).The strong oxidizing active free radicals generated by the continuous piezoelectric polarized electric field of 6H-SiC,i.e.,·O_(2)^(-)and·OH,induce the decomposition reactions of colored organic dyes in *** the dyes are proven to degrade to harmless or less-harmful products gradually during the piezo-catalysis process by high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(HPLC-MS).Moreover,RhB is also decomposed efficiently by 6HSiC NPs under acidic and alkaline *** results prove the feasibility of 6H-SiC for decomposing common water pollutants under harsh conditions and provide a new perspective for water purification.

Nonmechanical pumping of liquids is of key importance for applications from the biomedical microfluidic chip to drug delivery systems. In this paper, a new electrokinetic pump （EOP） system with polycarbonate nanoehannel membrane sandwiched between two membrane holders was constructed. The pump was tested with water and phosphate buffer at 1-6 V applied voltage, the maximum pressure and flow rate are 0.32 MPa （3.2 atm） and 4.2 μL/min for phosphate buffer, respectively. This proof-of-concept pump shows its potential use for drugs or chemical agents delivery by the usage of different membrane materials.
