hierarchical networks are frequently encountered in animal groups,gene networks,and artificial engineering systems such as multiple robots,unmanned vehicle systems,smart grids,wind farm networks,and so *** structure of a large directed hierarchical network is often strongly influenced by reverse edges from lower-to higher-level nodes,such as lagging birds’howl in a flock or the opinions of lowerlevel individuals feeding back to higher-level ones in a social *** study reveals that,for most large-scale real hierarchical networks,the majority of the reverse edges do not affect the synchronization process of the entire network;the synchronization process is influenced only by a small part of these reverse edges along specific *** surprisingly,a single effective reverse edge can slow down the synchronization of a huge hierarchical network by over 60%.The effect of such edges depends not on the network size but only on the average in-degree of the involved *** overwhelming majority of active reverse edges turn out to have some kind of“bunching”effect on the information flows of hierarchical networks,which slows down synchronization *** finding refines the current understanding of the role of reverse edges in many natural,social,and engineering hierarchical networks,which might be beneficial for precisely tuning the synchronization rhythms of these *** study also proposes an effective way to attack a hierarchical network by adding a malicious reverse edge to it and provides some guidance for protecting a network by screening out the specific small proportion of vulnerable nodes.

A Multilayer Network Constructed for herb and Prescription Efficacy Analysis

Chinese Medicine(CM)has been widely used as an important avenue for disease prevention and treatment in China especially in the form of CM prescriptions combining sets of herbs to address patients’symptoms and ***,the selection and compatibility of herbs are complex and abstract due to intrinsic relationships between herbal properties and their overall *** analysis is applied to demonstrate the complex relationships between individual herbal efficacy and the overall function of CM *** illustrate their connections and correlations,prescription function(PF),prescription herb(Ph),and herbal efficacy(hE)intranetworks are proposed based on CM theory to identify relationships between herbs and *** three networks are then connected by PF-Ph and Ph-hE interlayer networks adopting herb dosage to form a multidimensional heterogeneous network,a Prescription-herb-Function Network(PhFN).The network is applied to 112 classic prescriptions from Treatise on Exogenous Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases to illustrate the application of *** PhFN is constructed including 146 functions in PF intra network,89 herbs in the Ph intra network,and 163 herbal efficacies in the hE intra *** results show that herb pairs with synergistic actions have stronger relevance,such as licorice-cassia twig,licorice-Chinese date,fresh ginger-Chinese date,*** integration of dosage to the network helps to indicate the main herbs for cluster analysis and automatic *** also reveals the internal relationships between the functions of prescriptions and composed herbal efficacies.

In situ TEM investigation of electron irradiation and aging-induced high-density nanoprecipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3y-1Zn-0.5Zr alloy

In-situ electron irradiation and aging are applied to introduce high-density precipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3y-1Zn-0.5Zr(GWZ1031K,wt.%)alloy to improve the *** results show that the hardness of the Mg alloy after irradiation for 10 h and aging for 9 h at 250℃ is 1.64 GPa,which is approximately 64% higher than that of the samples before being *** is mainly attributed to γ'precipitates on the basal plane after irradiation and the high-density nanoscale β'precipitates on the prismatic plane after aging,which should be closely related to the irradiation-induced homogenous *** latter plays a key role in precipitation *** result paves a way to improve the mechanical properties of metallic materials by tailoring the precipitation through irradiation and aging.

“yin-yang philosophy” for the design of anticancer drug delivery nanoparticles

Understanding the in vivo transport process provides guidelines for designing ideal nanoparticles (NPs) with higher efficacy and fewer off-target effects. Many factors, such as particle size, morphology, surface potential, structural stability, and etc., may influence the delivering process of NPs due to the existence of various physiological barriers within the body. herein, we summarise the distinct influences of NP physicochemical properties on the four consecutive in vivo transport steps: (1) navigating with bloodstream within blood vessels, (2) transport across vasculature walls into tumour tissues, (3) intratumoural transport through the interstitial space, and (4) cellular uptake & intracellular delivery by cancerous cells. We found that the philosophy behind the current consensus for NP design has certain similarities to the “yin-yang” theory in traditional Chinese culture. Almost all physicochemical properties, regardless of big or small sizes, long or short length, positive or negative zeta potentials, are double-edged swords. The balance of potential benefits and side effects, drug selectivity and accessibility should be fully considered when optimising particle design, similar to the “yin-yang harmony”. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the advancements in NPs research, focusing on their distinct features in tumour targeting, drug delivery, and cell uptake. Additionally, it deliberates on future developmental trends and potential obstacles, thereby aiming to uncover the ways these characteristics influence the NPs’ biological activity and provide theoretical guidance for the targeted delivery of NPs. © 2024, Chinese Medical Multimedia Press Co Ltd. Effect of radiative loss mechanisms on FIR thermometric parameters of Nd^(3+)-doped lithium tellurite glasses

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Environmental pollution,such as water contamination,is a critical issue that must be absolutely ***,three different morphologies of tungsten-based photocatalysts(WO_(3)nanorods,WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanobricks,WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanorods)are made using a simple hydrothermal method by changing the solvents(h_(2)O,DMF,aqueous hCl solution).The as-prepared nanocatalysts have excellent thermal stability,large porosity,and high *** results show all materials have good photocatalytic activity in aqueous media,with WO_(3)/WS_(2)nanorods(NRs)having the best activity in the photodegradation of bisphenol A(BPA)under visible-light *** may originate from increased migration of charge carriers and effective prevention of electron–hole recombination in WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs,whereby this photocatalyst is able to generate more reactive·Oh and·O_(2)^(–)species,leading to greater photocatalytic *** 99.6% of BPA is photodegraded within 60 min when using 1.5 g/L WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs and 5.0 mg/L BPA at ph ***,the optimal conditions(ph,catalyst dosage,initial BPA concentration)for WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs are also elaborately *** rod-like heterostructures are expressed as potential catalysts with excellent photostability,efficient reusability,and highly active effectivity in different types of *** particular,the removal efficiency of BPA by WO_(3)/WS_(2)NRs reduces by only 1.5% after five recycling runs and even reaches 89.1%in contaminated lake *** study provides promising insights for the nearly complete removal of BPA from wastewater or different water resources,which is advantageous to various applications in environmental remediation.

Electron kinetic effects in back-stimulated Raman scattering bursts driven by broadband laser pulses

We examine electron kinetic effects in broadband-laser-driven back-stimulated Raman scattering(BSRS)bursts using particle-in-cell *** bursts occur during the nonlinear stage,causing reflectivity spikes and generating large numbers of hot ***-duration simulations are performed to observe burst events,and a simplified model is developed to eliminate the interference of the broadband laser’s random intensity *** the simplified model,we isolate and characterize the spectrum of electron plasma *** spectrum changes from a sideband structure to a turbulence-like structure during the burst.A significant asymmetry in the spectrum is *** asymmetry is amplified and transferred to electron phase space by high-intensity broadband laser pulses,leading to violent vortex-merging and generation of hot *** proportion of hot electrons increases from 6.76%to 14.7%during a single violent burst *** demonstrate that kinetic effects profoundly influence the BSRS evolution driven by broadband lasers.

Stress and illness connection is complex and involves multiple physiological *** ginsengs,reputed for their broad-spectrum“cure-all”effect,are widely prescribed to treat stress and related ***,the identity of ginseng’s“cure-all”medicinal compounds that relieve stress remains ***,we identify ginsentides as the principal bioactives that coordinate multiple systems to restore homeostasis in response to *** are disulfide-rich,cell-penetrating and proteolytic-stable *** affinity-enrichment mass spectrometry target identification together with in vitro,ex vivo and in vivo validations,we show that highly purified or synthetic ginsentides promote vasorelaxation by producing nitric oxide through endothelial cells via intracellular PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,alleviate a1-adrenergic receptor overactivity by reversing phenylephrine-induced constriction of aorta,decrease monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells via CD166/ESAM/CD40 and inhibit P2y12 receptors to reduce platelet *** administered ginsentides were effective in animal models to reduce ADP-induced platelet aggregation,to prevent collagen and adrenalineinduced pulmonary thrombosis as well as anti-stress behavior of tail suspension and forced swimming tests in ***,these results strongly suggest that ginsentides are the principal panacea compounds of ginsengs because of their ability to target multiple extra-and intra-cellular proteins to reverse stress-induced damages.

A new type of symmetry,ren-symmetry,describing anyon physics and corresponding topological physics,is ***-symmetry is a generalization of super-symmetry which is widely applied in super-symmetric physics such as super-symmetric quantum mechanics,super-symmetric gravity,super-symmetric string theory,super-symmetric integrable systems and so *** and Grassmann numbers are,in some sense,dual conceptions,and it turns out that these conceptions coincide for the ren situation,that is,a similar conception of ren-number(R-number)is devised for *** particular,some basic results of the R-number and ren-symmetry are exposed which allow one to derive,in principle,some new types of integrable systems including ren-integrable models and ren-symmetric integrable *** examples of ren-integrable KdV-type systems and ren-symmetric KdV equations are explicitly given.

The generation of ultrashort high-power light sources in the mid-infrared(mid-IR)to terahertz(Thz)range is of interest for applications in a number of fields,from fundamental research to biology and *** conventional laser technology,photon deceleration in plasma wakes provides an alternative approach to the generation of ultrashort mid-IR or Thz ***,we present a photon deceleration scheme for the efficient generation of ultrashort mid-IR or Thz pulses by using an intense driver laser pulse with a relatively short wavelength and a signal laser pulse with a relatively long *** signal pulse trails the driver pulse with an appropriate time delay such that it sits at the front of the second wake bubble that is driven by the driver *** to its relatively long wavelength,the signal pulse will be subjected to a large gradient of the refractive index in the plasma wake ***,the photon deceleration in the plasma wake becomes faster and more efficient for signal pulses with longer *** greatly enhances the capacity and efficiency of photon deceleration in the generation of ultrashort high-power light sources in the long-wavelength IR and Thz spectral ranges.
