The goal of this topic is a synthesis of the main characteristics of iron in groundwater and the oxidation process used to remove it. Indeed, the kinetics of chemical oxidation of iron (II) was examined with reconstituted water (distilled water + iron sulphate) and proceeded to the application in the groundwater samples taken from South Pout (Senegal) precisely in the drilling PS2. The sources of iron are natural or anthropogenic. In Senegalese waters, its content is variable and sometimes exceeds the standards of potability. Despite the diversification of iron removal process, chemical oxidation is the most used solution in drinking water treatment plants in Senegalese rural areas. applied oxidation processes such as aeration and chlorination, however, are insufficient to produce drinking water with an iron concentration in accordance with standards of potability.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of protection of employees who are exposed to radiation in a level III hospital establishment. It was a descriptive cross-sectional survey of six months’ duration, involving eight level III Hospitals (aristide Le Dantec, Fann, Hoggy, Hear, abass Ndao, Pikine, Touba, and Thiès) in Senegal. Sixty-one of the one hundred questionnaires were recovered (overall response rate of 61%). The population of the study was mainly female (54.1%). The average age was 38.57 with extremes ranging from 23 to 65 years old. In the places where ionizing radiation sources are handled, only at the aristide Le Dantec Hospital did we find a “competent person in radiation protection”. This explained the lack of a classification of employees and work areas. Forty out of sixty-one (73.77%) had no knowledge of the basic principles of radiation protection (justification, optimisation, dose limitation) and had not ever taken radiation holidays. For radiovigilance, exposure time limits to ionizing radiation concerned only 29/61 or 47.54% of the study population. The inverse square law of distance was known by only 40 workers, of whom 15 had no compliance. We found the presence of dosifilms in only 7/61 or 11.47% of the workers. On the other hand, the use of lead aprons was well established and concerned 57/61 workers, i.e., 93.44%. In sum, ionizing radiation causes adverse health effects. The absence of a good radiation protection culture in Senegal requires the presence of at least 4 to 5 competent persons in radiation protection for quality training of workers in radiobiology, radiopathology and radiation protection.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma, characterized by high clinical and biological heterogeneity. Patients typically present with progressive lymphadenopathy, extranodal disease and may also experience fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. We report here the case of a 16-year-old female with osteoarticular pain, dizziness, and dyspnea on exertion. Clinical examination showed no lymphadenopathy. Complete blood count (CBC) revealed pancytopenia and marrow smears found to be hypocellular. Initial diagnosis favored secondary myelofibrosis. Diagnosis of bone marrow involvement by DLBCL was retained on bone marrow histology and immunohistochemistry which showed infiltration of large B lymphoid cells. The patient was treated by immunochemotherapy R-CHOP regimen. This case highlights a very rare and atypical circumstance of discovery of DLBCL with myelofibrosis as an initial symptom. Prognosis value of this presentation and management difficulties are also discussed.

Effects of the Shading Rate on the Electrical Parameters of CIGS-Based Solar Modules

The aim of this article is to study the effects of the shading rate on the electrical performance parameters of CIGS PV modules. The study concerns a new flexible CIGS type photovoltaic module with a power of 90an>an> an>an>W, manufactured by the company Shenzhen Shine Solar Coan>an>.an>an>an style="font-family:Verdana;">an style="font-family:Verdana;">an style="font-family:Verdana;">, Ltd. This module, reference SN-CIGS90, is tested under the initial conditions to ensure its correct operation and to determine the initial values of the electrical parameters before shading. after this characterization test, the module is exposed under the actual operating conditions of the Renewable Energies Study and Research Center (CERER), located in Dakar, then 4 types of shading are performed with the same mask: partial shading 25% partial shading, 50% partial shading, 75% partial shading, and 100% full shading. The variation rates obtained on the experimental values of the 4 types of shading carried out determine that the shading phenomenon constitutes a factor that influences negatively on the electrical parameters of a CIGS-based PV module. Indeed, for 25% of the surface of the shaded module, there is a reduction of 58.139% of the maximum power and of 60.507% of the efficiency and for shading of 100%, the module loses 84.436% of its maximum power and 84.135% of its performance.

Objective: To find a more accessible and less restrictive mean such as serum-ascites albumin gradient (SaaG) to predict esophageal varices (EV) in cirrhotics with ascit. Patients and methods: Descriptive and analytical studies based on the retrospective collection of data on 125 patients’ records in the hepatogastroenterology unit of the University Hospital Campus of Lome (Togo) from January 1, 2008 to March 31, 2018 were included. Cirrhotic patients aged 15 years and older had performed cytochemical analysis of ascites fluid and upper gastrointestinal fibroscopy and had a protidogram. Statistical analysis was done by R Studio Software 3.4.2. Results: The mean age was 48.70 years;there was a male predominance (70.40%) with a sex ratio of 2.38. Protein levels in ascitic fluid was Conclusion: Our study noted that at an upper threshold of 1.10 g/dl, the SaaG significantly predicted the presence of EV.

Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment in One-Eyed Patients: Therapeutic and Prognostic Challenges

Background: Retinal detachment is a major ophthalmologic emergency. The rhegmatogenous form is the most common and its management is exclusively surgical as soon as possible. This urgency becomes major and absolute when it occurs in a particular monocular vision. Purpose: To analyze the clinical forms of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), the results and the complications of their management in monophthalmic patients. Methodology: This was a retrospective and analytical study from June 2007 to December 2019. We included all patients who received a consultation for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. all patients were seen by at least two posterior segment specialists and all were operated on by the same surgeon. Results: 57 files (57 eyes) were collected with an average age of 44.71 years and a sex ratio of 7.14. The average consultation time is 40.80 days. Patients complained of decreased visual acuity in 96.49% of cases. We had myopia in 49.12% of cases and 91.23% of patients were phakic. Retinal holes were found in 31.58% of our patients and giant tears in 17.54%. The mean retinal detachment extension was 2.52 quadrants and the macula was raised in 32 cases. The average time taken to take charge was 10 days. Detachment surgery was performed in 42 patients with 100% anatomical recovery. Conclusion: Retinal detachment in one-eyed patient is a major ophthalmic emergency. Its management must not suffer from any delay. Post-operative outcomes are relatively similar between the internal and external pathways. In one-eyed patient, silicone can be left alone in the absence of complications.

Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Prenatal Consultations for Pathological Pregnancies at the Maternity Unit of abass Ndao Hospital, Dakar, Senegal

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in health systems. The objective was to assess the effect of Covid-19 on the frequency of prenatal consultations (PNCs) for pathological pregnancies at the abass NDaO Hospital Centre. Materials and Methods: This was primarily a retrospective study conducted at the abass NDaO Hospital maternity ward. The target was the medical records of women followed for a pathological pregnancy at maternity from July 2019 to November 2020. Second, the department’s qualified staffs were asked about their experiences with the Covid-19 pandemic. Data collection was carried out between October 2021 and February 2022. Results: a total of 690 prenatal charts for pathological pregnancy were collected: 375 (54%) before the pandemic compared to 315 during Covid-19 (46%). The average age of women was 28.15 years. The age group 25 and 35 was the most represented (36.81%). Reasons for consultation were dominated by threats of premature delivery (51%), followed by severe pre-eclampsia (14%) and premature membrane rupture (11%), respectively. The frequency of prenatal consultations (PNCs) was inversely related to pandemic dynamics and significant monthly variations were observed. Qualified health personnel were midwives (71.40%) and gynecologists (28.60%). During the pandemic, more than the majority of staff (67%) worked 3 days a week, and 24% of health workers 5 days. The majority of staff (60%) reported experiencing overwork during the pandemic. Non-compliance with consultation days was noted in 38% of health providers. Protective equipment was not provided to 14% of the staff. Staff difficulties during prenatal consultations were fear of occupational exposure (12%) and patient reluctance (88%). Conclusion: The Covid-19 pandemic is having a major impact on prenatal consultations for pathological pregnancies at abass NDaO Hospital. New expressions of back surface recombination of excess minority carriers in the base of silicon solar are expressed dependent on both, the thickness and the diffusion coefficient which is in relationship with the doping rate. The optimum thickness thus obtained from the base of the solar cell allows the saving of the amount of material needed in its manufacture without reducing its efficiency.
