Strains of live Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast have exhibited probiotic effects in ruminants. This study investigated the effects of the dietary yeast supplement, S. cerevisiae(Yea-Sacc^(1026)), on primiparous(PP)and multiparous(MP) Egyptian buffaloes in early to mid-lactation. Lactating buffaloes were fed either a basal total mixed ration(TMR, control; 4 PP and 8 MP) or the basal TMR plus 10 g Yea-Sacc^(1026) per buffalo cow per day(yeast; 4 PP and 8 MP). The feeds were given from 15 days prepartum to 180 days postpartum. Feed intake, body weight, and milk yields(MY) were recorded, and milk and blood samples were collected for analyses. Feces were collected from days 45 to 47 during early lactation and from days 90 to92 during mid-lactation to determine apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM), organic matter(OM),crude protein(CP) and crude fiber(CF). Energy corrected milk yield(ECM), feed conversion, and energy and nitrogen conversion efficiency were calculated. Yeast treated MP buffaloes consumed more DM(P han the untreated control group. Apparent digestibility of DM and OM were significantly greater at mid-lactation for treated versus control group(P = 0.001). Crude fiber digestibility was greater in MP than in PP buffaloes(P = 0.049), and yeast supplemented MP cows had a greater CF digestibility than control MP buffaloes at mid-lactation(P = 0.010). Total blood lipids decreased after yeast supplementation(P= 0.029). Milk yields, ECM, fat and protein yields increased for yeast treated MP buffaloes(P he study concluded that the response to yeast supplementation in buffalo cows is parity dependent. Multiparous buffaloes respond to yeast supplementation with an increased DM intake and CF digestibility without significant weight gains, allowing a greater ECM yield with less fat mobilization. Infection with Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) emerged in 2012 as an important respiratory disease with high fatality rates of 40%—60%. Despite the increased number of cases over subsequent years, the number of pediatric cases remained low. A review of studies conducted from June 2012 to April 19, 2016 reported 31 pediatric MERS-CoV cases. In this paper, we present the clinical and laboratory features of seven patients with pediatric MERS. Five patients had no underlying medical illnesses, and three patients were asymptomatic. Of the seven cases, four (57%) patients sought medical advice within 1-7 days from the onset of symptoms. The three other patients (43%) were asymptomatic and were in contact with patients with confirmed diagnosis of MERS-CoV. The most common presenting symptoms were fever (57%), cough (14%), shortness of breath (14%), vomiting (28%), and diarrhea (28%). Two (28.6%) patients had platelet counts of had an underlying end-stage renal disease. The remaining patients presented with normal blood count, liver function, and urea and creatinine levels. The documented MERS-CoV Ct values were 32 38 for four of the seven cases. Two patients (28.6%) had abnormal chest radiographic findings of bilateral infiltration. One patient (14.3%) required ventilator support, and two patients (28.6%) required oxygen supplementation. All the seven patients were discharged without complications.

The potential of the visible infrared(Vis–IR)(400–1100 nm)transmittance method to assess the internal quality(freshness)of intact chicken egg during storage at a temperature of 30±7C and 25±4%relative humidity was *** hundred chicken egg samples were used for measuring freshness and spectra collection during egg storage(up to 25 days).Two correlation models,firstly between haugh unit(hU)and storage time,and secondly between the yolk coefficient(YC)and storage time,were developed and yielded correlation coefficients(R^2)of 0.86 and 0.96,*** models spanned the period for which egg quality decreased dramatically and are statistically significant(Phe dimensionality of the spectra and extract effective wavelengths,two methods were developed based on principal component analysis(PCA)and a genetic algorithm(GA).The output of PCA and GA were also used comparatively to design an egg quality intelligent *** result of the analyses indicated that identification ratio of GAwith fast Fourier transform(FFT)preprocessing was superior to other methods,and that the quality classification rates of this method for one-day-old eggs are 100%.This study shows that identification of an egg’s freshness using NIR spectroscopy with GA and artificial neural network(ANN)is reliable.
