Combined Computational and Experimental Study on the Adsorption and Inhibition Effects of N_2O_2 Schiff Base on the Corrosion of API 5L Grade B Steel in 1 mol/L HCl

The electrochemical behavior of low carbon steel （API 5L grade B） in 1 mol/L HCI solution with different concentrations of N,Nr-bis（4-formylphenol）-trimethylenediamine Schiff base was studied by electrochemical techniques and density functional theory analysis. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing inhibitor concentration and decreased with increasing temperature. The high inhibition efficiency was attributed to the blocking of active sites by adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the steel surface. Thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption and activation processes were determined. Galvanostatic polarization data indicated that Schiff base act as a mixed-type inhibitor and the adsorption isotherm obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Results obtained from quantum chemical studies show excellent correlations between the quantum chemical parameters and the experimental inhibition efficiencies using density functional theory at the B3LYP/6-31G（d,p） and B3LYP/3-21G basis set levels and ab initio calculations using HF/6-31G（d,p） and HF/3-21G methods.

The extraction and stripping of Cu and Ni ions from synthetic and industrial solutions of Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine containing Cu(770 mg/L),Ni(3200 mg/L),Fe(800 mg/L)and Zn(200 mg/L)were comprehensively investigated using D2 EHPA,LIX 984,Cyanex 302,Chemorex CP 150 and Acorga 5774 diluted in *** influential parameters such as mixing speed and time,concentration of extractant,p H and temperature were considered in extraction ***,stripping of Cu and Ni was examined using different inorganic and organic acids(sulfuric,hydrochloric,nitric and citric acids)with different *** results indicated that the highest extractions of Cu and Ni occurred within 3 min,with the mixing speed of 500 r/min,28℃and A/O ratio of 1:***,Cu was extracted by LIX 984 at the concentration of 10%(v/v),whereas Ni was extracted by Cyanex 302 at the concentration of 30%(v/v),*** optimal p H for Cu and Ni extraction is in ranges of 2-3 and 4-5,*** and Ni were selectively extracted with the recoveries of 85%,93%and 77%,82%from synthetic and industrial solutions containing Ni,Cu,Zn and Fe ions,*** results of optimal condition showed that 96%of Ni and 93%of Cu were stripped from the synthetic and industrial ***,four elements Zn,Fe,Cu and Ni were extracted in three stages with D2 EHPA,LIX 984 and Cyanex 302 extractants respectively with the least impurities.

The application of leaching process to extracting Mn from a low-grade manganese ore was investigated using a software based design of experiments. Four main parameters, i.e. sulfuric acid concentration, oxalic acid concentration, time and temperature were considered in a central composite response surface design. The recoveries of Mn and Fe were selected as response of design. The optimum conditions under which the Mn and Fe recoveries were the highest and the time and temperature were the lowest were determined using statistical analysis and analysis of variance （ANOVA）. The results showed that Mn and Fe recoveries were 93.44% and 15.72% under the optimum condition, respectively. Also, sulfuric acid concentration was the most effective parameter affecting the process. The amounts of sulfuric and oxalic acid were obtained to be 7% and 42.50 g/L in optimum condition and the best time and temperature were 65 min and 63 ℃.

Electrochemical and corrosion behaviour of reinforced steel embedded in cement pastes incorporating different amounts of silica fume as a partial replacement of cement has been studied in chloride and sulphate solutions by using different electrochemical techniques. The results indicate that, while steel passivity degree is low in the control samples' upon soaking in the corrosive media, it has been high in samples incorporating silica fume and increased with increasing silica fume content. The improvement effect of silica fume may be attributed to the pore solution structure of the cement paste, which limits the mobility of aggressive ions near the surface of the steel. The mechanism of steel corrosion due to chloride and sulphate attack and passivation effect of silica fume are discussed.

Genetic algorithm and partial least square（GA-PLS）,kernel PLS（KPLS） and Levenberg-Marquardt artificial neural network（L-M ANN） techniques were used to investigate the correlation between retention time（RT） and descriptors for 15 nanoparticle compounds obtained by the comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography system（GC × GC）.Application of the dodecanethiol monolayer-protected gold nanoparticle（MPN） column was for a high-speed separation as the second column of GC × *** L-M ANN model with the final optimum network architecture of [13-5-1] gave a significantly better performance than the other *** is the first research on the quantitative structure-retention relationship（QSRR） of nanoparticle compounds using the GA-PLS,GA-KPLS and L-M ANN.

An emerging real-time ground compaction and quality control, known as intelligent compaction(IC), has been applied for efficiently optimising the full-area compaction. Although IC technology can provide real-time assessment of uniformity of the compacted area, accurate determination of the soil stiffness required for quality control and design remains challenging. In this paper, a novel and advanced numerical model simulating the interaction of vibratory drum and soil beneath is developed. The model is capable of evaluating the nonlinear behaviour of underlying soil subjected to dynamic loading by capturing the variations of damping with the cyclic shear strains and degradation of soil modulus. The interaction of the drum and the soil is simulated via the finite element method to develop a comprehensive dataset capturing the dynamic responses of the drum and the soil. Indeed, more than a thousand three-dimensional(3D) numerical models covering various soil characteristics, roller weights, vibration amplitudes and frequencies were adopted. The developed dataset is then used to train the inverse solver using an innovative machine learning approach, i.e. the extended support vector regression, to simulate the stiffness of the compacted soil by adopting drum acceleration records. Furthermore, the impacts of the amplitude and frequency of the vibration on the level of underlying soil compaction are *** proposed machine learning approach is promising for real-time extraction of actual soil stiffness during compaction. Results of the study can be employed by practising engineers to interpret roller drum acceleration data to estimate the level of compaction and ground stiffness during compaction.

The ongoing need for better fuel economy and lower exhaust pollution of vehicles has increased the employment of electric power steering(EPS)in *** design of EPS for a product family reduces the development and fabrication costs *** this paper,the TOPSIS method along with the NSGA-Ⅱis employed to find an optimum family of EPS for an automotive platform.A multi-objective optimization problem is defined considering road feel,steering portability,RMS of Ackerman error,and product family penalty function(PFPF)as the conflicting objective *** results for the single objective optimization problems and the ones for the multi-objective optimization problem,as well as two suggested trade-off design points are presented,compared and *** the two suggested points,performance at one objective function is deteriorated by about 1%,while the commonality is increased by 20%–40%,which shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in first finding the non-dominated design points and then selecting the trade-off among the obtained *** results indicate that the obtained trade-off points have superior performance within the product family with maximum number of common parts.
