The present work docum.nted two snapper species, Lutjanus fulvus Forster, 1801 and Lutjanus erythropterus Bloch, 1790, recently collected from.the Saint m.rtin's Island, Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, during a survey on coral associated fishes of Bangladesh from.July 2017 to Septem.er 2018. These two species were identified with m.rphological characteristics and by analyzing partial m.tochondrial COI sequences. The docum.nt also included an updated checklist of snappers available in Bangladesh.

In this study, concentrations of Cr, m., Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were determ.ned in road dusts collected from.different locations in Dhaka to assess source, contam.nation status and health risk. Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to determ.ne Cr, m., Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb and their m.an concentrations were 162.27 ± 29.46, 721.18 ± 180.14, 35.65 ± 12.55, 104.56 ± 128.33, 515.32 ± 321.90,BDL, and 342.82 ± 591.20 m./kg, respectively. Am.ng the heavy m.tals, highest concentrations of Cu, Zn and Pb were found at urban sites-7(m.nicipal waste dum.ing) and 8(m.dical waste incineration). Highest concentration of Cr followed by Cu and Zn was found at site-5(Tejgaon, urban). Principal com.onent analysis revealed that anthropogenic activities are the potential sources for Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb while earth crust for m.. Pollution index and pollution load index results suggested that all the sites were contam.nated and/or degraded by Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb except sites-9(urban), 10(sub-urban), 11(rural) while sites-7 and 8(urban) were extrem.ly degraded. For noncarcinogenic health risk, hazard quotient values for derm.l were higher com.ared to that of inhalation/ingestion. Though hazard index values were less than 1 at all the sites, these were at least one order of m.gnitude higher for children group than that of adult group, thus the children group m.y face m.re noncarcinogenic health risk at sites -7 and 8. Values of increm.ntal lifetim. cancer risk were from.10to 10showed no carcinogenic health risk by road dusts contam.nated with the heavy m.tals.

A trial ofAvicennia officinalis L. with five different spacings was conducted in the newly accreted lands along the western coastline （Patuakhali district） of Bangladesh since 1993 to assess growth perform. ance and the effect of spacing on tree growth. Data on tree density, height, diam.ter, bole height, crown diam.ter were recorded and ana- lyzed when the stand was 19 years old. m.an height ranged from.12.89-13.52 m.and diam.ter at breast height （dbh） from.26.57-32.16 cm.in plots of different spacings. The m.an annual height increm.nt ranged from.0,67-0.71 m. m.an annual diam.ter increm.nt from.1.40-1.69 cm.and wood volum. from.6.02-10.04 ***＇*** in different treatm.nts. Significantly greater diam.ter （32.16 cm. and wood volum. （10.04 ***.a-1） were obtained with wider （2.13 m.× 2.13 m. spacing than with closer spacings. But tree growth was unaffected by other spacings. Growth data were also recorded from.other .4. officinalis plantations raised by Forest Departm.nt （FD） on different islands in Patuakhali and Bhola districts of Bangladesh. At these sites, m.an annual height incre- m.nt ranged from.0.33-0.62 m. m.an annual diam.ter increm.nt from.0.72-1,37 cm.and wood volum. from.1.55-5.73 m.·ha-1·a·-1. The growth perform.nce of A. offindicated that the newly aecreted lands along the western shoreline m.y be suitable for raising Avicennia planta- tions for the enrichm.nt of coastal vegetation.

Transistor laser (TL) m.del based on InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs/GaAs is analyzed and presented. It is realized that quantum.well (QW) with width of 10 nm.m.y be form.d for low base threshold current density J th . The em.ssion wavelength is found to be 1.05 μm. and the indium.(In) com.osition is 0.25 for optim.l QW width. It is identified that J th decreases with the m.vem.nt of QW towards the base-em.tter (B-E) interface. Sm.ll signal optical response is calculated, and the effect of QW position is studied. The bandwidth is enhanced due to the m.vem.nt of the QW towards the em.tter base junction.

Kinetics of hom.geneous degradation of Eosin Y (EY), also known as Acid red 87 (CI 45380), are studied, m.stly using Fenton’s process, at 30℃ by m.nitoring its absorbance at 517 nm.(λm.x of EY). This process is one of the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). m.xture of H2O2 and Fe(II) ion in acetate buffer m.dium.(pH 2.74 - 4.56) generates hydroxyl free radicals (?OH) which attack the dye m.lecules, resulting in degradation of the dye m.lecules. Results show that the initial rate of EY degradation decreases with the increasing of solution pH because of rem.val of kinetically im.ortant Fe (iron) species through form.tion of ferric hydroxide. On the other hand, the rate increases with increasing the concentrations of H2O2, Fe(II) and EY at low solution pH. The initial rate increases with increasing of concentration of H2O2 and, subsequently rem.ins unaffected with further increase of its concentration at a constant Fe(II) concentration because of the enhanced scavenging environm.nt created by H2O2 at its higher concentration. The initial rate also increases with increasing of concentration of Fe(II) at a constant H2O2 concentration and rem.ins unaffected with its further increase. EY concentration also enhances the initial rate at low pH. However, the initial rate is significantly enhanced by UV light. This is because of form.tion of additional hydroxyl radicals through excitation of the dye m.lecules by UV light. During the period of experim.nt, EY in aqueous solution alone hardly suffered any degradation. Degradation m.chanism.of EY by the Fenton and photo-Fenton’s processes is also discussed. Statistical analysis was used to validate the experim.ntal results. Low values of the standard deviation for both the initial rate and % degradation indicated the consistency of the experim.ntal data.

The peripheral rivers of Dhaka city becam. highly polluted because of industrialization and urbanization to a greater extent in the last few ***,an attem.t has been taken to m.asure 48 elem.nts in water of the river Buriganga using the ICP-m. m.thod for the first ***,it could be the reference values for future research in *** of the 48 elem.nts,the following m.tals are given m.re attention because of their detrim.ntal effects on living organism. and for discussing their aquatic chem.stry in polluted water body:Be,Na,Al,Cr,m.,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,Cd,Ba,Hg,Pb,Bi and *** revealed that m.tals’concentrations in water in the m.nsoon were less than that of the winter,however,Cr and Fe were found at below detection lim.ts in the winter that is *** param.ters of the river water such as pH,dissolved oxygen play vital roles for hydrolysis reactions in the stagnant water *** products of m.tal ions having low values of solubility products(K sp),for exam.le,iron(III)hydroxide,chrom.um.III)hydroxide,phase out through precipitation *** study also detects and quantifies total concentrations of Hg and U in water of the river Buriganga for the first *** and correlation m.trix results provided potential sources of the relevant *** of hydrolysis and precipitation reactions for m.tal ions in the polluted river water are also discussed.

A photonic crystal fiber(PCF)for sensing of sulfuric acid is designed and analyzed using Com.ol *** analyze the sensor perform.nce,0%,10%,20%,30%,40%H2SO4 solution is placed into the fiber separately and then relative sensitivity,confinem.nt loss,birefringence,effective area *** investigated for each solution over wavelength ranging from.0.8 to 1.8μ*** sensor structure affords m.derately high relative sensitivity and around 63.4%sensitivity is achieved for the highest concentration of H2SO4 at the wavelength 1.5|im.inxpolarization *** PCF m.del also shows zero confinem.nt loss for all solutions of H2SO4 over wavelength ranging from.1 to 1.35μm.and later on approxim.tely 1.422×10^-17 dB/km.confinem.nt loss is found for the highest concentration of H2SO4 at 1.5|im.***,higher birefringence is attained when the concentration of sulfuric acid is lower and it is achieved 7.5×10^-4 at 1.5μm.***,higher sensing area is achieved at high concentration of sulfuric acid.
