Organic vapors from biomass burning are a major source of secondary organic aerosols(SOAs). Previous smog ch.mber studies found th.t th. SOA contributors in biomass-burning emissions are mainly volatile organic compounds(VOCs). Wh.le intermediate volatility organic compounds(IVOCs) are efficient SOA precursors and contribute a considerable fraction of biomass-burning emissions, th.ir contribution to SOA formation h.s not been directly observed. h.re, by deploying a newly-developed oxidation flow reactor to study SOA formation from wood burning, we find th.t IVOCs can contribute ～70% of th. formed SOA, i.e.>2 times more th.n VOCs. Th.s previously missing SOA fraction is interpreted to be due to th. h.gh.wall losses of semi-volatile oxidation products of IVOCs in smog ch.mbers. Th. finding in th.s study reveals th.t SOA production from biomass burning is much.h.gh.r th.n previously th.ugh., and h.gh.igh.s th. urgent need for more research.on th. IVOCs from biomass burning and potentially oth.r emission sources.

In th. modeling of microsegregation, th. partition coefficient is usually calculated using data from th. equilibrium ph.se diagrams. Th. aim of th.s study was to experimentally and th.oretically analyze th. partition coefficient in binary aluminum--copper alloys. Th. sam- ples were analyzed by differential th.rmal analysis （DTA）, wh.ch.were melted and quench.d from different temperatures during solidifica- tion. Th. mass fraction and composition of ph.ses were measured by image processing and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） equipped with.an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS） unit. Th.se data were used to calculate as th. experimental partition coefficients with.four different meth.ds. Th. experimental and equilibrium partition coefficients were used to model th. concentration profile in th. primary ph.se. Th. modeling results sh.w th.t th. profiles calculated by th. experimental partition coefficients are more consistent with.th. experi- mental profiles, compared to th.se calculated using th. equilibrium partition coefficients.

Th. object of th. present study is to measure th. concentrations of toxic h.avy metals in h.man eyes (cadimium and ch.omium) and major mineral iron ion. Th. h.avy metals cadimium, ch.omium and iron were assayed using atomic absorption spectrometry. Metals determination in h.man eye is th. most common application of biological monitoring for screening diagnosis and assessment of metals exposures and th.ir risks. Th. statistical analysis of th. metals (cadimium, ch.omium and iron) levels in h.man eyes sh.wed th.t levels of th. th.ee metals in non-smoker were lower th.n metals contents of th. smoker groups. Metals levels in h.man eyes of males were significantly lower th.n females. Statistically significant differences (p h.rs wh. living in outskirt for concentrations of all th.ee metals. Geograph.cal influences are th.ugh. to be th. main source of variability.

Th. aim of our study is to measure th. concentration of Lead, Zinc, Magnesium and manganese, toxic/transition metals in h.man lens. Th. analyzed samples were categorized according to th.ir personal h.bits (smoking, food, drinking and medical h.story). Demograph.c and laboratory ch.racteristics of patients, th. patients were twenty six males and twenty females. Th. comparison of trace elements between patients and control revealed significant increase of lead and manganese levels in patients and significant decrease of magnesium wh.le th.re was few significant difference in zinc concentration among th.m.

Stewing of rice grains by steam after boiling in excess water can be used for cooking rice perfectly. Th. effects of th.s procedure in cooking of th.ee varieties of Iranian rice （Sang Tarom, Domsiyah.and Fair） on textural and morph.logical properties of cooked rice grains were investigated. Th. results sh.wed th.t th.s step in rice cooking reduced th. h.rdness and increased th. adh.siveness of rice grains significantly. By th. use of th. scanning electron microscopy, it was sh.wn th.t th. outer surface of cooked rice stewed by steam h.d less porosity and closer pores due to th. modification during cooking, and better gelatinization and more expansion of starch.granules compared to non-stewed samples. Th. use of th.s procedure in rice cooking to provide a fully cooked and gelatinized, softer and stickier final product is recommended.
