Objective To compare the therapeutic effects and safety of monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency(RF) ablation used during cardiac surgery to treat atrial *** We retrospectively studied a total of 81 patients with chronic atrial fibrillation who underwent open cardiac surgery with concomitant RF ablation between January 2007 and March ***-eight patients received bipolar RF ablation and 23 received monopolar RF ablation,*** sinus rhythm restoration rate,the procedural duration,the frequency of severe perioperative complications,and mortality were compared between the two *** The sinus rhythm restoration rate did not differ significantly between the two groups after follow-up of 15.1 ± 12.6 months(P=0.199).The frequencies of severe perioperative complications and mortality were also similar in the two *** total procedural time using bipolar RF ablation was significantly shorter than that using monopolar ablation(19.7±4.6 minutes vs.28.1±8.5 minutes,P< 0.001).Conclusions Both monopolar and bipolar RF ablation are safe and effective in treating chronic atrial fibrillation patients during open cardiac surgery,but bipolar RF ablation is more convenient in practice.

Acupoint Catgut Embedding Alleviates Insomnia in Different Chinese Medicine Syndrome Types: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective: To investigate the effects and safety of catgut embedding on alleviating insomnia. Methods: Totally 510 patients with insomnia were divided into 5 Chinese medicine(CM) syndrome types: Xin(Heart) and Pi(Spleen) deficiency, yin deficiency with excess fire, Xin and gut qi deficiency, Wei(Stomach) disorder, and qi and blood deficiency, respectively. These 5 types of patients were randomly assigned to a catgut embedding group, an acupuncture group or a medication group(30 cases in Xin and Pi deficiency type, Wei disorder type, Xin and gut qi deficiency type, respectively;40 cases in yin deficiency with excess fire type and qi and blood deficiency type, respectively). In the catgut embedding group, patients were treated by implanting catgut into acupoints once every 10 days for a total of 30 days. In the acupuncture group, patients were treated with acupuncture once per day over 30 days(excluding weekends);and patients in the medication group took 1 mg Eurodin Tablet orally every night for 30 days. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) was evaluated before treatment, on 30 and 60 days after the first treatment, respectively. The International Unified Sleep Efficiency Value(IUSEV) was measured at 30 and 60 days. The safety was evaluated after treatment and adverse events were analyzed. Results: The objective PSQI scores including subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency, sleep disturbance, daytime dysfunction, and total scores at 30 days were significantly improved compared with pre-treatment in the catgut embedding and acupuncture groups(P<0.01 or P<0.05). At 30 days, the PSQI scores in catgut embedding group were superior to the medication group in the patients with each type of insomnia, with the exception of sleep duration(P<0.01 or P<0.05). At 60 days, significant differences were found between the catgut embedding group and the medication group(P<0.01 for all indices). The IUSEV scores in the catgut embedding group

It is well known that ethacrynic acid (EA) can potentiate the ototoxicity of aminoglycoside antibiotics (AmAn) such as kanamycin (KM),if they were applied at the same ***,to create the model of EA-KMinduced cochlear lesion in rats,adult rats received a single injection of EA (75 mg/kg,intravenous injection),or followed immediately by KM (500 mg/kg,intramuscular injection).The hearing function was assessed by auditory brainstem response (ABR) measurement in response to click and/or tone bursts at 4,8,12,16,20,24,and 32 *** static microcirculation status in the stria vascularis after a single EA injection was evaluated with eosin *** pathological changes in cochlear and vestibular hair cells were also quantified after co-administration of EA and *** a single EA injection,blood flow in vessels supplying the stria vascularis rapidly ***,the blood supply to the cochlear lateral wall partially recovered 5 h after EA *** changes in ABR were basically parallel to the microcirculation changes in stria vascularis after single EA ***,disposable co-administration of EA and KM resulted in a permanent hearing loss and severe damage to the cochlear hair cells,but spared the vestibular hair *** the cochlear lateral wall is the important part of the blood-cochlea barrier,EA-induced anoxic damage to the epithelium of stria vascularis may enhance the entry of KM to the ***,experimental animal model of selective cochlear damage with normal vestibular systems can be reliably created through co-administration of EA and KM.

In this paper, we demonstrate the residual phase noise of a few microwave frequency dividers which usually limit the performance of frequency synthesizers. In order to compare these dividers under different operation frequencies, we calculate additional time jitters of these dividers by using the measured phase noise. The time jitters are various from -0.1 fs to 43 fs in a bandwidth from 1 Hz to 100 Hz in dependent of models and operation frequencies. The HMC series frequency dividers exhibit outstanding performance for high operation frequencies, and the time jitters can be sub-fs. The time jitters of SP8401, MC10EP139, and MC100LVEL34 are comparable or even below that of HMC series for low operation frequencies.

A series of azobenzene functionalized poly（aryl ether） copolymers（azo-PAEs） containing azo moieties on pendants was prepared by direct copolymerization. The amount of azobenzene chromophores could be controlled by the feed ratio of azo-monomer. Their chemical structures and properties were characterized by means of infrared（IR） spectrometry, UV-Vis, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance（Ill NMR）, difference scanning calorimetry（DSC）, and thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）. The results suggest that azo-PAEs had high glass transition temperatures（Tgs） and good thermal stability. By exposing their spin-coated films to an interference pattern laser beam, azo-PAEs could be used for the fabrication of thermal stable surface relief gratings（SRGs）.

Phosphorus concentration on the surface of seawater varies greatly with different environments,especially in *** molecular mechanism by which cyanobacteria adapt to fluctuating phosphorus bioavailability is still *** this study,transcriptomes and gene knockouts were used to investigate the adaptive molecular mechanism of a model coastal cyanobacterium Synechococcus *** 7002 during periods of phosphorus starvation and phosphorus recovery(adding sufficient phosphorus after phosphorus starvation).The findings indicated that phosphorus deficiency affected the photosynthesis,ribosome synthesis,and bacterial motility pathways,which recommenced after phosphorus was *** more,most of the metabolic pathways of cyanobacteria were enhanced after phosphorus recovery compared to the control which was kept in continuous phosphorus replete *** on transcriptome,54 genes potentially related to phosphorusdeficiency adaptation were selected and knocked out individually or in *** was found that five mutants showed weak growth phenotype under phosphorus deficiency,indicating the importance of the genes(A0076,A0549-50,A1094,A1320,A1895)in the adaptation of phosphorus *** mutants were found to grow better than the wild type under phosphorus deficiency,suggesting that the products of these genes(A0079,A0340,A2284–86)might influence the adaptation to phosphorus *** analysis revealed that cyanobacteria exposed to highly fluctuating phosphorus concentrations have more sophisticated phosphorus acquisition *** results elucidated that Synechococcus *** 7002 have variable phosphorus response mechanisms to adapt to fluctuating phosphorus concentration,providing a novel perspective of how cyanobacteria may respond to the complex and dynamic environments.
