Introduction The hallmark of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the intrahepatocyte accumulation of lipids with or without necro-inflammatory changes and ballooning[i.e.,steatohepatitis or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASh)],fibrosis,cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(hCC),which is observed in dysmetabolic individuals in the absence of competing causes of chronic liver disease such as excess alcohol consumption,viral infections,autoimmune or hereditary conditions and steatogenic medications(1).NAFLD represents an example of lipotoxicity caused by ectopic lipid *** relatively modest amounts of ectopic lipid accumulation in normally lean organs(e.g.,liver,pancreas,heart,kidney and muscle)can trigger functional disturbance in the affected organs and a subsequent vicious circle of adverse metabolic consequences in predisposed individuals(1);this will eventually result in those hepatic and extra-hepatic manifestations and co-morbid conditions which are frequently observed in NAFLD *** this perspective,NAFLD should be viewed as one of the systemic manifestations and consequences resulting from lipid overflow.

Natural killer(NK)/T cell lymphoma includes two major subtypes of disease,specifically extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma,nasal type(ENKL)and aggressive NK cell leukemia(ANKL).Both are strongly associated with Epstein Barr virus and are prevalent in East Asia and Latin *** for that of limited-stage ENKL,the prognosis of both diseases was poor in the previous *** advent of non-anthracycline-based chemoradiotherapy has contributed to an improvement in ENKL prognosis,but there is still room for further treatment ***,the high efficacy of PD-1 antibody was reported in relapsed or refractory ENKL *** was later supported by the finding that PD-L1/PD-L2 genetic alterations are frequently observed in ENKL and ANKL *** to the rarity of the disease,a standard treatment for ANKL remains to be ***,allogeneic stem cell transplantation is the only curative treatment,and this is even applicable to chemo-resistant ANKL *** this review,we focus on recent treatment approaches for NK/T cell lymphomas including novel agents.

Effects of Au nanoparticle addition to hole transfer layer in organic solar cells based on copper naphthalocyanine and fullerene

Organic solar cells based on copper naphthalocyanine(CuNc) and fullerene(C60) were fabricated, and their photovoltaic properties were investigated. C60 and CuNc were used as n-type and p-type semiconductors, respectively. In addition, the effect of Au nanoparticle addition on a hole transfer layer was investigated, and the power conversion efficiency of the devices was improved after blending the Au nanoparticles into the hole transport layer. Nanostructures of Au nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Energy levels of molecules were calculated by molecular orbital calculations, and the nanostructure and electronic properties were discussed.& 2014 Chinese Materials Research Society. Activation of Trifluoromethylthio Moiety by Appending Iodonium Ylide under Copper Catalysis for Electrophilic Trifluoromethylation Reaction

A novel iodonium-ylide compound 2 that appends a trifluoromethylthio （SCF3） group is disclosed as a new, shelf-stable electrophilic trifluoromethylation reagent. Unlike known shelf-stable electrophilic trifluoromethylation reagents, 2 has a stable SCF3 group which is activated by appending iodonium ylide under copper catalysis via sul- fonium ylide to generate a cationic trifluoromethyl （CF3） species. Reagent 2 was found to be an efficient electro- philic trifluoromethylation reagent for a wide range of silyl enol ethers 3 under copper catalysis. Cyclic and acyclic a-trifiuoromethyl ketones 4 were obtained by reagent 2 in moderate to good yields. On the other hand, a difluoro- methylthio analogue 5 did not affect intermolecular transfer difluoromethylation to substrates. Instead, intramolecu- lar 1,4-migration proceeded similar to the Stevens rearrangement to provide 6 in 21% yield, independent of the presence of nucleophiles 3.

This study aimed to ascertain the current status of Japanese sperm banking for young cancer patients. During 2015, we mailed the directors of 695 institutes where sperm cryopreservation might be performed with questionnaires requesting information on the number of patients, age, precryopreservation chemotherapy, semen analyses results and diagnoses, cryopreservation success rate, and causes of unsuccessful cryopreservation. Of these 695 institutes, 92 had cryopreserved sperm before chemotherapy within the study period. In all, 820 cancer patients （237 testicular, 383 hematological, 46 bone and soft tissue, 20 brain, and 134 other malignancy） consulted the responding institutes for sperm cryopreservation. Except for testicular tumor, the number of patients whose sperm was preserved before cancer treatment was low compared to that of young cancer patients. Approximately 20% of patients with malignancies other than testicular tumor underwent chemotherapy before cryopreservation. The success rate of cryopreservation in hematological malignancy was 82.5%, significantly lower than that of both the testicular cancer （93.6%） and other malignancy groups （95.6%）（P 〈 0.05）. The primary reasons for preservation failure were azoospermia and poor semen quality. Patients with hematological malignancies had a higher rate of unsuccessful cryopreservation compared to those in other groups, possibly due to the large number of patients requesting sperm cryopreservation after chemotherapy induction. In Japan, information regarding sperm banking prior to cancer treatment appears to be lacking. Information regarding sperm preservation before chemotherapy should be provided to all Japanese oncologists.

The preparation method of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) gels by a simple cast-drying technique using salt solutions was reported in the present *** effects of the salt concentration on the macro- and microscopic properties were examined in detail,and the relationships between macroscopic properties,such as swelling ratio,mechanical strength,and the network microstaicture were *** was found that the swelling ratio of PVA cast gel increased largely by adding a small amount of salt, and decreased rapidly,hereafter it increased with increasing the salt concentration above 2%(mass fraction).The changes in the breaking stress and strain corresponded to the changes in the swelling *** macroscopic properties were found to be correlated with the microcrystallites and hydrogen bonds,which were characterized by the measurements using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).

Induction of antitumor immunity against mouse carcinoma by baculovirus-infected dendritic cells

A dendritic cell(DC)vaccine strategy has been developed as a new cancer immunotherapy,but the goal of complete tumor eradication has not yet been *** have previously shown that baculoviruses potently infect DCs and induce antitumor immunity against hepatomas in a mouse ***-infected,bone marrow-derived DCs(BMDCs)display increased surface expression of costimulatory molecules,such as CD80,CD86 and major histocompatibility complex(MhC)classes I and II,and secrete interferons and other proinflammatory *** this study,we evaluated the induction of antitumor immunity in mice by baculovirus-infected BMDCs against lung cancer and *** treatment with baculovirus-infected BMDCs,murine lung tumors caused by Lewis lung carcinoma(LLC)cells were significantly reduced in size,and the survival of the mice was *** addition,experiments using a melanoma mouse model showed that baculovirus-infected BMDCs inhibited tumor growth and improved survival compared with *** alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and creatinine levels remained normal in baculovirus-infected BMDC-treated *** findings show that baculovirus-infected DCs induce antitumor immunity and pave the way for the use of this technique as an effective tool for DC immunotherapy against malignancies.
