Short health scale: A valid measure of health-related quality of life in Korean-speaking patients with inflammatory bowel disease

AIM To evaluate the short health scale(SHS),a new,simple,four-part visual analogue scale questionnaire that is designed to assess the impact of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)on health-related quality of life(HRQOL),in Korean-speaking patients with *** The SHS was completed by 256 patients with Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC).Individual SHS items were correlated with inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire(IBDQ)dimensions and with disease activity to assess ***-retest reliability,responsiveness and patient or disease characteristics with probable association with high SHS scores were *** Of 256 patients with IBD,139(54.3%)had UC and 117(45.7%)had *** correlation coefficients between SHS questions about"symptom burden","activities of daily living",and"disease-related worry"and their corresponding dimensions in the IBDQ ranged from0.62 to 0.71,compared with correlation coefficients ranging from-0.45 to-0.61 for their non-corresponding *** was a stepwise increase in SHS scores,with increasing disease activity in both CD and UC(all P valuesility was confirmed with test-retest correlations ranging from 0.68 to 0.90(all P values<0.001).Responsiveness was confirmed with the patients who remained in *** SHS scores remained unchanged,except for the SHS dimension"disease-related worry".In the multivariate analysis,female sex was associated with worse"general well-being"(OR=2.28,95%CI:1.02-5.08)along with worse disease *** The SHS is a valid and reliable measure of HRQOL in Korean-speaking patients with IBD.

Herein,we have proposed a method that uses a highly stretchable and conductive fiber-based multi-angle fiber array,which precisely measures human joint motion in various degrees of freedom(flexion and rotation)at the shoulders,knees,and wrists in real *** embedding conductive carbon nanotubes(CNTs)within spandex fibers of high elasticity and shape recovery ratio,we monitored joint motion stably without degrading the fiber’s conductivity even during repeated stretching and contraction of different *** strain occurring in a specific direction was monitored using mapping images generated due to the change in resistance that occurred when 12 CNT-embedded spandex fibers arranged in radial lines at intervals of 15°were stretched or contracted by an external *** proposed high-precision joint-monitoring technology measures human motion accurately and is applicable for use in wearable healthcare devices that require precise measurements.

S-allyl-L-cysteine (SAC) is an organosulfur compound derived from aged garlic extract (AGE). Studies have reported that AGE possesses bioprotective capacity, including antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antitumor effects. The present study examined the protective effects of SAC against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Ten male Wistar rats aged 11 - 12 weeks were randomly divided into two groups (five rats/group) as control and SAC groups. All rats had ad libitum access to water, and the SAC group received water containing SAC intragastrically (200 mg/kg) once daily for five consecutive weeks. In the fifth experimental week, 50% CCl4 in olive oil (1 mL/kg) was administered intraperitoneally three times a week to induce liver injury in both groups. Rats were sacrificed at 24 hours after the last CCl4ily:Verdana;"> injection, and liver tissues were excised for histopathological, immunohistochemical and antioxidant analyses. AIM： To evaluate the usefulness of denaturing high performance liquid chromatography （DHPLC） for analyzing microsatellite instability （MSI） status in stool DNA of patients with colorectal cancer. METHODS： A total of 80 cancer tissues from patients with primary sporadic colorectal tumor （proximal cancer： 27, distal cancer： 53） and matched stool （which were employed for comparison with the tissues） were analyzed for MSI status in BAT 26. DNA samples extracted from stool were evaluated by nested polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and DHPLC for MSI analysis. RESULTS： Six cases （7.5%） of MSI were identified in BAT 26 from 80 cancer tissues. All the stool DNA samples from patients whose cancer tissue showed IVlSI also displayed MSI in BAT 26. CONCLUSION： As MSI is one of the established fecal DNA markers to screen colorectal cancer, we propose to use DHPLC for the IVlSI analysis in fecal DNA.
