Introduction—european-American norms are still used in the orthodontic treatment of emirates patients despite the different ethnic backgrounds of the emirates. The purpose of this study was to formulate cephalometric norms for lateral cephalometric mea-surements of emirates adults and to study gender differences. Methods—Lateral cephalometric radio-graphs of 176 emirates adults, 91 males and 85 fe-males, were selected according to the following crite-ria;an age range between 19 to 25 years, esthetically pleasing and harmonious faces with balanced and acceptable profiles and occlusions, normal skeletal and dental relationship, all permanent teeth present, and no history of orthodontic treatment or facial trauma. The mean values and standard deviations of 91 angular and 21 linear cephalometric variables were calculated using the Dolphin version 10.5 soft-ware package. The resulting norms for emirates male and female groups were compared using a student t-test. Results—Several statistically significant gender differences were noticeable. Skeletally, emirates males showed significantly greater (p erior, and posterior cranial base lengths as well as longer facial heights, greater SGn-FH (°), ANS Xi PM (°),and FH/MP (°) angles than females. In addition, emirates males had significantly greater (p eater (p ert (mm) than females. Dentally, emirates males had significantly greater (p emales. For soft tissue measurements there were significant gender differences (p ear measurements except for lower lip to e-plane and nose prominence measurements which have no significant gender difference. emirates males revealed greater measurements than females except for soft tissue con-vexity, Z-angle, and both upper and lower lips pro-trusion which were significantly greater in emirates females.

Background: The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has greatly challenged public health worldwide. A growing number of studies have reported gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. The study aimed to estimate the various digestive symptoms frequently reported in Covid-19 patients among the adult population of Bangladesh. Methods: In this descriptive, cross-sectional study, we enrolled confirmed patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to the COVID unit of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical college hospital, Dhaka from July 2020 to December 2020. All patients were COVID confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and were analyzed for clinical characteristics, laboratory findings and imaging study. Results: The study population consisted of 121 COVID-19-positive patients, among them, 57.85% were male and 42.15% female. The majority (43%) of the study population were in the age group of 31 - 40 years. The male to female ratio was 1.4:1. Nearly 94.2% of the sample population were married, among them 92.9% were male and 96.1% were female. Out of 121 Covid-19 patients, 30.65% had a contact history, 17.4% had a history of traveling or residing in an area reporting COVID-19 and 11.6% of family members were affected by Covid-19. Most of the patients had a fever (95%), cough (88.4%) and dyspnoea (43.8%), pneumonia (37.4%) and severe pneumonia (36.4%). In this study, 40% patients reported a digestive symptom including diarrhea 47.9%, vomiting 55.5%, loss of appetite 16.5%, abdominal pain 29.8%, abdominal bloating 24.8%, reflux 0%, jaundice 3.3%. Regarding co-morbidities, the majority had bronchial asthma (50%) followed by hypertension 46%, diabetes 38%, obesity 23%, and CKD 14% and heart disease 3%. Among 121 COVID-19 patients, 98% had recovered from the disease and 2% of patients expired. The antibiotic therapy has many problems, such as antibiotics resistance, hypersensitivity, direct toxicity, antibiotic-induced immunosuppresion and super-infections. This is highlighting the need for a new strategy for non-antibiotic therapy through the use of novel immunomodulators as naturally released ones (Lactoferrin). The present study investigates the potential of bovine lactoferrin (bLf), isolated from bovine milk whey, to prevent Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), escherichia coli (e. coli), Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aerogenosa) growth and then evaluates its immunomodulator effect. First, bLf isolation was attempted from bovine milk whey using a cation exchange chromatography by SP-Sepharose. Second, the antimicrobial activity assays were trailed to study the antimicrobial activity of bLf. Finally, the immune effect of bLf was studied by lymphocyte transformation test. It was found that bLf was separated around molecular weight of 80 kDa and showed significant inhibitory effect against e. coli followed by P. aeruginosa, S. agalactiae and S. aureus. bLf increased lymphocyte transformations mean values in a dose dependant manner. The highest transformations mean value was determined at 50 μg/mL. In conclusion, these results suggest that bLf is a potent natural antimicrobials and immunomodulator agent.

目的本研究旨在探讨影响全科医生对患者进行2型糖尿病筛查的因素,描述全科医生对这些因素的诠释以及他们与患者就筛查结果进行的沟通。方法本研究采用半结构式的基于病历诱导回顾的访谈方法。研究对象为来自密歇根大学医学院及医院系统的20位全科医生。访谈内容为,对通过立意抽样抽取的134例符合美国糖尿病协会标准需要进行2型糖尿病筛查的非糖尿病患者,全科医生是、否对其进行筛查的原因。访谈内容被录音,然后转写成文字,并进行定性分析。结果共有63例患者没有进行2型糖尿病筛查。没有给这些患者做筛查的原因是:49%的全科医生认为根据患者以前所做筛查的结果判断其不需要做;48%的全科医生解释为患者只是来做咨询而不是做健康维护检查。共有71例患者进行了2型糖尿病筛查。给这些患者做筛查的原因是:49%的全科医生认为根据患者以前所做筛查的异常结果判断其需要做;42%的全科医生根据患者的体质量判断其需要做,38%的全科医生根据患者的年龄判断其需要做。全科医生对患者的筛查结果诠释的正确率是89%,实事求是地将筛查结果告诉给患者的比例为95%。对查出有糖尿病前期的24例患者,58%的全科医生给出的预防糖尿病的建议是减肥、增加活动量。结论患者以前的2型糖尿病筛查结果,患者约全科医生要做的事项类型,患者体质量及年龄是影响全科医生对其是、否进行2型糖尿病筛查的因素。一般来说,全科医生能够正确地理解患者的筛查结果并实事求是地将其转达给患者;其对糖尿病前期患者给出的预防糖尿病的建议具有循证意义。

A new technique is developed for quantitative determination of rhenium in aqueous media containing molybdenum, iron and copper ions. The method seems easier and more accurate than the traditional ones. It consists of the formation of rhenium thiocyanate complex, which is extracted with chloroform at the presence of hydrochloric acid. This complex is a highly visible light absorbent that can easily be detected with the aid of a spectrophotometer. The maximum absorbance (λmax) observed for this complex was in the visible range of 430-435 nm. The experimental results showed that in a concentration range from 0.5-8 mg/L, the absorbance behavior of the rhenium thiocyanate complex is followed to the Beer-Lambert law.
